Packers Host Northern Expedition for Tampa, St. Louis and Atlanta Children

Thirty children, ages 9-15, began a five-day winter excursion on Wednesday, coming from Tampa, St. Louis, Atlanta and locations in Wisconsin to see Lambeau Field and meet members of the Packers before moving on to go skiing, sledding and snowmobiling.
The "Circle of Friends Winter Week" brings together pediatric cancer patients from across the country. For the fourth straight year, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle and Wisconsin native Jerry Wunsch sponsored the event, helped this year by St. Louis Rams defensive end Grant Wistrom.
Wunsch and Wistrom gathered the youngsters for an introductory lunch at Green Bay's famous Kroll's West restaurant Wednesday afternoon, where Packers Head Coach and General Manager Mike Sherman welcomed the group to town.
From there, they headed across the street for a tour of Lambeau Field and the Packers' facilities. In the team's locker room, they met several members of the Packers, including Ahman Green, Bill Schroeder, Corey Bradford and Steve Warren.
For the children, the week provides an important, joyful getaway from their difficult routine of battling cancer.
The group began their outdoor activities on Thursday, traveling west for a day of skiing in Wausau, Wisconsin, Wunsch's hometown and location of the remainder of the week's events.
Sherman gave high praise Wednesday to Wunsch, of whom the coach says the state can be extremely proud.
"This is a great thing Jerry does every single year," the coach said of the former University of Wisconsin Badger. "Even though he's not a Packer, he's a Wisconsin native, and I think it's indicative of the spirit the people in Wisconsin have. Jerry's a special guy. He's done this and will continue to do this, I'm sure, for a long time."
