Packers-Bengals Post Game Quotes
Green Bay Packers
A.J. HAWK
Your thoughts on tonight's game and the next game verse Chicago on Friday?
"With our next game Friday, we need to prepare and not let this type of outcome happen again. We are definitely going to clean things up and come out Friday ready to play. We will take this as a learning experience and make sure this doesn't happen again."
How does it feel coming home to Cincinnati and playing in front of your hometown crowd?
"It was good. I got to play here my freshman year in college at Ohio State. It is a great place to play. I don't know what our future schedule looks like, but we will see what happens in the next couple years. It means a lot to come home. I wish the outcome had been better. Every day here is a learning process."
What are the major differences of playing professional football vs. college?
"It is not too different. Coming into a new system is difficult. Every day, you learn something new. It is a learning process and I work closely with the older players. I am learning how to be a pro. We have many talented veteran players. They are showing me the way and I am working on following their lead."
What is it like playing with a veteran like Brett Favre?
"He is a class guy and treats everyone with the same respect. I have a lot of respect for his game and the type of person he is. He is one of the best to ever play his position, and he carries himself that way. It is an honor to be on the same team as him, and to see him out there."
Are you satisfied with where you are at as a professional football player at this point the season?
"No. I don't think you are ever satisfied. We need to take some of the positive things we did tonight and carry them into our final preseason game."

Cincinnati Bengals
MARVIN LEWIS
Initial comments...
"I'm pleased with the performance tonight. I think we went out and did some good things in all three phases. Obviously, Carson (Palmer) got out there tonight and played very efficiently and timely, and he did all the things during the game that you would like to see him do. He went out and handled it very well. I thought our football team was excited about playing, and it was fun. It was a great atmosphere. The fans were great, and our guys went out and played well. They did a fine job of taking care of the football offensively and getting some turnovers on defense. On both sides of the football, particularly after the first third downs, we did a good job. We won third downs, and I think that's key. When you do those things in a football game, you're going to be successful."
Were you a little nervous when Palmer took off on his 11-yard run?
"No. He runs everyday in practice. What's the difference?"
Was there any apprehension when he was hit?
"No. Why would there be apprehension? ... The only time he gets hit is during a game. This is inevitable. There isn't an NFL quarterback that gets touched in practice. So, what's the difference? At some point you're going to be touched on the football field."
How did you think his passes looked?
"I thought he did a good job."
Will he play the season opener?
"He'll start against Kansas City."
Will he play in Indianapolis?
"I'll make that decision later."
Safety Dexter Jackson has had two defensive touchdowns. He's doing everything you want in that strong safety, isn't he?
"He has come in and done exactly what we've hoped he would be able to do. He keeps making plays and he has the guys playing together. He's up-lifting us. He's completely what we're looking for."
Safety Madieu Williams had an INT that led to a field goal. So, your two safeties put 10 points on the board before you recorded a first down...
"Both guys have continued to have a good training camp. They came up with some plays tonight. He (Williams) has done a nice job. He has elevated himself and understands where he needs to be. He's really playing well."
Do you think the team has progressed to where you want them to be after this third preseason game?
"These are preseason games. The regular season is a different story. We have to just keep working. We'll keep working and keep grinding and preparing ourselves to get better. We continue to improve. Again, our specialists did a fine job tonight - Kyle (Larson) punting the ball, and Shayne (Graham) kicking the ball. We continue improving in those areas. Our coverage was good. We just have to keep working. The guys have done a nice job handling this preseason schedule. They've dealt with Sunday night, then Friday, then a long week, and then Monday, and now this Friday. So, they've handled it."
Will you be making cuts tomorrow?
"Yes. We have to be down to 75 by 4 p.m. tomorrow."
What about LB David Pollack?
"His hamstring is just sore still. So, he's trying to play, maybe too much too soon. We just want to make sure he doesn't overdo it. It's good for him to get a few snaps in."
Are you expecting good things from DE Robert Geathers this year?
"Robert (Geathers) has continued to play, and play well. He's made some big plays for us. He keeps getting better, and he gives us a fine rusher."
CARSON PALMER
How did you feel?
