| Equipment Manager Red Batty gives an equipment demonstration |
Thanks to a contest sponsored by Coca-Cola and E&J Gallo, over one hundred women from around the state of Wisconsin were selected to participate in the Football 101 clinic on Tuesday. Football 101 is designed as a way for women to have the opportunity to learn more about the game of football.
NFL statistics show that the male/female ratio watching NFL games is 60/40 and getting closer to 50/50 every year. The goal of the event is to provide the contest winners with up-close and personal insight from Packer players to develop more knowledge about the sport.
The itinerary included a complimentary hors d'oeuvre hour with beverages and wine tasting from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. Members of the Packers Women's Association conducted a question and answer session from 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm. The football clinic featured four players running different stations, equipment manager Red Batty demonstrating the various equipment used in the game and training staff member Jay Phillips demonstrating how to tape wrists, ankles, etc.
The following wives participated in the Q&A:
Stephanie Nowinsky (significant other of Bill Ferrario)
Mary Flanagan (wife of Jim Flanagan)
Rhodesia Butler (wife of LeRoy Butler)
Bethany Bidwell (wife of Josh Bidwell)
Lisa Brandt (wife of Andrew Brandt ‚ Dir. of Player Finance/General Counsel)
Mia Herock (wife of Shaun Herock ‚ Assistant Dir. of College Scouting)
Monique Dotson (wife of Santana Dotson)
Yvette Sherman (wife of Ray Sherman - WR Coach)
Sarah Longwell (wife of Ryan Longwell)
The most common type of question asked was regarding what it was like being married to a football player. The wives really stressed that they have normal lives with the guys bringing out the garbage and the kids running around the house.
Players taking part in the clinic were LeRoy Butler, Bill Ferrario, Jim Flanagan and Josh Bidwell.
