...the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there...

For most of us, that's how we'll remember the line in the story 'Twas The Night Before Christmas this holiday season.

But for two homeless families this Christmas -- one in Houston and the other in the Green Bay area -- the stockings won't only be hung by, but will be stuffed with a new chimney <a href="/images/action/031224driver9.jpg"target="new">along with a house, new furniture, new appliances and everything they need to begin working toward a new life.

"All you're going to have to do is bring your clothes and move in," Packers wide receiver Donald Driver said during a Christmas dinner for the families hoping to be picked to receive the new home in Green Bay.

Sister Isaac Jogues Rousseau Named Sixth Honoree For Packers FAN Hall Of Fame

Sister Isaac Jogues Rousseau, an educator at Mount Mary College from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a "Packer fan from birth" has been named as the sixth annual honoree to the Packers FAN Hall of Fame.

Nominated by a friend, Sister Rousseau becomes the second woman and teacher to win the honor in the six years the FAN Hall of Fame has been in existence.

Her nomination was endorsed in an accompanying essay by Sylvia Linton who wrote, "Marjorie Rousseau, later to become Sister I.J., claims to be a Packer fan from birth since she was born in Green Bay in 1921" - the year Green Bay obtained a franchise in the new national pro football league. "That gave her a head start, she likes to remind everyone. As a toddler, she learned to growl loudly when the Bears came into view, explaining to anyone who asked, 'Those are the bad guys! - Grrrowl!'

Linton went on to describe Sister I.J. as someone who is "soft-spoken, but can on occasion be persuaded to sing (with gusto) a..

Christmas Comes Early For Several Packers Players

The smiles on their faces said it all: Christmas had definitely come early, and that was just from looking at the big kids wearing their Packers jerseys and Santa hats.

It was hard to tell who had more fun -- the players or the kids -- when 13 Green Bay Packers gathered at St. Matthew's Church Thursday to take part in an early Christmas celebration with children from Northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula who are being treated for cancer at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

"Just to be able to put a smile on these little kids' faces is enough joy for me for the whole year," Packers running back Tony Fisher said. "They actually made Christmas for me."

In addition to Fisher, Kevin Barry, Josh Bidwell, Chad Clifton, Najeh Davenport, Donald Driver, Carl Ford, William Henderson, Jason Jimenez, Aaron Kampman, James Lee, Craig Nall and Javon Walker were in attendance.

"It means a great deal to us that they would include the Packers with some of the elite businesses of our state," said John Jones, Packers executive vice president and COO. "It's a great tribute to all the great people on the management team of the organization and how hard they have worked to make the stadium and the new world of an everyday destination tourism venue successful."
NFL, Packers Commit $100,000 Grant To Build Football Field At Bradley Tech

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Technology and Trade School (Bradley Tech), the first new Milwaukee public high school to be built in the last 30 years, will now have a football field, thanks in part to a $100,000 grant from the National Football League's Grassroots program.

The grant, announced today by the NFL and the Green Bay Packers, is included in $1.5 million in new awards that the program is making to community groups for field rehabilitation in 11 cities.

The central city high school -- it admitted its first class in September -- replaced the 95-year-old Milwaukee Tech High School, which had a great athletic reputation.

The new school was built on the athletic fields of the old school, which is slated for demolition. Once it's gone, the new football field will be built on the site of the former high school building. Since construction on the new school began three years ago, student athletic teams have been bused to other locations for sporting even..

Employment Rises At Newly-Renovated Lambeau Field

With the November opening of Paparazzi Pizzeria and Frozen in Time Ice Cream shop as the final year-round dining elements of Lambeau Field Atrium, the $295 million stadium redevelopment project has created an estimated 500 full and part-time jobs at Lambeau Field and its related businesses.

Those new jobs are in addition to the thousands of jobs for workers over nearly three years of construction as the historic 1957 stadium was transformed into the National Football League's first "retro" football stadium and destination tourism venue.

It all adds up to good economic development news for northeast Wisconsin, according to Packers President & CEO Bob Harlan.

"Obviously, the expansion of our seating capacity means we need additional workers on game day and home game weekends," Harlan said. "But it goes far beyond that. With the Atrium, we now have a year-round destination point with special event facilities and seven restaurants, as well as the expanded Pack..

Packers Visit DePere's Notre Dame Elementary & Middle School

The Packers Women's Association 17th Annual Food Drive for Paul's Pantry raised $12,541 and collected 32,400 food items at the Oct. 5 Packers-Seahawks game, but that wasn't all.

