Green Bay vs. Dallas
11/14/99 - Packers Lose 27-13
The Green Bay Packers (4-5) lost to the Dallas Cowboys (5-4) 27-13 in Dallas Stadium in Irving, Texas. The Packers had a shot at winning with another last second drive, but Brett Favre's pass was intercepted by George Teague and to make matters worse, he returned it for a 95-yard touchdown return as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
The Packers were in position to tie the score after Fred Vinson recovered an onside kick. After doing so, the Packers had possession at their own 43-yard line. After moving the ball to the Cowboy 41, Favre took a shot at the end zone as Donald Driver beat Deion Sanders down the field, but the pass landed out of the end zone incomplete.
Favre bounced back with a completion to Bill Schroeder to the Dallas 25-yard line. The next play Favre was intercepted by Teague dashing any hopes for a fourth last second touchdown drive.
The Packers received the opening kickoff and tried to set the tempo with a deep pass to Corey Bradford. Bradford had beaten Sanders down the field, and Favre took a shot, but the pass slipped through Bradford's arms incomplete.
The Cowboys forced a punt giving their offense a shot. Jason Garrett methodically moved the ball down the field against the Packer defense. The drive culminated in a 6-yard touchdown pass to David LeFleur and Cowboys were up 7-0.
The Cowboys would have a shot at extending their lead to 10-0, but Richie Cunningham's 22-yard field goal attempt was wide left.
The Packers would answer the field goal with a drive of their own, moving the ball down to the Dallas 6-yard line. Favre rolled right and tried to find Jeff Thomason in the back of the end zone, but Kevin Smith stepped in front of the pass and intercepted it.
The teams traded punts, and Dallas had possession. Chris Warren had run the ball to the Dallas 24-yard line before he was stopped by Gilbert Brown, somewhere in the pile the ball was ripped from Warren's clutches and Vonnie Holliday was there to recover it.
Ryan Longwell nailed a 38-yard field goal to put the Packers on the board.
The Cowboys answered with a 44-yard field goal as the final seconds ticked off the first-half.
Dallas moved the ball all the way to the Packer 16, but once again Warren fumbled, this time Tyrone Williams recovered the ball and returned it 17 yards to the Green Gold's 32-yard line.
The Packers were unable to capitalize on the turnover and were forced to punt. On the ensuing Cowboy possession, Garrett found Raghib Ismail at the Packer 30-yard line. Ismail slipped, but was not touched, he scrambled to his feet and scampered the remaining 30 yards for the touchdown. That was followed by a 47-yard field by Cunningham and the Packers were down 20-3.
The Packers answered that with a 9 play, 88 yard drive taking 3:47 off the clock, the drive culminating in a 28-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Freeman.
The defense would rise to the occasion forcing the Cowboys to punt.
The Packers, playing with a sense of urgency, economically moved the ball down the field and Longwell nailed a 31-yard field goal.
The Packers would recover the ensuing onside kick, but were not able to find the end zone.
The Packers try to get back to the .500 mark as they host the NFC Central leading Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field, kickoff is slated for noon.
