PACKERS-LIONS POST-GAME NOTES & QUOTES
-Green Bay's six sacks were its most in a game since the Packers tied their team record with nine, Jan. 1, 2005, at Chicago in the '04 season finale.
-The Packers turned the ball over four times, but their defense held Detroit to just three points off those turnovers. Other than that field goal, the Packers forced two Lions punts and an interception.
-Brett Favre improved to 16-0, including a 1994 playoff win, at home against the Detroit Lions. The last time Green Bay lost in Wisconsin to Detroit was Dec. 15, 1991.
-In the third quarter, Charles Woodson recorded his sixth interception this year to establish a single-season career high. He had five INTs as a rookie in 1998 with Oakland. His six INTs are the most by a Packers player since Darren Sharper had seven in 2002. What's more, his 21 passes defensed this season have tied his 1998 career high. He had 21 combined passes defensed from 2003-05 with Oakland.
-With a 21-yard pass to Carlyle Holiday late in the first half, Brett Favre became the NFL's all-time leader in pass completions. Favre surpassed Dan Marino, the previous record holder, who had 4,967 during his career (1983-99). Favre now has 4,974.
-By securing a critical 12-yard reception in the fourth quarter, Donald Driver reached 80 catches and joined Sterling Sharpe (4) as one of two Packers ever with as many as three 80-catch seasons. Driver now has three such seasons.
-Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila did not start for the first time since Oct. 31, 2004, at Washington, where Cullen Jenkins also started at right defensive end. In an effort to keep Gbaja-Biamila fresher and improve their pass rush and run defense, the Packers began last week playing Jenkins more on early downs, and today ended Gbaja-Biamila's 37-game starting streak, fourth-longest on the team.
Longest active games-started streaks, Packers uniform, including today:
Brett Favre - 235
Al Harris - 62
Aaron Kampman - 56
-By the end of the first quarter, Jenkins had established a single-game career high with two sacks. With his second sack today, he also reached a single-season career high, surpassing the 4 1/2 he had in 2004. With a third sack, during the second quarter, he became the third Green Bay player to record three sacks in a game this year (also Aaron Kampman and Corey Williams). Never before have the Packers had as many as three players have three-sack games in the same season. Jenkins also recovered a fumble in an unbelievable first half.
-Gbaja-Biamila, a fifth-round draft pick in 2000, played in his 100th NFL game. Gbaja-Biamila was released at the end of his rookie training camp, then re-signed to the practice squad and eventually elevated to the active roster later that year.
-With a third-quarter burst, Ahman Green became the second player in team history to reach 8,000 rushing yards. Pro Hall of Famer Jim Taylor (8,207) is the other.
-Green entered the day needing to average 79.3 yards per game over the last three contests to surpass Taylor's franchise-record 8,207 career rushing yards. Green had 79, and now needs 159 - or 79.5 per contest - over the final two games. He ended the day with 8,049 rushing yards in a Packers uniform.
-Green has not fumbled since Sept. 24 at Detroit. Including 29 today, Green has gone 189 touches without a fumble (167 carries, 21 receptions, one fumble recovery).
-Vernand Morency turned in a career-best two touchdown carries. He had two total during his two-year career entering the game, both in 2005 with Houston.
-The Packers threw two INTs in the red zone today. Green Bay now has turned the ball over 10 times this year in the red zone, and six times in the opponent end zone.
-Donald Driver now has a reception in 78 consecutive games, extending the franchise's second-longest streak behind Sterling Sharpe's 103 (1988-94).
- Weather at kickoff: partly cloudy, 40 degrees.
- The Lions won the coin toss and elected to receive.
-Today's paid attendance was 70,472.

HEAD COACH MIKE MCCARTHY:
(on this past week's practice and poor first half play) "I thought our opponent squads did a great job giving us the shifts and motions. We didn't have alignment issues. Our issues were execution. You talk about our defense; we looked like we had no pass rush. We looked like we were playing in mud. Chad Pennington was just out there playing pitch and catch with his receivers."
(on if he thinks the younger players were quitting on the team) "I didn't see quit. I saw poor performance. I saw people in bad positions. I saw people playing bad technique. You know, not moving their feet, not sustaining blocks, not getting off blocks. We had two mental errors on the first damn series in pass protection. That's what I see."
