Wanda Boggs Named Fifth Honoree For Packer FAN Hall Of Fame

Wanda Boggs, a third-grade teacher from Brookfield, Wisconsin, enthusiastically described by her class as "the greatest fan in the whole history of football," has been named as the fifth annual honoree to the Packer FAN Hall of Fame.

In the process, her pupils' testimonial helped her make history, Mrs. Boggs becoming the first woman to be so honored in the five years the FAN Hall of Fame has been in existence.

Her nomination was heartily endorsed in an accompanying essay by her pupils at Brookfield Elementary School, who asserted, "G is for graph. Mrs. Boggs can hardly wait to pull out her graph each Monday morning. She goes crazy when the Packers' side is higher. She goes 'kaplooey' if their opponents' side is higher. She is a Packer maniac.

"O is for obsessed with the Packers. Mrs. Boggs is so obsessed she has green all around her. She has a Packers flag in her classroom and Packers stickers on her door.

Fans To Enjoy New Scoreboards At Renovated Lambeau Field

Starting with the first game of the 2003 Green Bay Packers season, Packers fans will enjoy new and vastly improved video display scoreboards.

"We believe fans will be excited with the state-of-the-art technology of these scoreboards," said Packers President Bob Harlan. "They will be a great complement to all of the other amenities and improvements being made to Lambeau."

The two new scoreboard structures are the same height as the existing scoreboard but twice the width, measuring approximately 41 feet high by 162 feet wide. One will be located in the north end zone and the other in the south end zone. The scoreboards are being developed by Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq - DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, which has extensive experience in large-screen, full color LED displays for professional sports venues.

Each scoreboard structure will feature:
* A ProStar(r) video display measuring 27 feet high by 48 feet wide

Packers Fans Help Campbell's Fight Hunger

The results are in and Packers fans contributed to Campbell's Tackling Hunger campaign in astounding fashion.

As part of its Click for Cans promotion, Campbell's displayed the helmets of all 32 NFL teams on its official website, asking football fans to click on the helmet of their favorite team. In return, Campbell's agreed to donate to local food banks across the nation one can of Campbell's Chunky soup for every click.

By that measure, Packers fans were responsible for the donation of 896,762 cans of soup, nearly double the 479,087 clicks and cans earned in the name of the first runner-up Buffalo Bills, with the Minnesota Vikings coming in third at 402,452.

In all, 5 million cans of soup are to be donated over the next year to a variety of hunger relief charities nationwide.

The Green Bay Packers and Campbell's thank you for your efforts.

Packers Team With Hormel Foods To Help Feed Green Bay's Hungry

Santa Claus isn't the only one in the giving mood this time of year.

Tuesday, Packers safety Matt Bowen, guard Bill Ferrario and defensive end Aaron Kampman distributed food to those less fortunate at Paul's Pantry in Green Bay.

Among the items distributed were 468 Hormel Cure 81 hams, worth over $4,200 from local grocers Piggly Wiggly, Dick's Supermarket and Fresh Brands.

"We're blessed so much with such good lives, it's nice to be able to do what we can for the community," Ferrario said. "Especially here in Green Bay, playing for a team that has such a great history with the community. It makes it very special, especially around the holidays."

The players' efforts were in conjunction with the Hormel Hams for Hunger program, which allows participating grocery stores nationwide to earn 'points' on select product sales between Sept. 29 and Dec. 28.

The points translate into certificates for Hormel Cure 81 hams, which are then donated to h..

Packers' Furniture On The Move To St. Vincent De Paul & Salvation Army

Moving trucks were rolling again today at Lambeau Field; only this time it wasn't the administration and football operations moving into new quarters. This was the first of more than 500 pieces of office furniture items being donated to St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army in Green Bay. The items are no longer needed as a result of the Packers move from their previous administration facility into the new Titeltown Atrium at Lambeau Field. The Atrium is part of the $295 million renovation and expansion of Lambeau Field.

"The Packers, the Green Bay Area Professional Football Stadium District and the City of Green Bay believe this is a good way to use some of the items that are no longer needed by the Packers, and benefit two local organizations and their clients at the same time," said Packers President Bob Harlan. "We're pleased to be able to help these two organizations - especially during the holiday season.
Bowen Visits Lineville Middle School

In his third NFL season, Packers safety Matt Bowen has yet to return a fumble or interception for a touchdown. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't like to.

Tuesday, Bowen addressed students at Lineville Middle School and challenged them to follow their dreams, just like he followed his to the NFL. Just like he continues to dream, about a chance to make a pick and take it the distance.

"Whether you want to be a doctor or a teacher, whatever you want to be, you should go for it," Bowen told the student audience.

