Nearly 100 golfers outlasted the rain Saturday, July 8, to play in the first William Henderson/Darren Sharper Charity Golf Tournament at the Olympic Resort and Spa in Oconomowoc, Wis.

Proceeds from the tournament will be given to a scholarship fund for the Parklawn YMCA in downtown Milwaukee. The Parklawn center is the nation's first-and only-YMCA to be built within an inner-city housing development project.

"The YMCA is a non-profit organization, but it is still more expensive than what some people in housing developments can afford," Henderson said. "So we try to set up a situation where some of those kids can benefit from the programs at the YMCA, and all of the proceeds went back to the YMCA to the scholarship fund."

Darryn Dewalt, an executive at DCT Sports marketing firm who represents both Henderson and Sharper, helped organize the event and emphasized making a difference for Parklawn's youth.

"We chose to help the Parklawn 'Y' because it is the first of its kind," Dewalt said. "This helps kids that don't have the benefit of two parents with good incomes to experience the kind of things the YMCA provides to so many others."

LeRoy Butler and Tyrone Williams were among the Packers personnel supporting their teammates' event, while Jamie Sharper, Darren's brother, who plays linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, also was present.