Approximately 30 area schools held their own in-school food drives, in conjunction with the Lambeau Field effort, which collected 44,000 food items and Younkers donated $4,000 to the cause, a portion of the proceeds from the department store's grand opening preview sale shopping night, Aug. 8, at its new Oneida St. location.

Thus, the grand total collected this year amounts to $16,541 and 76,400 food items.

Notre Dame Elementary & Middle School in De Pere, Wis., took first place honors among the area schools involved, collecting roughly 18 pounds of food per each of Notre Dame's 357 students -- 6,431 pounds of food overall.

As a reward for the students' hard work, several Packers made an appearance at the school Tuesday.

Normally a day off to relax and recover from the previous week's battle wounds, Tuesday became a day of motivation for three Packers players.

Backup quarterback Craig Nall, offensive guard Mike Wahle and linebacker Marcus Wilkins shared their own life experiences with approximately 90 teen-agers at the Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy at Fort McCoy, Wis.

A high impact, quasi-military style program, the Challenge Academy is designed to offer the cadets -- consisting mainly of high school dropouts or kids who did not perform well in a normal school environment -- the opportunity to develop the strength of character and the life skills necessary to become successful, responsible citizens.

Continuing a 21-year tradition, police officers around the state of Wisconsin are once again armed with Green Bay Packers football cards.

Sponsored by the Navigator Planning Group, the program -- which began during the head coaching tenure of Bart Starr -- now distributes over 125,000 sets of cards to kids each year, up from its original number of 11,000 sets in 1983.

"Kid's can wave to police officers, and if they're not busy, they will pull over to talk to them or they can talk to the officers at various special events," said Ashwaubenon public safety captain Chris Madson, who coordinates the program for the entire state. "For safety reasons, we just ask that the kids not approach police officers making traffic stops or while on other calls."

Nearly 100 police departments across the state are participating in the program, including Green Bay and the surrounding areas of Brown County and De Pere, where 17,000 sets of cards will be handed out.

Bidwell Punting To Help Fight Cancer

Green Bay Packers punter Josh Bidwell will be punting to support The Angel Fund, Inc., during the 2003 season. Bidwell will donate $125 for every punt he puts inside the 20-yard line and the Packers organization will match Bidwell's donation.

The Angel Fund, Inc., in its first year of existence, was developed to assist with the medical expenses incurred by children of Brown County who are fighting cancer.

Bidwell is himself a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer in Sept. 1999, prior to his rookie season.

"The community supported me during the course of my cancer treatment," said Bidwell, who because he was 11 days away from his first regular-season game was ineligible for the NFLPA insurance program.

"I know the financial burden cancer treatment puts on a family. This is my way of saying thank you for the support while helping ease the financial burden of those who are in need."
Residents of Green Bay, ages 17 or younger, were invited to join Mayor Schmitt for free activities including swimming at city pools, rides at Bay Beach Amusement Park, activities at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, lunch with the mayor at Danz Park and library story time and skits at Washington Commons. The events were sponsored by the city and area businesses.

Kampman and Ferrario brought a little extra excitement, talking with kids and signing autographs for much of the day. The day culminated with events for older kids, including a concert and Teen Night.

Pro Shop Receives 'Employer Of The Year' Award

For the second consecutive year, the Packers Pro Shop was named the 'Co-Op Employer of the Year' at an area school following a recommendation by one of its student employees.

Matt Hasseler, of Green Bay's Southwest High School, submitted the winning nomination as part of his Co-Op marketing course.

Hasseler, who has been employed by the Pro Shop for two years, says that along with the renovations at Lambeau Field, his work ethic has also experienced an overhaul based on his experience at the Pro Shop.

"The Packers Pro Shop is multiple times the size of the old store," writes Hasseler, "and with it comes new responsibilities. From having to hire enough people to work the new store, to making sure things run smoothly on gamedays, my employer, Kate Hogan, does a great job."

HOF Statue Looking For New Home

One of the most recognizable and most photographed Packer objects in the country is up for sale.

The 22-foot tall statue of the wide receiver, currently outside of the former Packer Hall of Fame, stands on top of an 11-foot long football, and is looking for a new home.

The statue, made of sculptured concrete with a tough acrylic finish, was recently refurbished by the Packer Hall of Fame, which has an investment in the statue of more than $38,000. The Hall of Fame is looking to recoup that investment and is now accepting bids from interested parties.

The successful bidder will be determined by the Board of Directors of the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, Incorporated. The Board will consider the amount of the bid for the statue, intent, and location of use and the agreement to become a corporate sponsor of the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame.

