With their day off, a couple of Green Bay players took time out to spend with area students. Chris Gall visited an elementary school Tuesday to read to the students while Antonio Freeman visited three area schools as part of his B MOR FREE Program.
Gall visited with students from Martin School in East Green Bay to present them with a special honor. The fullback, on behalf of the Green Bay Packers and Coca-Cola Bottling, presented Martin with a 200-book classroom library from Scholastic Publishing.
The goal of the program is to encourage reading and education by providing students with books. Gall sat down and read for two different groups of students with the kindergarten, first- and second-grade classes hearing him read Mr. Willaby's Christmas Tree. He read Rotten Teeth to the third- and fourth grade students.
After reading the stories, Gall had a question and answer session with the students. He spoke to them about the importance of reading told them he reads every night. Gall also encouraged each of them to go to the library and take a book out today.
As part of the B MOR FREE Program, Freeman addressed students at Lombardi Middle School, Franklin Middle School and Oneida Tribal School in the Green Bay area.
The B MOR FREE Program is for children grades 6 through 12, promoting self-growth and self-acceptance. It is a mentoring Program designed to give back to the heart and soul of the Wisconsin community - the youth. It encourages being FREE, (Facing Real-Challenges and Exemplifying Excellence); and that means being free to grow, free to learn from the past, free to make the right decisions, and free to turn negatives into positives thus progressing forward.
An essay contest was also part of the program for students at the participating schools. The winners from the schools visited today will have the opportunity to attend the next home game at Lambeau Field versus the Cleveland Browns. Overall, 54 essay winners will be selected from the six schools participating in the program.