Bowen spent almost 45 minutes addressing the gym full of youngsters, talking often about the importance of teamwork, honesty and respect for others.

But in the end, many students were still imagining what the realization of his dreams might look like.

"Would you show us your touchdown dance?" one student asked, her classmates pleading their support.

Bowen smiled, politely declined, and then was saved by the bell before he co..

Tyloch Named Winner Of Packers Community Quarterback Award

Tuesday, 11 years of hard work paid off for Troy Tyloch.

Named the winner of the Community Quarterback Award, Tyloch accepted a $10,000 check from the Green Bay Packers on behalf of the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. He also became eligible to receive the NFL's national Community Quarterback Award, which includes a $25,000 grant.

Tyloch, who himself is HIV-positive, has dedicated over 10,000 hours of volunteer time to the ARCW, helping more than 200 infected people cope with the ramifications of the HIV disease.

"Overwhelmed" and "honored" to win the award, Tyloch said it delivered an important message about living with HIV and AIDS.

"Having AIDS is not the end of the world," he said. "A life continues, even though it's harder. It doesn't mean it stops.

"I believe people with AIDS need to work harder, to try to find the good with the bad. It is there. It may not be what they think or what they expect, but it will appear."

Fisher Spends Day Off Reading To Kids

Two days after he was thrown at the Bears in place of injured starter Ahman Green, rookie running back Tony Fisher was thrown to the lions.

Tuesday, the soft-spoken 23-year-old -- who picked up 91 yards rushing in the Packers' ninth win of the season Sunday -- showed his daring by spending his day off reading to elementary school students at Forest Glen in Howard, and St. Matthew's in Allouez.

Fisher's readings were in conjunction with the Reading Is Fundamental program, which teamed up with Coca-Cola to see that the entire student body at both schools received a book in addition to the visit.

To second-graders and younger, Fisher read selected adventures of Clifford the Big Red Dog. To the older students he read, "Oh, How I Wished I Could Read," by John Gile.

Fisher also answered questions for the youngsters, in the process revealing his favorite food (Mom's macaroni and cheese) and favorite color (red).

Franks Rings In $2,000 For Salvation Army

The bell seemed especially small in the hand of 6-foot-6 tight end Bubba Franks, but it rang in tremendous donations for charity.

Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m., Franks rang a bell at the Bay Park Square Mall in Green Bay, to encourage donations to the Salvation Army. While he greeted Packers fans, posing for pictures and signing autographs, they filled his donations kettle with $1,771.52 in contributions.

At one point during the hour, Franks spoke via cellphone to Minnesota Vikings tight end Byron Chamberlain. Chamberlain was at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, challenging Franks in a good-spirited 'kettle contest.'

In his hour of bell-ringing, Chamberlain brought in $363.

Even after the contest expired, Franks generously remained at his post. His extra hour of bell-ringing generated an additional $174.20.

Meanwhile, the Salvation Army received $100 in individual pledges by telephone.

In the end, Franks had helped ring in $2..

Packers' Bubba Franks To Face Vikings' Byron Chamberlain Tuesday In Kettle Contest

Green Bay Packers tight end Bubba Franks will get a head start of sorts on this weekend's opponent when he faces off tomorrow against fellow Pro Bowl tight end Byron Chamberlain of the Minnesota Vikings in a Salvation Army kettle contest.

Franks will be in the food court at the Bay Park Square Mall on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 12-1 p.m., ringing the bell for the annual Salvation Army holiday fundraiser. Chamberlain, whom Franks befriended at last February's Pro Bowl, simultaneously will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at the Mall of America in suburban Minneapolis.

The match will determine who can raise the most money for the Salvation Army in one hour.

Packers fans are encouraged to assist Franks in raising money for the Salvation Army, in addition to topping whatever amount Chamberlain collects.

Kampman Delivers Reading At Pulaski Middle School

For one day, the library at Pulaski Middle School was turned into a coffeehouse. Or, at least, a hot-chocolate house.

The guest speaker Tuesday morning was Packers rookie defensive end Aaron Kampman, who rocked in his chair as he read a few short stories to students spread out across the floor in front of him.

One of the stories offered a message dear to Kampman's heart.

It told of President Abraham Lincoln listening to an impassioned Sunday sermon, only to walk away unfulfilled because the sermon hadn't asked anything of the congregation.

After reading the tale, Kampman talked with the young students about goals, both short- and long-term, and working to meet those goals.

With the Thanksgiving break approaching, he challenged the students to spend some time thinking about what they wanted to achieve in life. He also suggested that they write their goals down on paper, to serve as a constant reminder.

