The Green Bay/Brown Country Professional Football Stadium District Board toured Lambeau Field Wednesday (June 27) for an update on the construction progress. Project manager Stu Zadra guided the tour, explaining the levels of progress for each separate portion of the stadium construction, currently in Phase One of a three-part process.
The first point of notice was in the south end zone area of the seating bowl. The construction of the new field tunnel is underway. The area underneath the stadium was excavated and a section of seats has been removed. The tunnel will be covered back up with planking to install bowl seating back in this section for the upcoming season. "The seating will be back in place in time for the Family Night scrimmage," said Zadra.
On the west side of the stadium the construction efforts are actually ahead of schedule. The foundation for the new press box has been installed. Two cranes have been assembled to await the delivery of steel, which is expected to arrive by the end of next week.
Steel already has arrived for work on the eastern side of the stadium where the Titletown atrium entrance is being erected. Soon both the steel bracing and concrete foundation will be visible from Lombardi Avenue. The first steel brace was installed Wednesday in the section of the building that eventually will house the media auditorium.
The sub level of the Titletown entrance is also under construction. The first foundation for the "wet" area that will eventually house the player showers and training pool has been poured.
Zadra noted that so far the progress of the construction has been on course. The construction team is currently reviewing its proposed electrical, food service and heating contracts. The purpose of this is to double-check everything to make sure construction runs as smooth as possible.
