It came down to the last play once again for Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers (7-7) as they faced the Minnesota Vikings (8-6) in the Metrodome. Favre scrambled out of the pocket and threw to the end zone and three receivers. Unfortunately for the Green and Gold, Minnesota defensive back, Robert Griffith was there as well as he intercepted the pass ending the game, securing a 24-20 win for the Vikings.

The Packers were unable to contain wide receiver Randy Moss as he teamed with Jeff George for 5 catches and 131 yards including two touchdowns. Moss also had a 36-yard catch setting up Leroy Hoard's 1-yard touchdown run.

The game started in an ominous fashion. The Packers received the opening kickoff. Favre tried to throw the ball, but Chris Doleman hit him as he was throwing forcing a fumble. Dwayne Rudd recovered the miscue at the Packer 31-yard line. The Vikings were unable to move the ball, but seemed to be in field goal range until Keith McKenzie knocked the ball away from George. George would recover the fumble at the Viking 41 leading to a third-down and 50.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Vikings opened the scoring with a 43-yard field goal.

On the Packers' ensuing drive, Dorsey Levens returned to the line-up as he amassed 37 of his game high 99 yards rushing on the drive, including a 1-yard touchdown run capping the drive. Ryan Longwell tacked on the extra point giving the Packers a 7-2 lead.

Robert Tate returned the following kickoff from the 2-yard line to the 22-yard line before Basil Mitchell and Fred Vinson jarred the ball loose allowing De'Mond Parker to recover the ball giving the Packers possession at the 22-yard line.

Favre would hit Antonio Freeman in the left flat, and after a bone-jarring hit by Orlando Thomas, Freeman fumbled. The ball would bounce back to Freeman allowing the Packers to continue their drive. Longwell came on to nail a 26-yard field goal to give the Packers a 10-3 lead.

It didn't take long for the Vikings to respond. On third-and-1 on their own 43-yard line, Jeff George used playaction to his running back, and unloaded a deep pass to Moss for a 57-yard touchdown strike.

The Packers would move the ball deep into Viking territory. Earlier in the game, the Packers lost a replay challenge costing them a timeout. The lost timeout would come back to haunt the Packers in this situation. On second down Favre found William Henderson in the right flat. Tate tackled Henderson at the Viking 3-yard line. With the final seconds ticking off the clock, rather than passing to the end zone, Favre had to spike the ball to kill the clock. Longwell finished the dirve with a 22-yard field goal.

The Vikings opened the scoring in the second half, as George found Moss for a 1-yard score, giving Minnesota a 17-13 advantage.

The Packers were forced to punt on their ensuing drive. Louie Aguiar unleashed a 47-yard punt which Moss returned for 3 yards before Mitchell once again jarred the ball loose up in the air. Tod McBride caught the ball and somehow managed to remain in bounds giving the Packers good field position again.

Favre opened the drive with a 22-yard toss to Jeff Thomason. The special teams would come up with another big play as the field goal unit came on for a 27-yard field goal. Special teams coach, Steve Ortmayer called a fake field, and Hasselbeck found Thomason for a 9-yard touchdown pass. The Packers regained a 20-17 lead.

The Vikes answered with a 1-yard touchdown run by Leroy Hoard giving Minnesota a 24-20 lead they would not relinquish.

Coming into the game, Levens needed 18 yards to become the sixth Packer to accrue 5,000 yards rushing and receiving. Levens now has 3,398 yards rushing and 1,304 receiving.

Another milestone was met by Ryan Longwell. He broke Jan Stenerud's record for consecutive games scoring one or more points. Longwell also became the first Packer to score as many as 100 in three consecutive seasons.

Darren Sharper led the Packers defense with 7 tackles.

The Packers have a short week ahead of them following the Monday night game, as they travel to Tampa Bay for a Sunday match-up against the Buccaneers at 3 P.M.