Last month, Packers fans were asked to nominate themselves or a friend for the honor with an essay of 500 words or less, accompanied by a photo, telling why they should be recognized. From those nominations <a href="http://www.mkemarketplace.com/fanhof/nominees.asp"target="new"> 10 finalists were selected by the Packers FAN Hall of Fame selection committee, comprised of members of the Packers front office and the Packer Hall of Fame Board of Directors.
Now it's once again up to the fans, who can <a href="http://www.mkemarketplace.com/fanhof/nominees.asp"target="new"> read the finalists' profiles and vote online.
Tauscher Participates In NFL High School Tuesday

Seated by class inside the school gymnasium, students in Valders, Wis., listened attentively as a 6-foot-4, 320-pound offensive tackle from the Green Bay Packers delivered a message that was short and sweet.

It was NFL High School Tuesday, the annual event in which one high school in every NFL city or surrounding area enjoys a visit from an NFL player. By logging on to NFLHS.com, the NFL's official high school football website, students at Valders High earned the chance to meet the Packers' Mark Tauscher.

Himself a graduate of Wisconsin's Auburndale High, Tauscher told the story of his journey from high school student-athlete, to two-time Rose Bowl champion with the University of Wisconsin, to third-year NFL veteran with the Packers.

It was a journey Tauscher successfully navigated by having the courage to pursue his dreams.

"It's not that I worked harder than everybody else -- everybody works hard," Tauscher told the students. "There are just so..

Packers Serve Lunch, Smiles

The Packers didn't hold practice Tuesday, but that didn't keep Andy Eby from taking a few hits.

In fact, on a chilly autumn morning, sweat poured down Eby's face like it was the middle of training camp. But it wasn't football Eby was playing at Holy Family School in Green Bay, it was a more simplistic game, appropriately titled, "I Have The Ball, And You Can't Get It."

On another area of the blacktop, Marco Rivera tossed passes to a gaggle of young girls with the giggles, Ryan Longwell booted footballs to eager return men, and Javon Walker quarterbacked a game of two-hand touch.

Inside, several of their teammates served lunch.

Craig Nall passed out cartons of milk. Ahman Green and Paris Lenon divvyed out buns. Aaron Kampman tried to hand out hotdogs, but struggled to keep up with Cletidus Hunt, who was offering bratwurst.

Search Underway For Fifth Packer FAN Hall Of Fame Honoree

Online Nomination Form

The Green Bay Packers, the first professional football team to have its own hall of fame, enhanced that distinction in 1998 by establishing a Packer FAN Hall of Fame.

It was founded, in conjunction with the Packer Hall of Fame, for the purpose of annually honoring a devout and longtime Packers fan.

As has been the case each of the past four years, fans have been asked to nominate themselves for recognition by a selection committee. The late Mel Knoke of Appleton was chosen as the inaugural enshrinee in the FAN Hall of Fame. The 91-year-old Knoke, who died between the time of his election and enshrinement, was honored posthumously at the 1999 Packer Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, held March 6.

Louis Gardipee of Black River Falls, Wis., Ed Jablonski of Wausau, Wis. and Paul Mazzoleni of Green Bay were the second, third and fourth honorees, respectively.

Current, Former Packers Hit Links For Charity

Blue skies welcomed several current and former Packers players to the magnificent Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis., for the third-annual Green Bay Packers Golf Invitational, Tuesday.

Among those to hit the links were Brett Favre and Darren Sharper, whose charities -- the Brett Favre Forward Foundation and the Sharper Kids Foundation, respectively -- benefited from the 18-hole charity event.

"It's a great cause, a great day," Sharper said. "It just makes you want to come out here and enjoy yourself."

Other current Packers to tee it up were Ryan Longwell, Josh Bidwell, Donald Driver, Marco Rivera, Nate Wayne and Frank Winters. Former players Fuzzy Thurston, Larry McCarren, Johnnie Gray, Bryce Paup and Don Beebe, were also in attendance.

Longwell Meets Circus Star

Six-foot tall, 199 pounds, Ryan Longwell has rarely been accused of being the most physically intimating specimen on the Packers practice field. He's a kicker. It's his lot in life.

But things got a whole lot worse for him Friday at Ray Nitschke Field when his fellow Packers were replaced by one whopping pachyderm.

Bo, a 10,000-pound Asian elephant on tour with the Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus, stopped by Nitschke Field after Friday's practice to showcase his amazing football talents, which include both kicking and throwing a football.

Although the 14-year-old Bo threw picture-perfect spirals with his trunk, his kickoffs left something to be desired, dribbling only a few feet. Still, kicker-to-kicker, Longwell saw some special teams potential for the animal-athlete dubbed the "world's smartest elephant."