Redevelopment Spurs Financial Growth

When the Green Bay Packers began the $295 million redevelopment of Lambeau Field three years ago, it wasn't just with the intention of saving the franchise for the present, but also with a commitment to ensure its future.

This week, the Packers organization will distribute to its shareholders the annual report of the 2002-03 fiscal year, which ended March 31. Inside its pages, the report will detail an after-tax operating profit of $15.5 million for 2003, which is up from $3.8 million a year ago.

But while the organization's recent business success confirms the dramatic impact of a redeveloped Lambeau Field -- which will be fully operational by the first game of the regular season -- what it doesn't do is make the Packers' ultimate dream of long-term franchise financial security a reality. At least, not yet.
Packers executive vice president and chief operating officer John Jones and corporate treasurer John Underwood called the 2003 fiscal year "a good st..

When All-Pro Defensive End Joe Johnson left Packers headquarters Wednesday following the final mini-camp practice, it wasn't to take a break from the game. It was merely to exchange his practice cleats for a coach's whistle.

Johnson, who is entering his second year with the Packers and 10th in the league, embarked on the second half of his eight-week, nine-city interactive outreach tour called United We Jam II, which encompasses football camps, hip-hop concerts, training workshops, celebrity basketball games, tournaments and motivational speaking engagements at schools and colleges.

Four restaurants with roots in Northeast Wisconsin will be serving up their specialties when the Lambeau Field Atrium opens for the 2003 Green Bay Packers season. Packers Director of Atrium Business Development, Steve Klegon, announced today that Chili John's Cafe, Brett Favre's Two Minute Grill, the Meat Packing Co. and Fratello's Presto will be part of the Lambeau Field Atrium as game day and special events restaurants.

"Our goal all along was to find the right mix of restaurants for the Atrium and we think we've done that," Klegon said. "Fans will be impressed with the food choices they'll have when they come to the Atrium for a game, a community event or other special event. Chili John's is a hometown favorite, Brett Favre's gives us that Packers connection, while Fratello's and the Meat Packing Co. give us a Valley connection."

Like the Packers, Chili John's is a Green Bay tradition. The Chili John's history actually dates back to 1913, several years be..

The NFL Players Association and PLAYERS INC honored 32 players voted as "Unsung Heroes" by their teammates at the annual NFL Fever/NFL Players Awards Gala held at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC on Thursday, April 10.

The event, which capped two days of activity for the players including a Washington Wizards home game and a Special Olympics basketball game, featured the presentation of 32 "Unsung Hero" awards. These players rarely get the spotlight and often do not receive recognition for their contributions to the community.

Green Bay Packers legend Bart Starr is coming to La Crosse to help Gundersen Lutheran celebrate May Older Americans Month.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback will share a lifetime of unique experiences and insights when he presents "Being the Best You Can Be" on Tuesday, May 20, at 6:45 p.m. in the La Crosse Center's South Ball Room. A cash bar will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner served at 6 p.m.

Being the best he can be is something that Bryan Bartlett "Bart" Starr has done throughout his amazing career on and off the football field.

Starting in high school to his four successful years at the University of Alabama to then being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1956, Starr truly was a "star." During his 15-year playing career in Green Bay, Starr's precision passing helped the Packers win five NFL championships, including victories in the first two Super Bowls.
Driver Honored With Remmel Award

After a breakout season that landed him in the Pro Bowl, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver was honored with the professional achievement award at the sixth-annual Lee Remmel Sports Awards Banquet at the Swan Club in De Pere, Wis., Thursday night.

Driver joined current and former Packers Ryan Longwell, Ahman Green, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, Vonnie Holliday and Bill Schroeder as the sixth recipient of the professional achievement award.

"What an honor it is to get this award," a proud Driver told the audience. "The press was asking me earlier, 'Donald, how do you feel?' And I told them words can't even explain how you feel to get an award (like this)."

Presenting the award to Driver was Packers receivers coach Ray Sherman, who called Driver an "enjoyment" to coach.

"I think one of the things that really stands out about Donald is his worth ethic," Sherman said. "I had the opportunity to coach one of the best receivers in the league, and th..

Winners Of Brown County Ticket Drawing Now Being Notified

There will be some happy Green Bay Packer fans in Brown County this week. That's because 10,000 Brown County residents who registered for an opportunity to purchase individual game tickets for the upcoming Packers season, are now being notified that their names were selected.

