Green Bay vs. Chicago - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Regular Season - Packers Win 38-24

HEAD COACH MIKE HOLMGREN:
  • (on the loss of cornerback Craig Newsome for the season) "It's a huge loss. He's been such a great cornerback and he's getting better all the time. It was on the first play of the game -- I don't even know how he did it. But he's upbeat and he's a great young man. We have a great medical staff and he'll be back next year."
  • (on whether the injuries took away from the win) "I always try to take (injuries) personally. I feel bad for the players. But I try to separate those two. I don't want to take anything away from what the team accomplished."
  • (on his overall take on the game) "I think we left room for improvement. It was a fiercely fought game. Both teams played very hard and both teams created mistakes by their tenacious play. A win is a win, and all wins are great."
  • (on whether the touchdown by Robert Brooks was a big lift heading into halftime) "Any time you score before the half, it gives you a big lift. I'm very happy for Robert. To have him back on the field and contributing is great for our team."

Coach Holmgren comments on the gameplay

WIDE RECEIVER BILL SCHROEDER:
"I was a little bit nervous tonight but things went pretty well. I had great blocking. I wish I could have broke some more of those returns. But I had a great time."

KICKER RYAN LONGWELL:
(on whether he changed his approach because this was his first regular-season game) "I didn't change my approach. There was a lot of pressure and I was definitely nervous. But I warmed up the same and they all happened to go straight."

WIDE RECEIVER ROBERT BROOKS:
  • (on his touchdown catch) "It felt good because I wanted to make sure to do something that would help my teammates win. It was something that got us going -- it gave us a spark for the rest of the evening."
  • (on the loss of tight end Mark Chmura for a month) "It's going to hurt any team when you lose a great player like Mark. We just have to step it up now. I made sure to go over to (Chmura and Newsome) because I know exactly how they feel. They just have to stay positive."
