Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre begins to leave the field after leading the Packers to an amazing 23-20 come from behind victory in the final seconds of the game.

The Green Bay Packers pulled another rabbit out of their hat with a shocking 23-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in front of 59,868 fans in Lambeau Field. Not surprisingly, the story was once again Brett Favre. Once again, he was able to execute a precise, effective drive moving the Packer offense from deep in their own territory to the opposition's end zone in the nick of time to secure a victory.

This time Corey Bradford hauled in the Favre pass from 23 yards out to give the Packers an improbable win.

It didn't look good for the Green and Gold as they relinquished a 16-13 lead when Randall Cunningham found Randy Moss in the middle of the Packer end zone with 1:56 remaining. The catch was only Moss' third of the contest, giving him 13-yards on the afternoon. Moss was held in check by rookie cornerback Mike McKenzie for the most part with some help from Tyrone Williams and first-round draft pick Antuan Edwards.

The game did not start promising for the Packers. They won the coin toss and elected to receive. After picking up one first down, they were forced to punt. A strong punt it was, as newly acquired Louie Aguiar sent one sailing 57 yards deep into Viking territory as it was downed at the 6-yard line by Tod McBride.

The Vikings then controlled the ball and the clock, moving the ball efficiently to the Packer 8-yard line on a good mix of passes to Cris Carter and Jake Reed and runs by Robert Smith. But the "Bend but don't break" defense of the Packers stood tall, forcing a third down and goal from the 5-yard line. Cunningham dropped back to pass, and zinged one through the back of the end zone in Carter's direction. The umpire zinged a yellow flag in Darren Sharper's direction signifying pass interference and a new set of downs for the lethal Viking offense. Once again, the defense didn't budge forcing a third and goal from the 1-yard line. Cunningham attempted a sneak play, but was denied by Brian Williams and Sharper, but once again a yellow flag was flung in a Packer's direction. This time, an unnecessary roughness call on George Koonce allowed the Vikings another shot at the end zone. They wasted no time, as Leroy Hoard ran in for the score.

Ryan Longwell would answer with a 28-yard field goal to make the score 7-3. The teams would trade punts. With the Vikings pinned deep in their own zone, Cunningham threw for Moss, but Edwards read the play and intercepted the pass at the 26-yard line, received a strong block from Vonnie Holliday and managed to score a touchdown sending the Lambeau faithful into a frenzy. With the extra point from Longwell, it was 10-7 Packers.

The Vikings would kick a field to knot the score at 10 at halftime.

Gary Anderson would start the second half scoring with a 22-yard field goal after the Vikings failed on a replay challenge. Moss juggled a pass on the fade route and was ruled to have never had possession of the ball.

Longwell would answer with a 35-yarder tying the score at 13. After trading punts, Longwell nailed a 34-yard attempt to give the Packers a 16-13 lead with 4:25 remaining.

On the ensuing possession Cunningham found Moss to give the Vikings a 20-16 lead. Then Favre found Bradford with 16 ticks on the clock.

The Vikings desperation attempt was interecpted by Edwards as the clock expired.

Big players make big plays in big games, and today was no different. LeRoy Butler made 9 tackles. Bernardo Harris was close behind with 8 and Brian Williams had 7. Billy Lyon and Vaughn Booker were able to corral the elusive Randall Cunningham for sacks. Mike McKenzie had one pass defensed, but limited Pro Bowl receiver Randy Moss to three catches. Antuan Edwards had two passes defensed, the two he intercepted, but also aided in limiting Moss.

The Packers have a week off to rest and ready themselves for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Favre's 30th birthday, October 10 at Lambeau Field. Kick off is slated for 7:20 Central time.