"I can't imagine many guys would actually rush his kicks because they'd be scared of the implications," Longwell joked. "I'm sure..

Ladysmith's Stewart Named Green Bay Packers High School Coach Of The Week

Bruce Stewart, head coach of the Ladysmith High School Lumberjacks, has been selected as the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the Packers announced Friday.

Currently serving his 30th year as a football coach, Stewart has coached his 38 men to a 2-0 start this season with wins over Park Falls (39-0) and Gilman (29-8) with their first conference game coming this Friday. Last year the 'Jacks finished the year 9-1.

Born and raised in Ladysmith, Stewart graduated in 1966 as a three-sport letterman in basketball, football, and baseball. He continued on to UW La Crosse, where he played four years of baseball and two years of football during his collegiate tenure. He graduated in 1970 and spent one year as an assistant coach at UW La Crosse, before becoming the head football coach at Spencer (Wis.) High.
Packers Remember 9-11

There were no stirring speeches or grand remembrances, but there were a few tears Wednesday morning as Packers employees paid silent tribute to those who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Lined up outside Lambeau Field's new Titletown Atrium, Packers employees watched the raising of a United States flag that had flown over the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center. The flag had been presented to the Packers by representatives of the New York City Fire Department prior to the August 30 preseason contest against the Tennessee Titans.

While the Packers normally fly four flags daily at 1265 Lombardi Ave. -- U.S. flag, State of Wisconsin flag and a pair of Packers flags -- only the U.S. flag was raised Wednesday.

"It's obviously a very emotional day around the country and I think we're very honored to have this flag," said Bob Harlan, Packers President/CEO. "It meant a lot to me that the firemen would come and deliver this and allow us to fly..

Packers To Pay Special Tribute To 9-11 Victims On Anniversary Of Tragedy

The Green Bay Packers next week will pay tribute to the victims of the World Trade Center tragedy in a special way, President Bob Harlan announced Thursday.

"Shortly before last Friday night's home game against Tennessee, representatives of the New York City Fire Department presented us with an American Flag that was used in the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center," Harlan said. "They said they were giving the flag to Green Bay because the city was so supportive of them during the rescue efforts.

"We, in turn, have decided to display the flag at Lambeau Field in memory of all those who lost their lives in that horrific attack. On Wednesday, the anniversary of 9-11, we are going to take down the four flags we normally fly in front of the stadium's Atrium area - the American flag, the State of Wisconsin flag and two Packers flags - and replace them for the day with the flag from the New York City Fire Department - to pay meaningful tribute to the victims and th..

Packers Partnership Continues With 5 Area Health Care Providers

The Packers are entering the second year of a multi-year agreement with Bellin Health, St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center, St. Vincent Hospital, Prevea and Touchpoint Health Plan. In recognizing this continued partnership, the team unveiled a new billboard campaign on the side of the Don Hutson Center, the Packers official training facility.

"When people think of championships and high standards in the NFL they think of the Green Bay Packers. When people think of outstanding health care and high standards in the field of medicine, they think of our health care partners," Bob Harlan, Packers president and chief executive officer, said.

George Kerwin, president and CEO of Bellin Health, noted that all six partners have a common purpose and identity.

Packers, Coca-Cola Spread Team Spirit

As the Green Bay Packers and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Wisconsin announced a five-year partnership Tuesday, both organizations spread the team spirit to youngsters from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Bay and Appleton, holding a flag-football game at Clarke Hinkle Field.

Former Packers linebacker Brian Noble played quarterback for each team, while John Jones, Packers Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, acted as both coach and motivator.

Jones said the football game provided an illustration of the importance of teamwork, the same teamwork that the Packers and Coca-Cola hope to employ to ensure that visitors of Lambeau Field receive the ultimate fan experience.

Before taking to the field, Noble echoed Jones' remarks, telling the youngsters, "When I was a Packer, I got to learn what tradition is all about, what community is all about."

Packers Lend Weight To Fight Against Hunger

It might not have looked like it from afar, but Packers players Gilbert Brown and William Henderson had charity in mind when they sat atop the handle-end of a giant soupspoon scale in the northeast parking lot of Lambeau Field Tuesday morning.

Taking part in the 'Campbell's Chunky/NFL Tackling Hunger' program, Brown and Henderson had their weight measured in cans of Campbell's Chunky soup. Campbell then made a donation of 10-times the players' combined weight in cans to Paul's Pantry of Green Bay, a local food bank.

