In a tradition continuing back almost 20 years, the Green Bay Packers welcomed area high school football teams competing for state championships this week to use the team's practice facilities. Four area teams are using the Don Hutson Center to conduct practice in preparation for their title games.
On Tuesday, Hilbert High School made use of the state-of-the-art indoor practice facility in preparation for its Division Six title match-up with undefeated Spring Valley. Possessors of a perfect record themselves, the Wolves square off with the Cardinals at Camp Randall Stadium at 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
On Wednesday afternoon Fox Valley Lutheran practiced at the Hutson Center. FVL will battle undefeated Lancaster for the Division Three state championship at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Foxes are making their first-ever WIAA state final appearance. The Warriors will be making their second appearance at Camp Randall in three years after claiming the 1999 state title.
Later Wednesday night Kewaunee held its final practice in preparation for Thursday's championship showdown with Lancaster. The Indians are also making their first-ever appearance in the WIAA state title game. Meanwhile the Flying Arrows of Lancaster have won 27 straight games including the 2000 state title. This Division Four match-up is scheduled for 4 p.m.
On Thursday afternoon, the Ashwaubenon Jaguars will be the final team to grace the Hutson Center practice field before heading off to fight for the Division Two state championship. He Jaguars are attempting to be the first team in almost a decade to win back-to-back state titles in Division Two after claiming the 2000 championship. Their match-up with 10-3 Catholic Memorial is scheduled for a 10 a.m. kickoff on Friday in Madison.
