Postgame Quotes - San Francisco

HEAD COACH STEVE MARIUCCI:
"We have some hurt feelings. This was very painful. Our guys were very close.

"I want to compliment the Packers and wish them good luck. They have a heckuva team.

"This was a game the fans expected - it came right down to the wire.

"The Packers play the Rams - I wish them the best.

"I told the team I am very, very proud of them. I just wish we were playing next week.

"There's more out there for this team.

"We had a fantastic year - our sights are set high.

"We are committed to being stronger, faster and more skillful.

"We already are looking forward to next season.

"Our guys will walk out of this locker room very proud.

"This was a heckuva game from start to finish. They (Packers) made a key play inside the 10-yard line. McKenzie got his hand on the ball - that's how it goes.

"We hoped to get the ball, put a drive together, but they controlled the clock.

"This is a game of inches. T.O. (Terrell Owens) could have made a touchdown on that play.

"The Packers were helped with (Gilbert) Brown back. He's big inside.

"The Packers made some first downs on that last drive; that ate up the clock.

"The Packers have a very capable passing offense. Brett can put it in there.

"We have to look at the instant replay procedure. On our challenge it was ruled an incomplete pass and we would not get the ball back. We need a way to get the ball back on those calls. We also need a quicker replay.

"Losses never feel good; they leave you with an empty feeling.

"This team has played so well, we had an exciting season, we came so close, we just wanted more. We wanted to be the first team to win a playoff game in Lambeau."

QUARTERBACK JEFF GARCIA:
"This is a game of inches. T.O. (Terrell Owens) had a step on (Mike) McKenzie. I saw the safety coming up, and tried to put it in there. That was a great play. Then they got the ball and put together a 95-yard TD. That was the play of the game. McKenzie reacted well after getting beat off the line.

"We had plenty of opportunities to take charge of the game. We just let it slip out of our hands.

"We didn't get many breaks, we had to take advantage of every opportunity we got.

"(Gilbert) Brown clogs up the middle - we had to put two linemen on him.

"They did a great job against the run. That forced us into a passing game in the second half. Maybe we should have done that sooner. We just couldn't control the line for our running game.

"We felt good at the half. We figured to make a lot of things happen, but two dropped pass hurt. You can't do that in the playoffs.

"We needed to stay step for step with them - we didn't do that. I have a huge empty feeling in me right now, but we had a great year. It took lots of hard work."
