Packers-Titans Post-Game Quotes
GM/HEAD COACH MIKE SHERMAN:
(on outcome of game) "I am very surprised at the hole we are in right now. We put ourselves there and hope we can get ourselves out."
(on how to keep team motivated) "This is unfamiliar territory for the Green Bay Packers, in quite some time. It's a new emotion that they are feeling on a consistent basis and it is important to be able to tell them that we can work through it if we do it together and everybody rolls up their sleeves. But it is going to take everybody, coaches and players alike. What happens if you are not careful is that guys start to splinter off and hopefully that will not be the case. I really believe in the character of the men in the locker room, they hurt, it bothers them, but I believe that they want to do something about it."
(on whether team was ready to play) "We had a good week of practice. Went out on the field eager to play the football game and get things right and I think we fully expected to win the football game. Not to take anything away from Tennessee they fully expected to win and they won it."
QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:
(on outcome of the game) "Words can't express the way I feel and have felt since we lost to Chicago. I just don't know what to say. I didn't expect this. I don't think anyone associated with this team, including the fans expected this, but this is the way it is at this point and hopefully we turn this thing around."
(on his confidence in the team) "Well if we play like we've played, not very good. But I know we are capable of playing better than what we have shown. It just depends on what team shows up. I am not concerned about our defense or special teams. I am concerned about out offense. That is all I can be concerned about. We have to score points. It is as simple as that and I am confident we can do that."
(on what the cause was for the lack of running game) "I don't know, I don't know about tonight. We fell behind right away and had to score points and so you can't run it."
(on making the playoffs) "We have to try and win a game first. Some how, some way and if I am correct we go to Detroit this week who obviously is playing well, and if we can't win one at home let's see if we can win one on the road."
GUARD MARCO RIVERA:
(on the running game) "The first run play, I think we started out with a blast and we had it pretty much blocked up. I'm not sure right now - I'll have to look at the tape - but I think a linebacker got through and hit Ahman (Green) in the back. After that, they just basically played their base defense. They didn't do anything new they didn't show before. What it comes down to is just getting it done. We have to sustain our blocks and push them around...It starts with the run with us, and we have to get back to that."
(on the turnover battle) "When you have turnovers, those are caused by you, by your offense. You can't gain momentum and turn the ball over; you can't set the tone and turn the ball over. That's been killing us. We try to get some kind of momentum and you have a turnover, and we have to go back on the sideline and put our defense back on the field, that's not fair to our defense."
(on the psyche of the team) "We're in a bad place right now. Since I've been a Green Bay Packer, I've never been 1-4. We haven't lost three home games in a row. It's a very dangerous time for us right now. The worst thing that could happen is for the team to split. I'm not going to let that happen. I'm going to do everything possible to help my teammates."
RUNNING BACK AHMAN GREEN:
(on losing four straight games) "It's part of the game, and it's tough to deal with. I hate losing on any level - playing cards with my kids - whatever it is, I hate losing. All we can do is dig ourselves out of it."
(on how much the team goals have been compromised) "None. It's still a long season. And we have to continue to look at what we are doing wrong and fix it."
(on areas that need improvement) "All we need to do is go out there and play football."
WIDE RECEIVER DONALD DRIVER:
(on the offensive production) "We still have turnovers and it is still costing us games. Sooner or later, we have to stop these turnovers."
(on if he could put this loss in perspective) "No. You have no words to tell how I feel right now."
(on where the team goes next) "Hell, I guess we can't go down any more. We already went down enough. It's time to go back up. Now we have to go on the road and hope we can pull out a victory."
CORNERBACK MICHAEL HAWTHORNE:
(on the few plays that can change a game) "It can just be a call. Or it can just be a person (being) an inch or two away. It's so many different things it could possibly be. And that's (true) for any team."
(on defensive miscues) "Sometimes it's great plays (by the offense). I know they had a hell of a running back. He got it up in there. I know they had a hell of a (offensive) line. That's what we emphasize: beat your person that is in front of you and make someone else help or change the direction...People can interrupt miscues as a person got beat on such and such, when it was actually a zone or vice versa. You can't exactly say it was a miscue unless you know the details of defense."
TITANS HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER:
(on winning in Lambeau Field) "To come into here and have a chance to win, you have to do a few things - you have to run the football and get turnovers and keep them off the field. The six turnovers was obviously the difference in the ball game."
(on the play of his safeties) "We needed that. (Lamont) Thompson and (Tank) Williams are two very athletic safeties, they are playmaking safeties. This was Lamont's first Monday Night game, so it was great for him to come up with two interceptions."
(on Chris Brown's long touchdown runs) "They were two different types of runs, one was a counter and one was a special cutback. He made people miss and we really blocked well, we blocked all the way to the safety. That is what you have to do."
QUARTERBACK STEVE MCNAIR:
(on executing plays) "We haven't executed like we should in the last two or three ballgames, so we wanted to come out and execute and not come out and get just three points. We wanted touchdowns and we got big plays."
(on the performance of Chris Brown) "Chris did well in the running game and the passing game. That is what we need out of Chris every week. He is doing a great job for us."
(on his team's fast start) "We knew we had to jump on them quick and stay on them because they have a magnificent quarterback that can come back from any deficit. So we wanted to continue to pound them, mix things up offensively and keep their defense on the field."
SAFETY LAMONT THOMPSON:
(on his team's defensive strategy) "Our main focus during the week was to stop the run and to force them to throw the ball. So once we stopped the run and once they had to throw we could sit back in the zone and read the quarterback. We also stressed turnovers all during the week and we did that tonight."
(on winning a Monday Night football game) "Whenever you get a chance to contribute to victory it definitely feels good no matter what night it is. The coaches put us in a position to make plays and we made the most of our opportunities."
(on getting back on track) "It feels really good. The last three weeks we haven't been playing Titans football and it just feels good to come out and play the ball we are capable of playing."
