The "Welcome Back Packer Luncheon" is a tradition of the Green Bay business community - a tradition which began in the 1960s under Coach Vince Lombardi.

At this luncheon, it has also been a tradition since 1978 to announce the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award Recipient. A Packers player or coach is selected annually by the Packer organization to receive this prestigious honor. Recent recipients include Adam Timmerman, John Jurkovic, Sean Jones, Aaron Taylor & Brett Favre.

Green Bay Packers long snapper Rob Davis was this year's recipient of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce's Community Service Award.

In presenting Rob Davis with his award, here is what the Chamber of Commerce had to say about him...

He is the first player ever from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania to play in the NFL. He is self-taught and self motivated as a deep snapper. On the team, he is making an impact - so much so he may see action on the punt and kickoff return teams this year.

The coaches say he is consistent, reliable and an important part of the game.

In addition to being a player who makes a difference, Rob is a true leader and role model off the field as well.

He speaks frequently in Green Bay area schools and community events. His message centers not just on football, but also on the theme "It's OK to be different as long as we respect others."

He and teammates Jonathan Brown and Matt Hasselback spent a week in Germany this past summer on a morale boosting tour with U.S. Army personnel stationed oversees. The trio gave clinics and spoke at schools on military bases.

Rob was also the keynote speaker for the Upper Midwest Anti Defamation League's "World of Difference - Unity Through Diversity" conference this past May.

He represented the NFL and the Green Bay Packers as a speaker at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Metcalf Park Community Center.

He has worked with Big Brothers / Big Sisters, counseled juvenile delinquents, and has participated in many charity events.

He doesn't seek publicity or notoriety from this participation - he does it because he believes in reaching out to others and giving back to the community where he lives.
