NFL Draft Notes- Hard-hitting pass defender with explosive speed...Excellent leaper who shows superb ball anticipation skills...Plays the receivers very tight & is known for his punishing shots at the line of scrimmage that consistently jams up his man...Plants & cuts quickly coming out of his backpedal & takes proper angles in pursuit...Patiently waits for his blocks to develop & then turns on the afterburners to blaze past opponents on returns...Recently timed at 4.34 in the 40-yard dash...Has experience at every position in the secondary...Ranks third on the school's career-record list with 35 pass deflections...Established a Clemson all-time record for yards gained on takeaways (fumble returns & interception returns) with 299 yards, topping the previous mark of 275 by Rex Varn (1976-79).
1998- All-American second-team & All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection by The Sports Network...Semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award...Manned the weakside cornerback position, recording 43 tackles (24 solos) with a team-high 14 pass deflections...Recovered two fumbles for 104 yards in returns...Had a pair of interception returns for 58 yards, six punt returns for 82 yards (13.7 avg) & 13 kickoff returns for 350 yards (26.9 avg)... Averaged 43.2 all-purpose yards per game.
Virginia...Became the first player in school history to register two plays for over 80 yards in the same game (also in a season) as he recovered a fumble, returning it 93 yards for a touchdown, had an 85-yard kickoff return, blocked a kick, deflected 2 passes & made 4 tackles.
Wake Forest...Collected 5 tackles with 3 kickoff returns for 79 yards & a fumble recovery, which he advanced 11 yards.
North Carolina...Picked off a pass, gained 22 yards on a punt return, 40 yards on 2 kickoff returns & posted 8 tackles with 3 pass break-ups.
Maryland...Added 6 hits with 2 pass deflections, a 25-yard kickoff return & a 56-yard interception return.
Florida State...Deflected 3 passes & delivered 4 tackles (3 solos).
South Carolina...Closed out his career with 4 tackles.
1997- All-American honorable mention & All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team choice by The Sports Network...Started the first six games at strong safety & the final five contests at strongside cornerback...Recorded 52 tackles (38 solos) with 15 pass deflections...Intercepted four passes for 81 yards in returns & added 280 yards on 12 kickoff returns (23.3 avg).
Appalachian State...Opened the season with a 35-yard interception return, a pass break-up & 7 tackles (6 solos).
North Carolina State...Deflected 2 passes & posted 9 hits.
Georgia Tech...Intercepted a pass, batted away 2 others, made 4 tackles & had 2 kickoff returns for 46 yards.
Texas-El Paso...Followed with 3 pass break-ups & 4 stops.
Virginia...Posted 6 tackles (5 solos) with a 33-yard interception return.
Wake Forest...Returned 3 kickoffs for 62 yards, deflected a pass & made 4 solo hits.
South Carolina...Had a pair of interceptions for 46 yards in returns, including a 42-yarder for a touchdown, gained 40 yards on 2 kickoff returns, deflected 3 passes & delivered 7 tackles.
Auburn (Peach Bowl)...Added 3 tackles & a pass break-up.
1996- Started every game at strong safety, finishing fifth on the team with 83 tackles (54 solos)...Picked off two passes & deflected four others...Returned three kickoffs for 43 yards (11.3 avg) & two punts for 18 yards (9.0 avg).
North Carolina...Began the season with 8 tackles & 2 punt returns for 18 yards.
Wake Forest & Virginia...Registered 11 tackles in both games.
Florida State...Picked off a pass & deflected 2 others.
Georgia Tech...Was in on 10 hits (8 solos).
South Carolina...Added 6 tackles with a pass break-up & returned an interception 58 yards to set up a score.
Louisiana State (Peach Bowl)...Made 11 tackles (6 solos).
1995- Special teams standout, appearing in every game as he made 41 tackles (23 solos) on defense & 11 hits on special teams...Deflected two passes...Returned four punts for 57 yards (14.3 avg) & two kickoffs for 40 yards