With this summer's record by an NFL player standing at 34 cases, Brown shifted the scales at 30 cases of soup, which made for a nice donation and also for a little peace of mind concerning his playing weight.

"Anytime you can help out in any way, it's a good thing," Brown said. "I don't want to get (any) record in this. That means I'm weighing too much and I'm not doing my job. I tried to put a couple things in my pockets so I could bring (m..

Green Bay Packers fans turned out by the hundreds, on a daily basis, for the Grand Opening Celebration of the new Packers Pro Shop. As a result, local charities were the big winners.

"We knew we would have a lot of people coming into the Pro Shop for the festivities, especially with training camp going on," said Kate Hogan, Senior Manager of Retail for the Green Bay Packers. "But even we were surprised by the fact that literally, every day, people were lined up outside the doors before we even opened." The Opening Celebration was held from Thursday, August 8 through Sunday, August 11, 2002.

As part of the festivities, fans received a 10% off coupon with each can of food they donated to Paul's Pantry or 20% off with each new or gently used coat they donated to the Salvation Army's Coats for Kids program. In addition, a raffle was held benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs, Cerebral Palsy and Special Olympics.

"The response was wonderful," said Hogan. "..

Wisconsin-Made Sauerkraut Earns Spot On Lambeau Field Starting Line-Up

Move over, mustard. Make way, pickles.

Sauerkraut is joining the starting line-up at Lambeau Field.

For the first time in the 45-year history of Lambeau Field, sauerkraut will officially become a part of the starting condiment line-up when Wisconsin-made Krrrrisp Kraut becomes "The Official Sauerkraut of Lambeau Field" this fall.

Manufactured by Great Lakes Kraut Company in nearby Bear Creek, Wis., the agreement represents a huge score for the world's largest sauerkraut manufacturer. As the exclusive kraut supplier for all Lambeau Field concessions and club seats for the next three years, all sauerkraut savored at the stadium will bear the Krrrrisp Kraut name.

That's a ton of kraut: It's estimated that if everyone who ordered either a hot dog or brat at Lambeau Field topped it with kraut, more than 26,000 pounds-or 13.3 tons-of the fermented cabbage would be consumed by Packers fans during the 2002 season alone.

Sherman Delivers Team Report At Stockholders' Meeting

In an event highlighted by GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman's team report, the Green Bay Packers organization conducted its annual Stockholders' Meeting in front of an audience of 2,211 at Brown County Arena, Tuesday morning.

In his nearly hour-long address, Sherman provided a detailed breakdown of how the team has changed over the offseason and where it's headed. While Packers.com has also provided audio of Sherman's entire address, below are some of the highlights.

**

Sherman said his chief offseason goal was to bring in more elite players and cited the acquisition of wide receiver Terry Glenn and defensive end Joe Johnson as major steps in that direction, also noting the recent additions of veteran linebacker Hardy Nickerson and punt returner Darrien Gordon.

Those additions aside, Sherman stressed that to be successful, the Packers will only be as strong as their weakest link.
The Green Bay Packers announced at a news conference in Green Bay Monday that the organization has entered into a long term, exclusive partnership agreement with Miller Brewing Company and its statewide distributors. The agreement will play an integral role in the new, 366,000 square foot, five story, Titletown Atrium at Lambeau Field.

Packers Donations Will Find Good Homes

Over the next month, as the Packers organization makes the short move from its current office space at Lambeau Field to the new east wing that is the Titletown Atrium, some 200 furniture items are expected to become unneeded by the organization, but they won't go unused.

Instead, the Packers will donate all unneeded furniture items to a pair of long-standing charity partners in St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army to benefit the greater Brown County/Green Bay area.

Salvation Army Major Robert Fay said the furniture -- mostly chairs, desks, filing cabinets, etc. -- will go a long way toward brightening the lives of underprivileged area residents.

"It may seem like little more than a collection of used furniture to most people, but for the Salvation Army and the people we serve, it really is an answer to prayer," Fay said.
"For many, many years, the Salvation Army has been turning furniture and appliances into food and shelter. It's not a mira..

Packers' Move To Benefit St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army

When the Green Bay Packers' administrative and football staffs move from the current administration building to the new Titletown Atrium offices this summer, the local community will benefit. That's because St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army of Green Bay will be given furnishings that are not going into the new facility. The groups will then distribute the furniture to their homeless shelters, provide it to the needy or, for items that cannot be used, sell them in their stores.

"The Packers, the Green Bay Area Professional Football Stadium District and the City of Green Bay believe this is a good way to recycle some of the items that are no longer needed, and benefit the needy at the same time," said Cathy Dworak, Packers Community Relations Manager.

