Packers Post-Game Quotes
BRETT FAVRE, QUARTERBACK
On winning today's game
"I think it was important to get a win today. It gives us better morale heading into the playoffs. I don't see any pluses in not playing to win. We moved the ball well offensively and got some points on the board early. Mike (Sherman) and I talked about wanting to do some things early, which is something we had not done lately with slow starts in the past few games. It was nice to win and go into the playoffs on a winning note."
On his success against the Bears
"Where do I start? The Bears had our number for a while and still lead the series, so I guess what goes around comes around. Mike Holmgren used to say that the 'worm will turn', whatever that means. I think that
a quarterback's record is a ridiculous statistic because it is the team's record. We have been the better team most of the time that we have played the Bears over the past few years and part of that is that they have gone through finding the right coach and quarterback and had to go through that again when Rex (Grossman) went down."
On throwing for 4,000 yards for the fourth time in his career
"All it means is that I am still kicking. I never paid a lot of attention to stats, good or bad, and I have had my share of both. What is important to me is that I can still play at a high level. This team can always count on me to make plays to win. It is hard to get 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in one season, but what gives me more pride is the streak of over 200 consecutive games."
On Reggie White's death
"Reggie was a close friend of mine and I think I speak for everyone when I say that I was shocked to hear the news. I spoke with him a few days before he passed away. He had such remarkable locker room presence and was such a great team player. Not many can change a game the way he did. When he came to Green Bay, I had some growing to do and I learned a lot from him. He always said that there is no substitute for durability and accountability. I try to play like Reggie would play. He was a great example, both on the field and off, and will be missed. Guys throughout the league can pattern themselves after him."
AHMAN GREEN, RUNNING BACK
On today's game as preparation for the playoffs
"We got a few more reps today going into the playoffs next week. We had some guys who were hurt and came back to play today and did very well. We've got to continue to get ready for whoever we play next week and prepare for them. Today's win was a good way to start getting ready for the playoffs."
KABEER GBAJA-BIAMILA, DEFENSIVE END
On preparing for the playoffs
"We are going to have a great week of preparation this week to get ready for the playoffs. I felt like we played well today and got a good pass rush. We made some mistakes that we need to correct before next week, but it won't be the type of corrections that come after a loss. I was glad to play the entire game and be able to do some things."
On the team's nine sacks today
"It is awesome that we were able to have that many sacks and get that kind of pass rush. It gives us a lot of confidence heading into next week. You need that mental edge and we know we can do some things and will take that into the playoffs."
On his three sacks today and double-digit season total
"It felt good to have three sacks. With another season over 10, I have established that I am consistent. I wouldn't have been able to do it without great coaching. That helped me a lot. They coach me well and get me into the right spots to make plays."
DARREN SHARPER, SAFETY
On remembering Reggie White
"By honoring him with the helmet sticker with his number, it gave me an extra sense of how we need to play. Reggie would say that we do not need to honor his jersey, we need to honor our own jerseys and make a
name for ourselves. We used that as motivation to go out and play the way he played the game. We need to play the rest of the season with the mentality that every play is a big play. He always found a way to step up and make things happen. I want to be able to do that and continue to honor him."
Chicago Bears Post-Game Quotes
Chad Hutchinson, QB
On the prospect of returning next year
"That's the GM's decision and the head coach's decision. I don't make that call."
On the interception by Darren Sharper
"I thought I had (Bobby) Wade open. He (Sharper) jumped inside and picked it off."
On what he can take away from the last five games
"Every time you play, you learn. Just understanding what to do in certain circumstances, which you can only simulate in games. I came in late and it's tough when you come in after the starting quarterback gets hurt. I just tried to be myself out there. I love being a quarterback and part of being a quarterback is leadership and I love that. I hope I was a leader for this team, but being a leader takes times and being around the guys."
On his off-season plans
"I plan to continue to get better, train, stay in shape, work with (Bobby) Wade and continue to progress."
On the play of the Bears' offensive line
"I just told them to keep battling. They were battling hard for me and that's all you can ask. I asked them for 110 percent and they gave it. Any successful offense starts up front at the offensive line and we had a lot of injuries up there. A lot of guys had to step up and fill roles that they hadn't been in. They battled hard and got great experience."
On his general thoughts of returning to the NFL after a stint away from the game
"It's good to be around the people that have the attitudes and good character that this team has, both the coaches and players. I love coming to work everyday and this was a real treat for me. I'm a firm believer that it's just a couple steps away for us, because the character and the talent is here. It's just a matter of putting it all together.
On what Lovie Smith told the team after the game
"He (Smith) just told us to remember the moment. Make sure it's going to be different next year, because this isn't going to happen again."
Bobby Wade, WR
On the performance of the wide receivers this season
"I think we should have had more opportunities to help, but that's just the way the season went. A consistent quarterback would have definitely helped, but even then, just opportunities would be good."
On the effect of Rex Grossman's injury earlier in the year
"That was a huge momentum swing right there. Obviously, being focused on training a quarterback to come in and be your go-to guy. And, then when he goes down, it hurts."
On the Bears' youth
"That's pretty much what we're leaning on for next year; the fact that we're a young team and will have opportunities next year and in the future."
Charles Tillman, CB
On what the Bears need to do in the off-season
"We definitely need to work things out as a team; just starting over by getting the fundamentals down. We're looking forward to working hard in the off-season and turning this thing around."
Alex Brown, DE
On how the team needs to improve
"We've got to come back and play well next year. Everyone needs to raise their level of play, get better, get faster, get stronger. We've got to get more consistency, come together as a group and we'll be OK."
On the team's record not speaking well for the way the defense played
"We have to learn in the off-season to be more consistent at getting turnovers, causing big plays, more three and outs, more sacks. We have our work cut out for us. We've definitely got room to improve and we have to improve as a defense in order for us to be a better team."
Lance Briggs, LB
On today's game
"It was one of those days and we happened to have a lot of those days this year. One thing you can say is that this is a wrap on the 2004 season. From here on out, we look forward to 2005."
On the areas the defense needs to improve
"It was a new scheme for us this year and I thought we did a decent job. We fought hard. Next year, we'll just fine tune everything. We gave up some big plays and a lot of their yards came off four or five plays alone. So, we eliminate the big plays next year, then we'll be in better shape."
Olin Kreutz, C
On this season
"Every year, I work as hard as I can. And there's no year that you expect to go like this and no year you're just saying 'You know, we're gonna suck.' Every year you work hard and play as hard as you can. We didn't get things done this year so next year when we come back in, we'll watch this film and try to get better."
On whether it will be easier next year in year two with a new staff
"It always is once you learn all the ins and outs of the system. Does that transfer to success? No. I don't know if it will. I don't know if it won't. But, it's a lot easier when you know the system."
On how a game like today motivates him for next year
"Every year, I am motivated. I don't use one game for motivation. This game was embarrassing for us. They took it to us today. But, next year is a whole 'nother year."