"This is truly an exciting event for the Packers organization and its fans," said President Bob Harlan. "When county residents approved using a half-cent sales tax to help pay for the renovation and expansion of Lambeau, we wanted to be sure we could do something for them in return. By allotting 4,000 tickets a game to area residents, it will give a lot of people an opportunity to see a game inside Lambeau for the first time and be a part of the incredible tradition and experience."

Approximately 12,200 county residents registered for the tickets during the past three years. The computer generated, random selection drawing was conducted at the Packers ticket office on Thursday, April 3, 2..

Jack Kemp, whose pro football career helped launch him to a successful career in public service, will serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of USA Football, it was announced Tuesday.
Packers Announce Final Sign-up for Brown County Ticket Drawing

With the dedication of the new Lambeau Field just months away, Brown County residents will have a final opportunity to register to purchase individual game tickets for the upcoming Packers season. The registration period will run March 18-31, with registration forms available at a number of locations within Brown County.

"When the Packers promised to make 4,000 seats per game available to Brown County residents, we also tried to keep the registration process as simple as possible," said Packers Director of Ticket Operations Mark Wagner. "We've already had several registration events. This final sign-up period offers more flexibility for those who couldn't register earlier."

Registration forms for the ticket drawing are available at Shopko stores (Customer Service desks) and Associated Bank locations in Brown County.
Packers Keep In Step With The Competition, Raise Ticket Prices

The Green Bay Packers again are finding it necessary to keep in step with the competition--the other 31 clubs in the National Football League.

As has been true since the Green and Gold entered the NFL in 1921, when Warren Harding occupied the White house, Packers tickets continue to be one of the best values throughout the league.

In order to remain competitive with their NFL rivals, however, the Packers need to increase ticket prices. They thus will raise prices by $4 per ticket in all sections for the 2003 season.

"We were in the bottom third of the league with our ticket prices and now we will be in the upper half overall," Ticket Director Mark Wagner explained, adding, "Without the increase this year -- and in light of all the increases being made by other teams -- we would have to make a more significant raise in the future to keep pace with the other clubs."

Season tickets between the 20-yard lines (sections 115-124 and 322-330) will now be..

Dear Packer Fans,

As many of you know, the Green Bay Packers are gearing up for the summer opening of the new Packers Hall of Fame. The building will be chock full of Packers history, photos and films; a beautiful tribute to our team.

But there's still one area left - a space dedicated to the fans and the community - and we need your help with it.

Called "Titletown's Finest," this empty 30'x10' case is designed to show-off the true love Packer fans have for their green and gold. We want to fill this exhibit case with your Packer memorabilia, photos, items and memories and preserve it for posterity.

Whether it's a model of Lambeau Field made of sugar cubes, a Packer wedding gown, a picture of you at the Ice Bowl or your grandma's Packer quilt, we would love to put it on display in the "Titletown's Finest" exhibit.
Fans, Here's Your Chance To 'Be' In The Packers Hall Of Fame

It is no secret that the Green Bay Packers belong to their fans - literally and figuratively...Always have, always will.

It thus should not come as a surprise that the team's faithful are being offered an opportunity to see themselves "personally" represented in their shrine, the Packer Hall of Fame, currently being restructured and enhanced following its recent move to a new location in the heart of Lambeau Field.

The latter process, for the record, is proceeding nicely and should be completed on schedule - for an August grand opening of the redesigned structure in renovated Lambeau's majestic Atrium complex.

But Hall of Fame archivist Tom Murphy, while acknowledging that the Hall's new configuration "will be chock full of Packers history, photos and films," notes in an open letter to Packers fans that "there's still one area left" for a unique display.

Tauscher Finds Lesson Reading To Students

The audience was a group of first-graders, but the message spoke to the 25-year-old man at the head of the class.

Tuesday, Packers offensive lineman Mark Tauscher read stories to student groups at Pioneer Elementary School in Ashwaubenon, Wis., in support of the Read Across America campaign.

One of the books told the tale of a soccer-playing frog that overcomes several mistakes and eventually scores a game-winning goal for his team.

With great enthusiasm, Tauscher read the book to the students and then asked what they learned from the story.

One first-grader identified the moral perfectly: that perseverance pays off.

An appropriate message for people of all ages, it was especially fitting for Tauscher, who is in the midst of rehabbing a devastating knee injury that ended his 2002 season only two games into the schedule.

But Tauscher isn't a stranger to effort and determination. As he explained to the kids at Pioneer Elementary, i..

Packers Host NFL Hardlines Retail Summit