Most of the existing furniture in the current administration building is being moved to the new offices. However, approximately 200 items, primarily tables, chairs, modular furnishings and cabinets will no ..

Internet Top-Ten Placement Displays Offseason Success

While the Green Bay Packers don't take to the football field until late July for the team's traditional training camp, the Packers claimed a small victory on the Internet Monday. The official Packer website, Packers.com, placed tenth with a rating of 164.0 in a study designed by Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal with the Graduate Sports Communications class at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

In the study that rated the 121 MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL team web sites during a six-week period (Apr. 1 - May 8, 2002), NFL teams finished as 9 of the 10 best, 17 of the top 20 and 29 of the 54 best sites. The winner was the second-youngest NFL team website, of the Cleveland Browns, with the Detroit Red Wings bringing up the rear for last place.

The ratings for each team were based on content, design/technical, commerce and interactivity, and each site was reviewed eight different times using the criteria developed by the research staff. The timeframe the websi..

Cathy Dworak, the organization's marketing sales coordinator for the past two years, has been named manager of community relations for the Green Bay Packers, Mark Schiefelbein, director of administrative affairs, announced today.

Ms. Dworak will assume her new duties next Monday, June 24.

"I am very excited to have Cathy on board," Schiefelbein said. "She has great communication and people skills. She grew up in the Green Bay area so she has an appreciation and understanding of the relationship between the community and the Packers.

"In addition, her experience in marketing and event planning will be a plus as we look to create community events in the Lambeau Field atrium in the future."

Local Restaurants Sought for Titletown Atrium

Lambeau Field Redevelopment project planners say they want to hear from the operators of area restaurants who may be interested in being a part of the Titletown atrium.

"There's been a lot of interest from a variety of local restaurants," said Amy Supple of Hammes Company, the Lambeau Field project manager. "There are a limited number of spaces available, including full service and concession uses. We're looking for experienced operators who will support the Hall of Fame, Packer Pro Shop, Packer Offices and visitors to the Titletown Atrium."

Titletown is the five-story atrium under construction on the east side of the stadium. The Packer Pro Shop and the offices of the Packers' administration and football operations will be occupied this summer. The remainder of Titletown, including the Packer Hall of Fame, will open in 2003.

Remembering His Youth

You look at Marco Rivera and the 6-4, 310-pound frame that has helped him play six NFL seasons, and it's easy to forget that the Packers offensive guard was ever little.

But Rivera hasn't forgotten his childhood. He can still remember when the NFL was but a dream. And it was in the spirit of those dreams that Rivera conducted his fourth youth mini-camp in his mother's native country of Puerto Rico last month.

"Every year I come back saying, 'Wow, can it get better than this year?'" Rivera said. "But this year was by far the best camp we've had so far."

The same event that produced 265 youngsters in 2001, registered 419 participants ages 10-16 this year.

More than about teaching the finer points of football, Rivera's camps look to stress the importance of an education, hard work, and discipline.

"It makes me feel good," Rivera said. "As players, we all remember what it was like when we were kids growing up and dreaming of playing in the..

Lambeau Key To Financial Growth

Despite improved financial performance in some categories, the Green Bay Packers dropped in National League Football revenue rankings for the fifth straight year. Corporation treasurer John Underwood said it was a clear indication that the team needs the Lambeau Field redevelopment more urgently than ever.

"What we found is that we had some improved performance in some categories, but at the same time we fell further behind everyone else," Underwood said. "The good news is I can look you in the eye and tell you that we're going to preserve this story, the greatest story in professional sports, for at least another generation, but we couldn't do it without the Lambeau Field redevelopment."

This week the franchise will distribute to Packers shareholders its annual report of the 2001-02 fiscal year, which ended March 31. The report will detail an operating profit of $3.2 million, up from a profit of $2.7 million last year and a $419,000 loss in 2000. The overall pe..

Good News For Some On The Packers' Season Ticket Waiting List

The Lambeau Field renovation project will add approximately 10,000 new seats at Lambeau and some of those seats, as many as 2,500, will be available this year. "We're pleased the construction project is going so well that additional seats will be available for this season," said Packers Ticket Director Mark Wagner.

Notices have gone out to approximately 800 people on the season ticket waiting list, which currently totals about 56,000. In keeping with the new policy on user fees for season ticket holders, all new ticket holders will be required to pay a one-time user fee of $1,400 per ticket for the Green Package and $600 per ticket for the Gold Package.

"The people who are now getting an opportunity to purchase tickets have been on the waiting list a long time." said Wagner. "We expect there to be some excited and happy fans."

