Mark Chmura Hits The Links For Kids
posted 7/15/99
 |
| NFL Pro Bowlers Mark Chmura, Steve Young, Doug Flutie, Dermontti Dawson and Randall Cunningham pose with honorary caddy Marcus Antonio Johnson. |
Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura and 11 other NFL Pro Bowlers tee it up to raise money for hospitalized kids in a made-for-television golf shootout airing Sunday, July 18 at 1:30 pm CDT on ESPN.
From Ko Olina Golf Club on Hawaii's scenic Oahu island, the Ace Hardware NFL Charities Golf Shootout will feature some of the NFL's greatest players having fun on the course while they battle it out for charity. The $75,000 in prize money will go to help kids treated at Children's Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals.
Chmura will be paired with one of three four-man teams competing in six fun golf-skill events: the GE Lightning Long Drive, the Weber Greenside Bunker, the Intermatic Short Iron, the Reliance Water Heaters Trouble Shot, the Vermont American Pitch Shot and the Duracell Putting Contest. The winners of Duracell's Putt for Kids competition will have an additional $50,000 donated in their names to a CMN-affiliated children's hospital.
Serving as honorary caddies for Chmura and the other players will be kids who are former patients of CMN hospitals. The 170 non-profit hospitals affiliated with CMN care for all children with any affliction, including cancer, pediatric AIDS, birth defects, injuries, and muscular and cardiovascular diseases. These hospitals, including Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, pride themselves on providing care regardless of a family's ability to pay.
