Like Mark Tauscher and Tod McBride have done this season, Barry Stokes visited an elementary school Tuesday to read to the students. Stokes visited with students from Heritage School in East De Pere to present them with a special honor. The offensive lineman, on behalf of the Green Bay Packers and Coca-Cola Bottling, presented Heritage with a 200-book classroom library from Scholastic Publishing.

The goal of the program is to encourage reading and education by providing students with books. Stokes sat down and read two books to 650 students ranging from kindergarten through fourth-grade.

After reading the stories, Stokes had a question and answer session with the students. He also engaged in a friendly competition with the vice principal and selected students that was billed as an 'exercise of the mind.' The contest eventually included physical exercise as well when the students challenged Stokes to a push-up contest with their principal.

The point Stokes emphasized to his audience was to keep working hard in school. The lineman has just gone back to school to finish his college degree and shared his personal experience with the students.
