OVERVIEW
Spitz is a versatile and physical athlete who can play both guard positions, in addition to having experience at center. An intelligent lineman who recognizes coverages and has great field awareness, he is perfectly capable of calling blocking assignments. He is also one of the strongest players on the team, boasting a 585-pound squat and competed in organized weightlifting during his high school days.
Jason was a first-team All-First Coast selection by the Florida Times-Union as a two-way lineman at The Bolles High School. He finished his senior season with ten quarterback sacks and 56 tackles, earning second-team All-State honors from the Florida Times-Union. He began his prep career at Wilson High School, recording 50 tackles and a pair of sacks as a junior. He was a member of the Bolles High weightlifting squad with a 425 bench press and 650 squat. He also lettered in track, advancing to the regional level as a junior in the shot put and discus.
Spitz redshirted in 2001 at Louisville. He took over right guard duties in the second game of the 2002 season, starting six times before he suffered a knee injury that would sideline him the rest of the schedule. He came back to start every game at right guard in 2003, earning All-Conference USA second-team honors.
The team experimented with Jason at center during 2004 fall camp, but he went on to start every game at right guard. He again earned second-team All-Conference USA honors as a junior. He continued his string of consecutive starting string to 39, playing in every game at left guard as a senior. He closed out his career as a first-team All-Big East Conference choice.

2005 SEASON
Earned All-Big East Conference first-team honors...Started all year at left offensive guard, helping the offense generate 5,785 yards, ranking ninth in the nation in total offense (482.08 ypg), third in scoring (43.2 ppg), 13th in passing yardage (293.58 ypg) and third in pass efficiency (159.85 rating)...Registered 81 key blocks, with thirteen resulting in touch-downs in 848 plays.
2004 SEASON
All-Conference USA second-team selection...Started every game at right guard after experimenting at center during fall camp...Led the way as the offense averaged 539.0 yards per game, the best figure in the NCAA Division 1-A ranks...Also led the nation in scoring offense (49.75 ppg) and pass efficiency rating (174.36) while ranking eighth in rushing (250.42 ypg) and ninth in passing (288.58 ypg)...Collected 72 knockdowns with fourteen touchdown-resulting blocks in 893 plays.
2003 SEASON
All-Conference USA second-team selection...Started all year at right guard, producing 67 knockdowns with seven touchdown-resulting blocks as the team 488.8 yards per game... Part of an offensive line that allowed only thirteen quarterback sacks for the season.
2002 SEASON
Moved into the starting lineup at right guard in the second game vs. Duke, starting six games before suffering a left knee torn medial collateral ligament vs. Texas Christian... Missed the next five games before returning vs. Marshall in the GMAC Bowl.
2001 SEASON
Redshirted as a freshman.
