Green Bay vs. Denver - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay
Pre-Season - Packers Win 27-12
HEAD COACH RAY RHODES Overall impressions of the game: "The team came out of the gate ready to play. Offensively, defensively, those guys were looking forward to the test and it was good to see that. We stil have to work on a few things with our first unit, to work on and improve, but we had a lot of guys that stepped up and did a pretty good job."
On quarterback Brett Favre: "He hit his thumb on a helmet. Doctors okayed him to play. He's fine. I elected not to put him in the game. As you know, Brett is a tough guy to keep on the sideline."
On quarterback Matt Hasselbeck: "Matt came in and played extremely well. I thought Matt executed and moved the football team. He made some real good decisions as far as throwing the football."
On the defensive performance: "Defensively, I thought we did a good job. They had one big drive where they moved the football. When they got down to the goal-line area, they were able to hold them and keep them out of the end zone. But again, we still have a lot of work to do and we'll keep working."
On cornerback Mike McKenzie: "Mike came in a did a real good job. That touchdown in the corner of the end zone, wasn't his fault, I don't think. I'll have to look at the tape. One of the reasons Mike went in earlier tonight was because he did a real good job last week. Next week both (McKenzie and Antuan Edwards) guys will play the same."
QUARTERBACK MATT HASSELBECK: "Tonight I just let the tempo and the excitement carry me all through the game. I'm really fortunate about the way things turned out during the game. They (Broncos) have some tough blitzes that they bring at you. My teammates made it work for me tonight.
"There's still some things that this football team needs to work on and improve. My number one goal for tonight was to get the ball in the end zone. I did that tonight because my receivers and my tight ends made some great catches out there."
SAFETY SCOTT MCGARRAHAN: "Personally, I wanted to concentrate on being consistent tonight, above all else. I wanted to be sound in my assignments and make no mental mistakes.
"Tonight was totally unbelievable. If you would have told me two years ago that I would start a game for the Green Bay Packers, I would have thought you were crazy. Overall, it was a great night...something that not a whole lot of people in this world get to experience."
CORNERBACK MIKE MCKENZIE: "I made some mistakes tonight that I have to improve upon. My goal is always to not give up any big plays. As a team tonight, I think we have to be happy with a lot of aspects that we improved upon from the Jets game. Everyone wanted to do their best so badly that it just all came together."
WIDE RECEIVER BILL SCHROEDER: "I think our team executed very well tonight. We worked hard against their blitzes all night tonight. Our offensive line gave our quarterbacks a lot of time to throw tonight, which helped them a lot.
"Matt (Hasselbeck) had fire in his eyes tonight. When Brett went out, we didn't miss a beat. The coaches proved that they have a lot of confidence in him tonight, and he responded. I know it's the preseason, but a win is a win and it feels good."
DEFENSIVE END KEITH MCKENZIE: "We need everyone to perform every night we go out there to play. I feel like we have three starting defensive ends on this team. We're all starters in my book because we all contribute. Vaughn's the man right now, but we all have to go out hard every time.
"Every team has roles that they need to fill. I'm a role player and I want to win. I'm going to do whatever is needed to win."