Favre Softball Packs The House

Although run production was reduced significantly from a year ago, the 6,573 fans that filled Fox Cities Stadium still had a lot to cheer about Sunday as the Packers Defense defeated the Offense 24-14 in the third edition of the Brett Favre Celebrity Softball Game.

Unlike years past in which games have resembled home run derby, deeper fences and reduced-fly softballs held batters in check, so much so that Doug Pederson and Ahman Green were the only players to clear the yard. One Packer equated slamming the reduced-fly softballs to hitting "a bunch of socks wrapped in tape."

But even de-juiced softballs couldn't stop the Defense, which played small-ball, racking up 30 hits and benefiting from several errors by the Offense en route to the convincing win. Avenging last year's 32-31 loss, the Defense now leads the all-time series 2-1.

Leading the way for the 'D' were Ryan Longwell, who had a pair of singles and an inside-the-park home run, and Scott Frost, wh..

The Third Annual Brett Favre Celebrity Softball Game presented by Bergstrom Automotive will be on Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin. The game will begin at 1:00 pm. All proceeds will benefit the Brett Favre Forward Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to provide aid to disadvantaged or disabled children who reside in Wisconsin.
"I am very excited to be hosting this celebrity softball game again this year.
Pro Shop Receives 'Employer Of The Year' Award

From a program designed to reward the students, the Packers Pro Shop was recently rewarded itself when it was named 'Co-Op Employer of the Year' by Green Bay's Preble High School, based upon letters submitted by a pair of Preble students who worked for the Pro Shop as part of their co-op marketing course.

In their letters to the judging panel, Preble students Katie Kaehler and Michael Dobbertin both stressed that in their tenure with the Pro Shop they acquired skills that went beyond retail, customer service and other job-related areas, resulting in an even more valuable experience.

"Not only was it a great educational place to work, not only did I learn important skills which I will carry with me forever, but the Pro Shop provided a kind of family, a support system that I know will always be there," Kaehler wrote. "I really felt a part of the whole system, not just some employee, and I will truly miss the Pro Shop when I go off to school this fall."

Swinging For CF

Golf may not be his game of choice, but for at least one day a year, it's the sport Green Bay Packers GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman stamps his name on.

Monday, numerous Packers players, coaches and staff traded the office for the Oneida Country Club, where they took part in the Mike Sherman Celebrity Golf Tournament, which raises money to fight Cystic Fibrosis.

"The golf tournament was introduced long before I became the head coach," Sherman said. "I believe it dates back to Coach Lindy Infante's time and continues on now, and will continue on into the future."

In the United State alone, an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 children and adults live with symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes chronic lung and digestive disorders. More than 10 million Americans are thought to be unknown, symptom-less carriers of the gene that causes CF.

Three decades ago, the life expectancy of an individual with CF was only 8 years. Today, people with C..

'Tis The Season

On one side of the house, the old shingles were being removed. On the other, new roof paper was going down. And the freestanding garage -- just waiting for new shingles -- was already benefiting from a fresh coat of paint.

Dozens of workers crisscrossed the yard, with Packers trainer Pepper Burruss near the epicenter of the action. But this wasn't his house and he wasn't playing hooky. Instead, Burruss was among the numerous Packers employees teaming up with the greater Green Bay Area Christmas in May Foundation to refurbish a house in East Green Bay.

It's the seventh straight year the Packers have been associated with the local branch of Washington, D.C.'s Rebuilding Together program, which looks to help elderly, low-income families stay in their homes.

One of 21 local corporate sponsors, the Packers also lend to the more than 500 volunteers that will refurbish homes like this one in the Green Bay area this weekend. Some 80 volunteers will spend as ma..

Lambeau Construction On Schedule

The Lambeau Field renovation remains on schedule with construction meeting milestone dates after having to make up some time due to playoffs, construction spokesman Stu Zadra said Wednesday.

The total cost on the stadium is $295 million. "Construction costs are $700,000 per day," added Zadra during an hour and a half Wisconsin media tour. "By spending $15 million a month, you can really see the changes occurring quickly."

Since the last tour in January, the east and west area demolition work has been completed and all the rubble disposed. The north and south ends are part of the next phase of construction, which will begin during the summer after the team and administration move to the new offices.

In moving forward with the construction, the east concourse foundation is laid and concession areas have been pushed out into the new concourse. Some merchandise and concession areas will remain in the concourse inner ring. Zadra added that the depth of the walki..

Packer Help CP Center Establish New Telethon Record

Several Packers wives and staff were among 500-plus volunteers who worked to raise nearly $1 million at the Cerebral Palsy Telethon this weekend.

