HEAD COACH STEVE MARIUCCI:
"The play of the special teams was a bit frustrating. They got us down
early 16-0, but I liked the way we fought back.
"We took the lead in the third (quarter) and I thought we had taken
control of the game at that point. Then they got some quick scores, and
that was the turning point.
"Obviously, I thought this was going to be a big game for our
organization. Naturally, I'm disappointed, but we have to bounce back
and beat Carolina at home next week. This was a tough loss.
"On some long yardage, they got to the quarterback and we lost the ball,
that put him (Young) in some tough situations.
"This game has us down 6-2 for the season, but we have another half to
go. We have to handle that properly.
"We ran the ball well, Garrison (Hearst) had some good yards. There was
a lot of pressure on Steve. I didn't think we would be running as much
-- we wanted to mix the run with the passing. I didn't want this to
become a passing contest, but we popped a couple of nice runs.
"We had the opportunities, we didn't capitalize on them. After the half
we came back with a good return on the kick, but then we went
three-and-out."
(on Antonio Freeman's two TD catches) "We'll have to check the film on
that. He just got behind us -- those were big plays."
(on his Green Bay homecoming) "It was not easy to lose, but I'll get
over it. We have no time to feel sorry for ourselves. This game does
not end the season as the NFC playoff did. We have to get home and have
a good second half.
"They put great heat on the quarterback when we tried to throw deep."
WIDE RECEIVER JERRY RICE:
"We showed a sense of urgency in this game, but I can't say we played
well. We had the opportunities but didn't capitalize on them.. That's
basically it.
"We can't throw this game away and say it wasn't important.
"I'm tired of losing (to the Packers) -- we have to bring it to an end."
GUARD RAY BROWN:
"When you are down 16-0 it is hard to come back. They (the Packers) made
the big plays."
QUARTERBACK STEVE YOUNG:
"We got down early -- that's tough when you are on the road.
"We ran the ball real well.
"Now the challenge is for us to regroup."
(on LeRoy Butler) "I knew he would be coming, but I also messed up on a
few (plays).
"We had good field position, but got zero a couple of times and only
three on another.
"They made some good combinations on defense. They get their hands up.
"We played the top team in football and we were right there. We have to
overcome this.
"Their pass rush was real good, but then we have to figure out a way to
get our guys open."
"Today we made a lot of mistakes, but we also had some good plays. They
took away our throwing lanes, so then we ran.