"It felt good. My knee feels great. I took a couple shots on it, put a lot of pressure on it and a couple guys put their weight on it. They hit me couple times. It felt strong like we expected. I'm confident in it. I'm ready to roll on and move on from here."
Was there any single play more than any other that made you feel good?
"No. It just felt good to be out there and not have to worry about it and not have to think about it. I was out there reacting - not looking at the defensive line - looking down field, and making my reads, moving around a little bit, in and outside the pocket. I really didn't think about it much, and that's what I wanted to get to. I wanted to get to the point before I got on the field where I'm not ever thinking about my knee - where instead I'm thinking about what the defense is doing."
That 11-yard run ... is that proof you're not thinking about your knee?
"I have 100 percent confidence in my knee. I feel confident getting outside the pocket, making some plays, having to get tackled and getting hit inside the pocket. I have 100 percent confidence in my knee."
Did you answer any questions of yourself?
"Not really. I was confident coming into the game. The doctors gave me the OK - (they said) that this was going to be the time that my knee was strong enough to go out there and do what I do, move around and get hit on it. I really wasn't concerned too much about that. I was very confident coming in that I was 100 percent and ready to play."
Did this go well for you?
"A little bit, but not quite what I expected. I was able to go out there and just focus on what the defense was doing, getting us into a couple no-huddle situations, and getting into third-down situations. I felt good. I felt like it was just football again."
Could this have reasonably gone any better?
"Yeah. You can always play better. I missed a couple checks, missed a couple throws and wasn't as accurate as I wanted to be on a couple of passes. I definitely have a long way to go to get where I need to be. Hopefully, I'll get a shot to play this upcoming week (Friday at Indianapolis) and be ready for the opener."
Did Brett Favre say anything to you?
"No."
Where would you gauge where you are now to where you were last year?
"I'm still a ways away. My technique and some of the fundamentals aren't quite there yet. But they're coming. Slowly and surely, they're coming. The more reps I get - the more times I get certain drops and certain plays in practice - and then get a chance to do it in a game gets me back to where I need to be. But I'm still not there yet."
RUDI JOHNSON
How impressive was Bengals QB Carson Palmer?
"He did a great job. He came in and did everything that we expected him to do. He led the offense up and down the field, and put points on the board. He also protected the football."
What kind of an emotional lift was it for the offense to have him out there?
"It was big time. It was his first game back. It was exciting for everyone - not only for the team, but for the fans and the city. For him to come out and do the things that he did shows how hard he worked during the offseason to get his knee back to where it is today."
How do you feel about your performance?
"I felt good. The offense was rolling on all cylinders. We did a great job, and the defense did a great job of giving us the football back, which we took advantage of."
SAM ADAMS
The defense keeps producing turnovers. Can you comment on that?
"That is one thing that we can do. But, you have to continue to do that week in and week out."
Your signature is your quick first step. Do you expect it to get better as the season goes on?
"As the season goes on - and the more reps I get against an opposing offense for a longer period of time - it will get better."
CHAD JOHNSON
How was it having Carson Palmer back there?
"I knew he would do his thing. He came out and showed what he could do. I'm sure he answered all the critics' questions and all the doubts that everyone had in their minds. We scored 34 in the first half. That is ridiculous. Imagine if we had the first team play the entire game. I need not say anymore."
What were you saying to the Green Bay guys at the line of scrimmage?
"I was talking trash. Whether I was getting the ball or not, I was enjoying myself. I was just doing what I do best."
What kind of message do you think you sent about your offense?
"We are picking up from where we left off last year. Some say that what we did last year really doesn't matter anymore, but we are picking up from right where we left off last year."

Packers 1st Half Quotes:
LB Nick Barnett
(general)
"It was good to see a no-huddle offense. That's something we need to prepare for so it was good to see that look in the preseason. We had a lot of mental mistakes tonight and we need to be able to play through a no-huddle like that when you’re out of air."
(on Carson Palmer)
"He’s doing real well. He’s making a lot of plays, but we’re giving him some plays, too. I think if we just bear down and play our defense, we’ll fare a lot better."