During the 48th annual telethon, Lisa Jagodzinski, Karen Washington, Tammy Bevell, Shari Donatell, Kris Rossley, Marian Beightol, Carol Slowik, Mary Pat Pelini, Yvette Sherman and Adriane Drayton took shifts answering phones, helping to collect $803,907, an event record. The telethon raised $760,000 in 2001.

Dee Geurts-Bengtson, the team's director of special events, also took calls at the event. She serves on the Cerebral Palsy board of directors, working to raise awareness of the disease. Packers kicker Ryan Longwell and his wife, Sarah, are the honorary chairpeople for the CP center, which services Northeastern Wisconsin.

Assistant coach Jeff Jagodzinski and his wife Lisa, whose daughter Jaci is inflicted with a rare disorder, use the facility four times a week. As a result of the disorder, called West Syndrome..

Staples Coach Of The Week Visit

The students of Green Bay East High School can thank teacher Sue Wink for getting a break from classes today. She was responsible for nominating GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman for the Staples Coach of the Week Award following the Packers' 17-7 win over the Chicago Bears in December.

Principal Terry Fondow and a Staples representative introduced Sherman to the school. Speaking to an auditorium full of students from every grade, Sherman opened by jokingly asking every Bears fan to leave the room.

Sherman went on to detail how he actually started his career as a middle school English teacher and a high school football coach. He emphasized the message that the students need to pursue their passions no matter the endeavor or their skill level. The head coach noted the success of students from East in athletics, art and academics, even mentioning some by name.

He pointed out the passion that Olympic skater Sarah Hughes exuded in her gold-medal performance Thursday. H..

Lambeau Construction On Schedule

Despite hosting an unexpected playoff game this month, Lambeau Field remains on schedule to complete Phase I of its two-year renovation by the 2002 season, construction spokesman Stu Zadra said Wednesday.

During an hour-long tour with Wisconsin media, Zadra added that the project's primary focus is demolition of the old skyboxes. The bowl of the stadium now resembles a ghost town, with the face of every existing skybox open and its interior gutted. That first tier of demolition began Jan. 15, just 48 hours after the Packers beat the 49ers in an NFC Wild Card playoff game.

The second, major tier of demolition, which will completely wipe out the skybox skeleton, begins next week. Crews will carefully collapse the suites, protecting both the new structure and existing seating bowl below. Demolition will progress on the sidelines from north to south, with crews working around the clock in two shifts for about six weeks. Once the Packers move into their new locker room a..

Premier of "I Am Sam" Raises Over $10,000 For Charity

Very rarely would the Historic West Theatre in Green Bay be confused with Los Angeles' famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the home of more Hollywood movie premieres than any other theater. On Wednesday night, however, the Green Bay Packers and New Line Cinema hosted the Midwest premiere of I Am Sam at the Historic West Theatre with all of the proceeds going to N.E.W. Curative Rehabilitation, Inc.

Adorned in black and gold decorations, the Historic West Theatre exposed Green Bay's version of Hollywood complete with a red carpet at the entrance. With close to 200 people attending the premiere, more than $10,000 was raised for charity.

The event began at 5:30 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction. Movie scripts autographed by Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeifer along with movie posters and authentic Packer items were bid upon. The movie was shown an hour later and was followed by the silent auction announcements and remarks from producer Richard Solomon and John Bloo..

Governor McCallum Visits Lambeau

Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum visited the Green Bay Packers' team headquarters this morning to present the Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District Board with a check for infrastructure improvements included with the Lambeau Field Redevelopment Project. Gov. McCallum made the presentation of $9.1 million to Packers' President Bob Harlan and Stadium District Board Treasurer Ted Pamperin.

"The Green Bay Packers are as much a treasure and a heritage in the state of Wisconsin as anything we have," the Governor said. "I am very proud today to say in tight times in the budget that we're going to continue to move ahead to build Wisconsin, to look forward and to take care of the treasures that we have in this state."

The money will be used to refurbish the parking areas in Lambeau Field in conjunction with the redevelopment project. This includes refurbishing work on the parking lot and its bordering streets as well as utility, sewer and water syste..

Team Photographer For A Day

The month of December was an exciting one for Packers fans Tim Klitzman, Pat Bogart and Patrick Fox. They all were winners of a Green Bay Packers and Coca-Cola contest to be a fan team photographer for a game.

Each of the winners received a brand new 35mm camera and 5 rolls of film to shoot a December Packers game from the sidelines of Lambeau Field.

The Packers hosted the Bears, Browns and Vikings during the final month of 2001, with one of the winners attending each game. Tim Klitzman shot the Bears game, Bogart shot the Browns game and Fox shot the Vikings game -- all Packers victories.
