Green Bay vs. New York Jets - Postgame Quotes - New York
Pre-Season - Packers Win 37-24
HEAD COACH AL GROH
overall impressions of the game: "This is a hard place to play. You have to play pretty well to win here. This is the second year in a row at this particular time we came up here, and obviously we weren't good enough to win at this place. We have to try to figure out some way to do it better when we come back up here in four weeks."
on whether he's concerned about his team's defensive play: "I certainly expected our defense to play a lot better tonight than what they did."
on what he was most disappointed with regarding his team's defensive play: "Thirty-seven points. That's it. There are a lot of guys who have to play better than they did tonight when we come back up here the next time."
QUARTERBACK VINNY TESTAVERDE
on how he played: "I'm just trying to get back into the groove and regain my (19) '98 form. I felt like I made some improvement tonight. I think I still have a little ways to go, along with our team. (The team) has to adjust to me, as well. I think we did a lot of good things, but there are a lot of things we have to correct."
on the loss: "I'm disappointed in the way that we lost. To come out here on the road knowing you're playing a very good opponent, and playing an opponent we're going to face in the regular season, and then make some mistakes toward the end of the game that really cost us."
on whether the Packers threw any wrinkles at the Jets: "No, I think they played pretty basic defense. They didn't want to tip their hand and show us what they might be doing during the regular season. And we did the same. We stayed pretty basic."
RUNNING BACK RICHIE ANDERSON
on the fact that both of his touchdown runs came up the middle: "It wasn't necessarily (by design). It was just the play-calling at the time. It wasn't necessarily something we wanted to attack. We were just trying to execute some plays. We did a good job of doing that, and that's how we got in the end zone."
QUARTERBACK CHAD PENNINGTON
on playing in his first professional game: "The bottom line is you come here to win football games. We didn't win tonight, but I'll try to learn from the situations that we were placed in. I thought the veteran players did a really good job of keeping me calm out there on the field and showing good leadership."
