Green Bay vs. Baltimore - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Regular Season - Packers Win 28-10

COACH HOLMGREN'S POSTGAME COMMENTS:
"A real work of art out there. Let's not lose sight that the bottom line is what we got and that is a win. That was very important to us. We were a little sloppy out there in some areas, but it was a win."

(on the running game) "It wasn't real productive out there. But give a lot of credit to Baltimore. They are a fine football team with a young, athletic and fast defense. Towards the end they were stacking the line, so we weren't going to get much of them. I thought we ran enough to keep them honest. We cannot depend on just throwing the ball to win."

(on the defensive line) "I think with Keith McKenzie and Vaughn Booker, they allow us to give Reggie (White) and Gilbert (Brown) a blow every now and then. It allows (defensive coordinator) Fritz (Shurmur) to mix and match out there, which he likes to do anyways. Fritz is a master at that. Going back to the Super Bowl last year, I think our defensive line was a cause of concern for us. But now it has become a strength."

(on how to improve the running game) "That's a good question. We will keep working hard at it and that usually helps to improve any area. Travis (Jervey) should continue to get better. The offensive line should continue to get better."

(on the no-huddle offense) "We planned to use based on their defense and their schemes. It allowed us to move the ball."

(on play of Brett Favre) "I thought he played better today, most certainly. We were playing a real fine football team out there. They create problems and pressure for teams. I thought he handled that pretty well."

(on Roell Preston) "His kick return was huge. He has to be careful on his cutbacks, because that was where he got hit. Our guys get excited about blocking for a guy like that. I think the special teams curve has gone up every week, and I thought that would happen because at the start of the season we had a new coach and new players."

(on returning to playing games each week) "I am looking forward to that. Ever since Japan, our schedule has been a little unusual. It will be nice for the players and coaches to get into a rhythm."

QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:
(on looking like he was having fun during the game) "Yeah. It's always fun to make plays out there. I'll tell you what, they have a great defense out there."

(on Mike Holmgren being emotional during the game) "I didn't see it, but I heard about it. He just tells me the plays and I have enough to worry about that. Mike is a competitor. He never settles for second-best. I am sure after a game he feels like he played, and that is good."

(on the no-huddle offense) "It gives us a different look out there. We were just trying to throw them off a little bit. It slows down their blitz calls when they can't huddle up. I like it."

(on his touchdown run) "It was a quarterback draw. I think I was supposed to get in there a little quicker. I'll tell you, the older I get I can't run any more. I'm so quick that everyone keeps going for the first fake of mine. It was a two-yard run, but it felt like 32 yards."

(on starting 100 straight regular-season games) "It's going to end sometime. I just hope it ends when I say it ends. I am really proud of that mark, more than anything else I've done. I want to play every week. There is nothing worse than not playing."

PUNT/KICK RETURNER ROELL PRESTON:
(on whether his punt return for a touchdown was more gratifying than the kick returns for touchdowns) "It doesn't feel any better than a kickoff return for a touchdown. I feel like that's my job. There wasn't any added pressure. It's something I've always wanted to do. It's not just one guy, it's about teamwork."

(on whether Head Coach Mike Holmgren said anything about slowing down at the end of the touchdown return?) "No. He didn't say anything, but he probably will."

(on whether he thinks his role will intensify against a team like San Francisco due to his recent success) "No. I feel like this every game. I'm trying to take it in every time I catch the ball. So it's not a certain team or a certain time. I feel like every time you kick it off to me, I feel you disrespect me."

(on the importance of scoring on a return early) "I feel like that's my advantage, making it happen on the first play. For me, I'm rooting for us to win the coin toss because I like to hurt you right off the bat."

TIGHT END TYRONE DAVIS:
(on whether his key block for Roell Preston's touchdown was a right return) "Yes, that's why I picked (his man) off, because he (Preston) was coming my way. I knew I had to get somebody."

DEFENSIVE TACKLE SANTANA DOTSON:
(on whether LeRoy Butler thanked him for pressuring the quarterback into throwing the ball Butler intercepted) "Yeah, he thanked me. He's been working hard. He's one of those guys who comes to play every game. The quarterback threw up a duck, and he did a good job catching it."

(on how much pride the defensive line has after playing well against an excellent offensive line) "We feel like if we're not the strongest, we're one of the strongest defensive lines in the NFL. A lot of pressure was on us this week to come up and make plays. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves every week to do so. They have a good offensive line, and those guys did some good things today, but luckily we were able to come up with some things."

(on how the defense played) "Defensively, when we go into a game, we just want to make an offense work for everything. We want to make them earn their touchdowns and their scores. It was hard for Baltimore to go down consistently and drive the ball on us. We feel like if we make an offense drive 10, 12 plays, it's going to be very hard for them to score."

(on playing the 49ers) "It's definitely going to be a big game. It's a tough NFC challenge for us."

WIDE RECEIVER ANTONIO FREEMAN:
(on his touchdown catch) "Once I get the cornerback's hips turned, it's my job to turn around and Brett makes the read. I gave him a double-move and got him to open his hips, and when he opens his hips, it's a clear lane for Brett to throw the football, and we got six points."

(on his one-handed 44-yard reception) "Well, we changed the play at the line of scrimmage and I saw (Robert) Brooks running down the field. I saw the ball coming. I turned my hips, and relocated the ball."

(on why they threw a lot of quick hitches to him) "They were mixing up their coverages. (Rod) Woodson was basically playing off. (DeRon) Jenkins, he was as well. We just wanted to get the ball, and give us a chance to make them miss. If you can get five or six yards, that's a good play. We're hoping to make them miss and get some positive yardage."

(on the running game) "Travis (Jervey) ran the ball well. It's something you keep working on and hopefully get results some point in the season."

RUNNING BACK TRAVIS JERVEY:
(on the game) "Shoot, as long as we win...if they want to stop the run, they gotta deal with Brett (Favre). If they wanna shut Brett down, they gotta deal with me. Statistically we got a little beaten running at the end. But hey, that's a great defense, give them a lot of credit. I was surprised at their quickness. I've seen it on film... but getting hit like that from the side surprised me some times."

(on the play of the offensive line) "I felt the blocking was all right. It's just that they had eight guys up there (in the box). You'll see guys getting free. But like I said, if they do that, it's going to cause problems for the running game. But at the same time, Brett was successful, and found some seams, put some points on the board and won the game."

OFFENSIVE GUARD ADAM TIMMERMAN:
(on the offensive line's play against the Ravens' quality front seven) "I thought we did well, I thought we hurt ourselves at times. They did some things well, though. They got in there and harassed Brett quite a bit. They did a great job that way. They do things quickly."
