The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame now offers a program for Boy and Girl Scout troops that awards them an exclusive Packers helmet patch that can be added to their uniform after successful completion of a tour.

"We enjoy visits from various groups in the Hall of Fame, and the opportunity to connect with scout troops in an educational and meaningful way, and to offer something unique to their patch program was very exciting for us," said Krissy Zegers, Packers Hall of Fame and Stadium Tours manager. "We worked with a couple of local troops to learn more about their programs and were able to put together a program that can be used by all the troops as they come through."

Scout troops have two options for the program, completing an educational guidebook or following a Packers-themed scavenger hunt.

While the Packers and Vikings will compete Sunday on Lambeau Field, Packers fans can get involved in the rivalry Friday afternoon by supporting the Green and Gold to victory in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Challenge, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Dino Heinemeyer Of Shiocton High School Named Green Bay Packers High School Coach Of The Week

Dino Heinemeyer, of Shiocton (Wis.) High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Heinemeyer's Chiefs team improved to 8-0 after defeating conference-rival Iola-Scandinavia by a score of 14-7 last Friday. The Chiefs now travel to Manawa to face the Wolves on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

"It's always a goal to win a conference championship and after last week's victory we've at least clinched a share of that, but we're not looking to settle for a tie," Heinemeyer's said. "A win tomorrow can cap off that perfect season, and we can clinch the title by ourselves."

A native of Shiocton and an alumnus of the program he currently leads, Heinemeyer was a three-way player during his own prep career, appearing at halfback, cornerback, and placekicker under head coach Joe Schleis at the school.

He attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he graduated in 1990.

Hometown Huddle Provides New Local Playground

As a group of Nicolet Elementary School fifth-grade students were spreading woodchips to put the finishing touches on their new playground on Tuesday afternoon, they could be heard shouting what they liked best about it.

"It's so much bigger!"

"The swings are higher and longer!"

"And there's more swings so we don't have to take turns!"

Then one last detail, from a young Packers fan.

"It's green and yellow!"

If nothing else, the colors will provide a subtle reminder in the coming years at Nicolet as to how the students got their new playground, through the 11th annual United Way Hometown Huddle project. Several Green Bay Packers spent the day helping to install the new equipment, re-paint the old equipment, and spread large piles of mulch to serve as a soft and safe playing field.

Nicolet was the beneficiary of not only this year's local Hometown Huddle project, but also an additional $5,000 grant through United Way Worldw..

The Green Bay Packers' "Hunting Down Hunger" orange caps are proving to be a popular item for fans thus far this season, with nearly 12,000 sold. Proceeds from the cap sales will support the effort to fight hunger in Wisconsin communities.

"Fans have been very enthusiastic about the caps," said Kate Hogan, Packers director of retail operations. "We've had a lot of hunters purchase caps, too, with bow season underway and gun season right around the corner. We're pleased with sales thus far."

Through sales of three styles of hunter orange hats with the Packers' 'G,' two baseball caps, one orange and one with a camouflage pattern, and an orange cold-weather knit hat, the team will raise money for donation to statewide pantries, shelters and other organizations that have programs supporting hunger relief. The hats also have the words "Hunting Down Hunger" on the le..

Todd Stoffel Of Marathon High School Named Green Bay Packers High School Coach Of The Week

Todd Stoffel, of Marathon (Wis.) High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Stoffel is in his eighth season as head coach and 11th with the Marathon program. After qualifying for the playoffs each of the last two seasons, the Red Raiders are off to a 7-0 start in 2009. By virtue of their 21-7 victory over previously unbeaten Stratford on Oct. 2, Marathon is now positioned atop the Marawood Conference standings as the postseason approaches. Even more impressive was that the team's win at Stratford handed the Tigers their first home loss since the 2001 season.

"Our motto is to 'Take The Next Step', and to beat a program like Stratford on their home field really says a lot for our players and coaches," Stoffel said. "It also shows the commitment that has been invested over these past few years."

PWA Plans 23rd Annual Food Drive To Benefit Paul's Pantry

Usually when I head to the Lambeau Field Atrium, it is to support the Packers as they take on an opponent. On Sept. 29, it was for a very different reason. Laura Hawk and I headed into the Atrium to film a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for the Packers Women's Association Annual Food drive to benefit Paul's Pantry and the residents of Brown County. The PWA is again teaming up with Festival Foods for the effort this year. The filming took only 15 minutes and the final PSA is about 30 seconds, but it is vital in promoting the food drive and getting the community involved in such a great cause.

It can be daunting to stare down the lens of a video camera and to recite your lines, hoping that they will all sound great, but when I remember the lives that it will help, it is worth it. When the opportunity arises, it is important to step out of the comfort zone to help those around us, and there are many around us that need our help.

Paul Havel, of Heritage Christian High School in Milwaukee, Wis., has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Through the first five games of the 2009 season, Havel's Patriots team has stormed out to a 4-1 record, the best start in the program's six-year history. Making their early-season success even more special was the team's 35-34 come-from-behind win over conference-rival Lake Country Lutheran, another first for the young program.

"This was the first time that we defeated Lake Country Lutheran," Havel said. "It was a fun game with a lot of scoring and we were happy we were able celebrate an exciting homecoming victory."

Havel started his coaching career in 2004 as the head coach of Heritage's practice team. In 2005, the WIAA invited Heritage Christian to become a member of the Midwest Classic North Conference, and Havel subsequently assumed the head-coaching duties for the varsity program.

"On behalf of the State of Wisconsin, I am proud to invite Wisconsin's Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans and their families to an important celebration at Lambeau Field in May 2010," Gov.
Matthews joined two teammates, longsnapper Brett Goode and defensive end Alfred Malone, for the second session of the 12th annual Junior Power Pack Clinic, an event that welcomes members of the Packers' official kids' fan club to participate in football drills that the team works through in practice each day.

"Obviously the athletes playing are a little different," Matthews said, smiling in recollection of his first community appearance as a member of the Packers. "But it's great to come out and be an ambassador for the team and interact with the kids and get to help out with the drills."

To commemorate Black History Month, the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame held a panel discussion Thursday night broaching issues surrounding African-American players and their contributions to the league, the community and beyond.

Throughout the discussion, panelists recalled stories from their formative years to show how they've been so successful. If the panel had one thing in common, it's the belief that perseverance pays off in the end.

Rodgers Drawing Wins National Contest For Local Teen Artist

Jessie McDonald has several drawings of football players hanging up around her bedroom that she admits "aren't the greatest."

This one, though, is a different story.

Jessie is a 13-year-old artist from Sobieski, Wis., a small community just 20 minutes north of Green Bay. This past football season, she decided to enter an online sports art contest sponsored by SIKids.com, and after perusing various photos on Packers.com, settled on a shot of quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the 2008 season opener against Minnesota as her subject.

"The Packers are my favorite sports team, so I thought I'd just draw them," Jessie said. "I don't really remember why I picked Aaron Rodgers, but I do know I liked that picture better than all the other ones, because it zoomed up on his face and there was only one football player in the picture. I didn't want to have to draw two."

That turned out to be a prudent choice, allowing her to focus on every last detail of Rodgers, f..

"I really wanted to win it," Bailey said of having her design chosen. "I knew I wanted to give them high-quality work and I knew I'd be able to come up with something."

Bailey and 15 fellow students in Mary Sue Fenner's Visual Design II course in the Marketing & Graphic Communications and Print program at NWTC participate in service learning by completing 20 to 25 projects for area non-profit organizations each year. The projects mainly deal with creating new logos or images, as well as pamphlets and other print materials for the organizations.
