Christmas In May
posted 05/30/01
 |
| Teamed with the Green Bay Area Christmas in May Foundation, the Green Bay Packers helped repair the home of a local Packer fan. |
Continuing their long-standing efforts to give back to the community whenever possible, the Green Bay Packers recently teamed up with the greater Green Bay Area Christmas in May Foundation for the sixth consecutive year to spend a weekend repairing and refurbishing the home of a local Packers fan in need.
Representatives from Christmas in May commissioned 23 corporate organizations in the Green Bay area, including the Packers, to pledge their financial support as well as donate building supplies for the projects.
Christmas in May is the local version of the national program "Christmas in April." Through the program, volunteers repair and refurbish homes of low-income and elderly homeowners who are unable to maintain their homes.
Around 40 Packers volunteers, including helpers from Andy's Roofing and Sheet Metal Company in Green Bay, worked on the home of an elderly, local fan on Green Bay's west side (May 16 -18).
Together the group completed the following improvements to the home; removed old shingles and re-roofed the home and garage; removed existing gutters and installed new gutters, replaced the storm windows; repaired the garage exterior and interior; scraped, primed, and painted the garage; built a railing for the front ramp; planted flowers; pulled weeds, and mowed the lawn.
In the Green Bay area, a total of 16 homes were refurbished the week of May 16th.
