Green Bay vs. New York Jets - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay
Pre-Season - Packers Win 37-24
HEAD COACH MIKE SHERMAN POSTGAME COMMENTS:
overall impressions of the game: "It was very emotional for me to be out on the field with this team. But once we did begin the game, my focus was on the game and what was happening. I thought a lot of good things happened tonight and a lot of bad things happened."
more on tonight's game: "All in all, I'm somewhat pleased, somewhat disappointed, but I'm not discouraged. I think the things that were broken can be fixed."
on the running game: "We went into this game saying we had to run the football. I thought our offensive line absolutely dominated their front."
more on the running game: "I was very excited by Rondell Mealey, very excited by (Herbert) Goodman at the end of the game and obviously Ahman (Green) did a nice job."
on the quarterbacks: "I thought Matt Hasselbeck came in and did an excellent job, as did (Danny) Wuerffel -- I was pleased. Brett wasn't in there very long, but when he was in there he did what he was supposed to do."
on the defensive penalties: "Defensively, there were too many penalties for us to be successful. We had eight defensive penalties and you can't play like that and expect to win a football game."
on the defense: "I was proud of how the defense battled back -- they really did nice job in the second half."
on Matt Hasselbeck: "I'm very impressed with his leadership. I'm very impressed with his playmaking ability."
on the New York Jets: "This is a very good football team and I have the utmost respect for their staff. We played them in Seattle last year and they just kicked our butt up and down the field."
QUARTERBACK MATT HASSELBECK
on tonight's game: "I wasn't trying to force anything, just trying to take what the defense gave me, putting the ball into the guys, the athletes, putting the ball into their hands and letting them make the big plays."
on playing in the game: "I wasexcited to be out there on the field. It's a long season in the NFL, especially when you're standing on the sideline. It's fun to be out there during the preseason. People say what they want about the preseason, but this is my postseason."
on playing at Lambeau Field: "There's something about playing out there on that field, with these fans and the guys step up and make big plays."
on playing time: "My feeling is as long as this team is winning and we have a chance to go to the Super Bowl every year, I can live with not playing. But eventually, some day, I'd like to get my chance."
RUNNING BACK AHMAN GREEN
on his role on the team: "I'm just going to come in here and do whatever the coaches want me to do."
on tonight's game: "My teammates have seen what I can do during training camp, so my big thing was go get my confidence up."
CORNERBACK TOD McBRIDE
on interception return for touchdown: "I read a three-step drop from the quarterback, and, fortunately, the good Lord blessed me to be in the right place at the right time and allowed me to have my first 'Lambeau Leap.' "
on chasing down Dedric Ward from behind: "I was just trying to work hard. Ed Donatell, this defense - we're just trying to pride ourselves on effort. If everybody gets to the ball and works hard, we should do some big things this year."
RUNNING BACK RONDELL MEALEY
on his performance: "The offensive line did a great job tonight. We had some big holes all night. All I had to do was hit it, and make something happen. That's what I did tonight."
on his first 'Lambeau Leap': "I was kind of tired. It was hard for me to get up there, but once I did, it was great."
DEFENSIVE TACKLE STEVE WARREN
on his interception: "I wanted the sack that I missed just a couple plays before that. That's what I was thinking about all night. But they always say good things happen when you run to the ball. It was kind of like slow motion. I saw the ball get tipped, and it was right there, so I went and got it."
on being comfortable within the defense: "I was comfortable. The coaches really stressed learning the plays, so I was comfortable. The biggest thing I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing was be out there thinking when I was out there playing. When they gave the calls, I could just play and not think about what my responsibilities were."
on the team's performance: "I think the team went out there and competed hard. The first teams came in and played hard and left it up to the younger guys a little bit. I think it shows where a lot of the younger guys' hearts are at. We came back in the second half. We played hard, and kept in there strong, kept at it and brought out the game."