(on what he said to the team at halftime) "I just talked to them about the reality where we were at at halftime, the reality of what went on in the first half. I wasn't really interested in a bunch of emotional screaming and yelling. I just addressed it point blank: what happened, how I felt about what happened, and the direction that we were going to go in the second half."
(on what he thought of fans booing at the end of the first half) "Hell, I would have been booing too. I mean, shoot, they should boo us. I didn't have a problem with that. This is a man's league, it's a man's business, a man's game, and you can't perform like that."
(on what he thought of Ahman Green's play today) "I've been very pleased with him. He's clearly part of the solution around here. That man just needs more opportunities."
(on defensive play of Al Harris against Roy Williams) "To take their top weapon on offense and shut him down - and the interception that ignited us - I thought that his performance was awesome, among others on defense. We had a bunch of individual performances that really stood out, and Al's was definitely one of them."
(on the play of Cullen Jenkins) "Outstanding ... He's really taking full advantage of his opportunities, particularly the last two weeks. I'm very happy with the production we're getting from Cullen.
"He's a problem. If you look at the way he plays inside, he's so active, particularly in the pass rush. He has a great motor. He's instinctive. Now, you put him outside, he's a problem for the tight end."
(on the play of Vernand Morency) "He has the innate ability to make people miss, especially on the second level. He's done that two weeks in a row that resulted in big runs for us. Everybody keeps calling him a change-of-pace back. He's a pretty good running back, and he takes full advantage of the opportunity he's given week in and week out. He's a very productive player for us, also, on special teams."
(on short week and Thursday's game against Minnesota) "It's a challenge, but, they have to do it, too ... You have to kind of find a common ground between getting the players' bodies back and also having enough time to prepare schematically for the game. Fundamentally, you really have to rely on the past, you know, your past week's preparation with Detroit. Minnesota has very similar schemes, particularly on defense. We'll have some carry over. We prepared for that this week."
QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:
(on his thoughts on breaking Dan Marino's completion record) "I'm more pleased that we won. Ed Hochuli congratulated me out there, and I told him, 'I have no idea what you're congratulating me for, but thank you.' So I did know, because of him. I'm more concerned about the three I completed to their team and the fact that we won. That's where I'm most concerned about it. I'm thankful I've had a chance to play this long, and (to) have an opportunity to break a record that's been held by a guy like Dan Marino is quite an honor, but I'm more pleased that we won the game."
(on what he thinks about the team being in the Wild Card hunt) "For us to be thinking playoffs - and I heard that there has been playoff talk - I mean, we got a long ways to go. I'm pleased we won the game, but if we think we can get into the playoffs playing like that...I'm just calling it like I see it. I'm as much to blame as anyone. I'm pleased we won, but I'm also frustrated that we left a lot out there, and I have no idea what those reasons are."
(on the interception he threw in the end zone) "I just tried to force it. I wish I could give you something else or blame someone else, but he was covered. I tried to look off the middle backer. I knew it was third-and-goal, and I knew exactly what coverage they were playing. It was really the same coverage they played earlier on the one that I threw to David (Martin) in the other end zone that he had a chance to catch. It was the same coverage, they just reacted differently. I just forced it, and it was a bad decision."
(on how he feels about the short week) "I'm ready to play now. I'm ready to get something going offensively. I'm thankful we play it on Thursday. We can play it tomorrow if they want to. I got no problems with that."
(on his thoughts on Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna) "I've always admired Jon, (and) most people think, 'Why?.' He's a hell of a competitor. He's kinda been bounced around from team to team. (He) had a great game against us on Monday night when he was with Seattle here years ago. He's always kinda been the other guy. I think - from a statistics standpoint, like today, nothing to write home about - but I've watched a lot of those guys - Detroit - on film this year offensively, and he gets up, he battles, he always says the right things, always carries himself in a professional way, and I admire that. We need more guys in this league like that. He keeps battling. That's what I told him, 'You keep battling and you're doing and saying the right things, and in the end, that'll be the most important thing.' "
DEFENSIVE END CULLEN JENKINS:
(on how it felt having three sacks and a fumble recovery at Lambeau) "It was great. Corey (Williams) and I were actually talking earlier about all the sacks we've had this year, we haven't had many sacks at home. It was nice to go out and finally do something in front of the home crowd and have a big game like that, and get the win, it's just great."
