Clark Harris | Tight End | Rutgers | 6'5" - 256 lbs.
OVERVIEW
The four-year starter has been a model of consistency for the Scarlet Knights. He compiled a
string of 38 consecutive games with at least one reception, the third-longest streak in Big East
Conference history. Only three times during his career has Clark been held without a reception.
He is regarded by most as the school's finest tight end prospect since Marco Battaglia (1992-95).
Clark was a standout tight end and defensive end at Southern Regional High School. He earned
All-Ocean County honors from the Times-Observer and Star Ledger, and was an All-Atlantic City
Press choice during his senior season. He was rated the 22nd-best tight end in the nation by
Student Sports Magazine, adding All-American and All-Region honors from Prep Star.
Harris led the team to a berth in the NJSIAA's South Jersey Group IV playoffs, as he made 29
tackles, including six sacks and seven stops behind the line of scrimmage while also recovering
two fumbles, returning one for a score in 2001. He also caught seven passes for 361 yards and
three touchdowns that year. Of his thirteen career receptions in a run-oriented offense, five went
for scores. The three-year starter also handled the long-snapping duties, earning a spot on the
New Jersey Football Coaches Association Super 100 football team.
The versatile athlete also played basketball and competed in track. He was selected to compete
in the North-South New Jersey All-Star Basketball Game. He finished fifth in the Meet of
Champions in the javelin with a throw of 180' 3" as a junior and placed fourth in the javelin at the
Penn Relays as a senior. He graduated as a Rotary Club Scholar-Athlete and played for New
Jersey in the 2002 Governor's Bowl.
Harris enrolled at Rutgers in 2002, spending the season on the scout team. He moved into the
lineup in 2003, catching eighteen passes for 213 yards (11.8 avg) for a run-oriented offense. He
also made three tackles (2 solos). As a sophomore, he earned All-Big East Conference first-team
honors, as he led the league's tight ends with 53 receptions for 725 yards (13.7 avg) and five
touchdowns. He also delivered three solo tackles.
Harris repeated as an All-Big East Conference first-team choice in 2005. He led the team into
postseason action, compiling 584 yards with four touchdowns on 38 catches (15.4 avg) while also
making one solo tackle. In 2006, Clark continued to start at tight end, but the team shifted back to
a run-oriented attack. He started all thirteen games, ranking second on the squad with 34
receptions for 493 yards (14.5 avg) and two touchdowns.
In 48 games at Rutgers, Clark started 33 times. He hauled down 143 passes for 2,015 yards
(14.1 avg). His eleven touchdown catches rank tied for seventh in Scralet Knights annals. He also
recorded eight tackles (7 solos).
CAREER NOTES
Harris ranks sixth in school history with 143 receptions, topped by Brian Leonard (200, 2003-
present), Tres Moses (192, 2001-05, Marco Battaglia (171, 1992-95), Jim Guarantano (158,
1989-92) and Chris Brantley (144, 1990-93)...His 2,015 yards receiving placed him fifth on the
Rutgers all-time record list behind Tres Moses (2,522), Andrew Baker (2,268 yards, 1981-84),
Marco Battaglia (2,221) and Jim Guarantano (2,065)...His eleven touchdown catches rank
eleventh all-time in Scarlet Knights annals...Harris compiled a string of 38 consecutive games
with at least one reception, the third-longest consecutive game streak in Big East Conference
history...Clark's 725 yards receiving in 2004 was good for eleventh on the school's season-record
list.
2006 SEASON
All-Big East Conference second-team choice by The NFL Draft Report...Started every game,
ranking second on the squad with 34 receptions for 493 yards (14.5 avg) and two touchdowns...
22 of his catches produced first downs...Six of his receptions gained 20 yards or more and he
caught 2-of-4 tosses to him inside the red zone.
2005 SEASON
All-Big East Conference first-team selection...Started every game, except vs. West
Virginia...Ranked third on the team with 38 receptions for 584 yards (15.4 avg) and four
touchdowns...27 of his catches produced first downs, as Clark converted 5-of-18 third-down
plays and one more on fourth-down action...Thirteen of his grabs were for 20 yards or
longer...Had big plays that set up nine touchdown drives and four more that ended with field
goals...Ranked first in the Big East among tight ends with an average of 3.17 catches and 48.7
yards receiving per game.
2004 SEASON
Harris garnered first-team All-Big East Conference honors as a sophomore...He started eight of
eleven games, ranking fifth in the conference with 4.73 catches and 65.91 yards per game
receiving (only Trey Haverty of Texas Tech, with 84.92 yards per game, had a better average
among NCAA Division 1-A tight ends)...Ranked third on the team with a career-high 53
receptions for 725 yards (13.7 avg) and five touchdowns...Also recorded three solo
tackles...Gained over 100 yards receiving vs. Kent State, Pittsburgh and Navy... Caught 32 of his
53 receptions during the team's final five games.
2003 SEASON
Played in every game as a redshirt freshman, ranking fourth on the team as he led the squad's
tight ends with eighteen catches for 213 yards (11.8 avg)...Also recorded three tackles (2 solos).
2002 SEASON
Spent the season redshirting and performing on the scout team.
