Brett Favre Forward Foundation Announces $100,000 Donation to Mississippi Charities

The Brett Favre Forward Foundation is pleased to announce its 1999 Celebrity Golf Tournament charity donations of $100,000. The Brett Favre Forward Foundation was established in 1996 to support charitable organizations whose focus is to provide aid for disadvantaged or suffering children who reside in Mississippi or Wisconsin.
The monies have been distributed to six worthy organizations in Mississippi. (listed below)
This year's donation brings the Foundation's four-year charity total to $395,000. The Brett Favre Forward Foundation is a 501 ( C ) 3 and all net proceeds raised from each year's tournament activities benefit Mississippi charities.
"This is certainly a reward for me to be able to contribute money to the many worthwhile charities; which will benefit the children of Mississippi," said Brett Favre, quarterback, Green Bay Packers. "I am blessed for the opportunity to give back to the state of Mississippi and the communities that have supported me for years."
"The Brett Favre Forward Foundation is appreciative for the corporate support that allows us to distribute the funds generated for the state of Mississippi's worthwhile charity organizations", said Eric Wooten, attorney and Brett Favre Forward Foundation Board of Directors member. "We are all very excited about this contribution and look forward to continuing to make many more donations through the Brett Favre Forward Foundation."
The Brett Favre Forward Foundation has donated $395,000 to Mississippi charities in the short existence. The Brett Favre Forward Foundation annual donations are as follows: 1996 - $70,000, 1997-$90,000, 1998 - $120,000 and 1999- $100,000. The benefiting charities are selected by the Brett Favre Forward Foundation Board of Directors.

MHG Development Foundation: $10,000

1999 Brett Favre Forward Foundation Charities
Hope Haven Childrens Shelter
Hope Haven provides emergency shelter for abused and neglected children from across south Mississippi. It provides a home-like atmosphere, counseling and love to children who have been victims of physical and sexual abuse or severe neglect.
The MHG Development Foundation
The MHG Development Foundation was organized to assist Memorial Hospital with educational, scientific and charitable endeavors. We are also very much into promoting community wellness with our mobile clinic van and the establishment of ten ongoing school health clinics. Our main goal last year was to assist with the Pediatric Oncology Hematology Unit at Memorial.
Make-a-Wish Foundation
The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Mississippi is a non-profit organization that grants wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 18 years who have a terminal illness or life threatening condition that creates the probability that the child will not survive beyond their eighteenth birthday.
Mississippi Special Olympics
Special Olympics provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with mental retardation. This experience gives them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community. The Special Olympics oath is..."Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."
Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer
Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer is a non-profit support group dedicated to the financial, emotional and educational support of families of children with cancer. Our money directly benefits families in South Mississippi. Our funds and experience are used to help families overcome the varied traumas and expenses not covered by any insurance or other outside support. Our purpose is to alleviate the isolation many families feel at the time their child is diagnosed, to offer our love, caring, encouragement and understanding so that none need face alone the uncertain world of childhood cancer.
Gaits to Success
Gaits to Success is a therapeutic horsemanship center for disabled children. Gaits to Success serves all of South Mississippi and the Slidell, Louisiana area. They provide vital therapy that enables countless children with a variety of disabilities to strengthen weakened muscles, build self-confidence and work toward increased independence that may have only been a dream to them.