(on if it's more gratifying having a big day from the defensive end spot) "It feels good to know I can go out there and step up and play and contribute to the team, either from the end or inside. It feels pretty good to be able to do that."
(on how to keep the momentum going into the Thursday night game) "I think we just have to carry over the intensity. We're coming off of two wins now. We just can't be satisfied, we still have a long shot for the playoffs, so we just have to use that for our motivation."
CORNERBACK CHARLES WOODSON:
(on how it feels to have a great defensive performance at home) "It's good. It's one thing we've been kind of harping on the last few weeks, trying to get a win at home. We haven't done a good job of winning at home. It's a nice feeling for us."
(on what they're going to do to prepare for the next home game) "We're going to continue to work. We have to continue to work. But everybody has to stay focused, that's basically it."
CORNERBACK AL HARRIS:
(on shutting down Roy Williams) "It is what it is. Roy's a great competitor and we'll have many more battles to come."
(on how they can keep the momentum going this season) "Win. We just have to win. We have to figure out ways to come out of games with wins."
WIDE RECEIVER CARLYLE HOLIDAY:
(on how it feels being a part of the NFL history books) "It's amazing really. Two weeks ago I was in Arizona, now I'm here catching passes from Brett Favre. So it's exciting overall."
SAFETY NICK COLLINS:
(on the defense being the key factor in winning the game) "Everybody won, it's just not the defense. Offense did their part, we did our part and it worked out for us today."
(on keeping the Lions out of the end zone) "Oh yes, that's our main focus, to go out there and keep them out of the end zone, to keep them to a field goal. We did that the whole day, had some great interceptions by the guys and it was a great day for us on defense."
DEFENSIVE TACKLE COREY WILLIAMS:
(on the defense starting to cause a lot of turnovers) "We're doing a better job up front as far as getting pressure on the quarterback and the corners are doing a great job of holding their man. Like I said, it all plays into a team thing. When it comes to a whole, that's when you play great defense."
(on still being alive for the playoffs) "We feel great about it. We just got to focus on winning these next two games. That's our main focus right now, winning these next two games. And then whatever happens, happens."
RUNNING BACK VERNAND MORENCY:
(on scoring two touchdowns) "It felt great. The offensive line did a great job. Brett Favre had the right checks and the coaches called the right plays. And you can't have long runs without the receivers blocking downfield, they did a great job."
(on keeping the winning streak going into Thursday's game) "Right now we're still on the high from this game. But we'll watch the film and make sure our bodies are healthy and go out there and compete on Thursday."

DETROIT LIONS
HEAD COACH ROD MARINELLI:
(on his defense) "Getting four turnovers was a positive today. We felt going in to this game that we would have a great opportunity to do that."
(on not being able to convert turnovers into points) "That was disappointing. That is why you go out and get turnovers so that you can shorten the field for the offense. You need to execute plays. The energy and effort was there; the execution was not."
(on Brett Favre breaking Dan Marino's completion record) "To me he is not about numbers, it's what is in his heart. He has three rookie offensive linemen and somehow they all rally around him. He has great, great leadership - that's what I see."
QUARTERBACK JON KITNA:
(on not being able to get wide receiver Roy Williams involved in the game) "They played right in his face with a safety over the top for most of the game and they were helping, and switching up the looks on him. What Al Harris does best is press guys at the line. We weren't able to hold the ball long enough to get plays down the field."
(on playing without running back Kevin Jones) "Anytime you lose one of your top players, it is going to hurt. We just weren't able to make enough plays today."
(on his pass protection) "There were times where I did have enough time to throw, and I should have made more things happen when I did."
CORNERBACK JAMAR FLETCHER:
(on his second quarter interception) "We were in a zone coverage down in the red zone and they brought the backs out of the backfield and crossed them. Favre threw a pass to Ahman (Green) and I don't know if it was kind of behind him or a little bit above him, but he tipped it a little bit and I was able to get a good break on it and come up with a pick."
(on limiting Green Bay's offense) "We came out and played ball. When you have the attitude that you are going to come out from the first snap and play four quarters hard, that is usually what happens. Our main thing is to come out and play every snap one snap at a time."
