Packers Game Notes:
TEAM
-On 17 of opponents' last 25 possessions, the Packers defense has forced either a punt or turnover (15 punts, two takeaways). Three of those 25 drives were ended by the clock.
-Tony Moll played much of the second half in place of an injured Mark Tauscher (groin). Moll, whose natural position is right tackle, could start for Tauscher Sunday vs. New England. If so, including guards Daryn Colledge and Jason Spitz, the Packers are expected to start three rookie offensive linemen for the second time this year (also at Miami, Oct. 22, when left tackle Chad Clifton was sick). The last NFL team to start three rookies on its offensive line in multiple games was the 2003 N.Y. Giants, who did it twice. In research dating to the 1970 merger, the Packers had never started three in a game before Oct. 22.
-The Packers now have orchestrated eight touchdown drives of at least 80 yards. Opponents, by comparison, have three. Green Bay's 97-yard drive to close the first half was its longest since a 98-yard march vs. Tennessee, Oct. 11, 2004.
-Green Bay now is 2-0 this season in games without a giveaway, including Sunday at Minnesota. Over a longer stretch, the team has won 23 of its last 24 games playing turnover-free football, since a loss at Minnesota, Dec. 1, 1997. Green Bay's only loss in such games during that stretch was a 23-20 setback at Minnesota, Oct. 23, 2005. Including playoffs, the Packers have won 26 of their last 27.
-Including Sunday, the Packers now are 42-4 (.913) since 2000 when committing one turnover or less; that's the NFL's best mark.
-The Packers now have reached 300 net passing yards (gross yards minus those lost on sacks) on three occasions this year. Only 11 previous offenses in Packers history have reached the landmark at least three times in a season. The club record is six (three times, in 1983, 1989 and 2004).
-The Packers have generated 810 yards of total offense over their last two games. The last time the team strung together more yards in consecutive outings was the end of the 2004 season (847 at Minnesota and Chicago).
-The Packers now are 3-1 this season with a halftime lead. With an advantage at intermission, Brett Favre during his streak is 110-24 (.821) and 45-17 (.726) in road games.
-Including twice Sunday and five times this year, opponents have been unsuccessful on each of their last 12 challenges, a streak that began Dec. 19, 2004, when Jacksonville's Jack Del Rio challenged a play in which Darren Sharper - then with Green Bay - returned a Byron Leftwich fumble 15 yards for a touchdown. Opponent head coaches in 2005 were 0-for-6 on instant-replay challenges, and are now 1-for-their-last-13 dating to 2004. Steve Mariucci - then with Detroit - was the last coach to successfully challenge a call, taking an interception and touchdown away from Sharper, Dec. 12, 2004, at Lambeau Field.
-On the road, the Packers now are 3-2. Only two NFC clubs own a better mark away from home: Chicago (4-0) and the N.Y. Giants (3-1).
-After registering four sacks on defense and allowing none on offense, the Packers increased their sacks ratio to plus-20 (31 sacks, 11 allowed).
INDIVIDUAL
-Brett Favre on the 82-yard score reached 198 career TD passes in road games, breaking the NFL record previously held by Dan Marino (197).
-Favre on the 10-play fourth-quarter drive that melted the clock and put the game out of reach was 6-for-8 for 69 yards.
-Favre (347) threw for his most yards in nearly two years, since he had 365 at Minnesota, Dec. 24, 2004.
-Favre has just two INTs over his last five games. The last five-game stretch in which he had two-or-fewer picks was Oct. 7-Nov. 10, 2002, when he threw just one. Favre this season is on pace to throw a career-low 12.4 interceptions.
-Favre's 82-yard touchdown pass to Donald Driver was the team's longest passing play since Favre hit Driver for an 84-yard touchdown, Nov. 17, 2002, at Minnesota. It also was the fifth-longest of Favre's career, a list that includes Driver three times (also 85 at Chicago in 2002). The quarterback tied an NFL record with a 99-yard pass to Robert Brooks at Chicago in 1995. Three years later, he hit Antonio Freeman for an 84-yard score vs. Detroit, in 1998.
-In games when Favre compiles at least a 100.0 rating, the Packers are 72-7 (.911) and 3-0 this year. They're 40-0 at home (1.000) and 32-7 (.821) on the road.
-Counting all recorded consecutive-starts streaks in NFL history, Favre surpassed No. 3 Bruce Matthews (229, 1987-2001).
-Favre has 49 career touchdown passes against the Vikings. Most TD passes vs. one team, NFL history:
72 Dan Marino, Mia. - NYJ - 1983-99
54 Dan Marino, Mia. - Ind/BalC - 1983-99
51 Brett Favre, GB - ChiB - 1992-2006
50 Dan Marino, Mia. - Buf - 1983-99
49 Brett Favre, GB - Min - 1992-2006
49 Brett Favre, GB - Det - 1992-2006
-Donald Driver's 31.8-yard average per reception was the highest figure by a Packers receiver during Brett Favre's 230-game starting streak (minimum three receptions, since Sept. 27, 1992). The previous high was 31.0, by Javon Walker at Oakland, Dec. 22, 2003.
-Driver established his single-game career high with 191 receiving yards. His previous best was 162, at Minnesota, Dec. 24, 2004 (11 receptions).
-That 82-yard reception was the third-longest of Driver's career (all TDs):
85t at Chicago, Oct. 7, 2002 (in Champaign, Ill.)
84 at Minnesota, Nov. 17, 2002
82 at Minnesota, Nov. 12, 2006
-In seven career games at the Metrodome, Driver now has 33 receptions, 637 yards (19.3 avg.) and four touchdowns, his highest totals in each category at a single stadium other than Lambeau Field (he also has four TDs at Ford Field). Plus, Driver has a career-long 45-yard run in Minneapolis.
-The 82-yard play gave Driver 30 career TD receptions from Brett Favre, surpassing the No. 7 combination on the team's all-time list, Arnie Herber-Don Hutson (29). The Favre-Driver duo needs two more to tie No. 5 Lynn Dickey-James Lofton and Favre-Robert Brooks (both 32).
-Donald Driver now has a reception in 73 consecutive games, the franchise's second-longest streak behind Sharpe's 103 (1988-94).
-Brady Poppinga recorded his third career sack, forcing a Brad Johnson fumble in the first quarter to set up a touchdown. Two of his three career sacks have come in the building. He also recorded his first career sack, at Minnesota, Oct. 23, 2005 (Daunte Culpepper). His other sack was at Philadelphia, Nov. 27, 2005 (RB Brian Westbrook).
-Rob Davis played in his 144th consecutive game and tied No. 6 Ryan Longwell (1997-2005) on the team's list of longest games-played streaks.
-William Henderson, who tied No. 5 LeRoy Butler (181) on the team's all-time list of overall games played, had six receptions, his most since his career-high, eight, at Tampa Bay, Dec. 7, 1998.
-Patrick Dendy recorded his first career INT. The Packers capitalized on the fourth-quarter takeaway and drove for a field goal that put the game out of reach.
-Kicker Dave Rayner now has 10 touchbacks this year, most by a Packers player since Ryan Longwell had 11 in 1997. His lone touchback Sunday came after Driver's 82-yard touchdown and kept Minnesota from gaining any momentum headed into halftime.
-The Packers won the coin toss and elected to receive.
