NFL AND ROOKIE OF THE YEAR SPONSOR, PROGRESSIVE, MAKE $1,000 DONATION TO WISCONSIN STATE PATROL IN PACKERS ROOKIE'S NAME

Progressive, the sponsor of the 1998/1999 Progressive Auto Insurance NFL Rookie of the Year Program, has made a donation to the Wisconsin State Patrol in Vonnie Holliday's name to honor him for being named the Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. Progressive is one of the largest auto insurers in the country and in the state of Wisconsin.
The check was accepted on behalf of the Wisconsin State Patrol by Officer Dwayne Meyers today at the Green Bay Packers news conference.
Holliday earned the coveted Rookie of the Month spot with his rookie-leading four sacks, 14 tackles, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
As sponsor of the program, Progressive has committed to making $1,000 donations to local law enforcement agencies in each Rookie of the Month's name throughout the season.
"Through donations to worthwhile programs on behalf of this year's outstanding NFL rookies, we are supporting programs that benefit people throughout the country, and right here in Wisconsin," said John Sauerland, Progressive General Manager, Wisconsin. "Vonnie Holliday and each of this year's outstanding Rookies of the Month can be proud of the contributions they are making -- on the field and off."
"We appreciate Vonnie's generosity to the Wisconsin State Patrol," said Meyers. "Vonnie's contribution will be used for the purchase of Simulation Model Automobile Collisions software, which helps us reconstruct accidents and solve some of the mysteries surrounding crashes. This will enable us to help the families of victims understand what happened."
Two Rookies of the Month (offensive and defensive) will be named in each of the four months of the NFL regular season. At the end of the season, Progressive, with the aid of a blue ribbon panel, will select an overall Progressive Auto Insurance Rookie of the Year to be announced during Super Bowl Week in South Florida.
