PACKERS-BENGALS POSTGAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY:
(on Aaron Rodgers performance) "I thought Aaron did a number of solid things. There was a lot of productivity on offense. I didn't like the start of the whole offense as a unit on the first series with a false start. We had a mental error that resulted in a sack and we had a dropped ball for an interception. But other than that, I liked the tempo. I thought the productivity was there. I thought Aaron did a good job with the mechanical part of the game. I thought he threw the ball off his back foot with accuracy. I liked his decisiveness, I thought he put together a good performance for us to build off of. Now there's going to be things I'm sure tomorrow, as there always is - it's a preseason game number one - but we'll correct it accordingly and build on the positive and fix the things that need to be corrected."
(on the quarterback group) "I would think it's a starting point for both of our rookies. We knew coming into the preseason that we had a lot of work to do there. There are going to be things from my vantage point that Brian (Brohm) did some really good things from the game. And we'll build off of that. He was in a bad spot there on his first play of the game with the interception. The route progression wasn't what it was supposed to be and that's something where you have to have the discipline to move on to the next receiver. He will definitely learn from that situation. But once again, the productivity was there. Was it clean? No, it wasn't clean, but there's a number of factors going on. We'll get that cleaned up and I think it was a very good first solid first step for the whole quarterback position."
QUARTERBACK AARON RODGERS:
(on his performance) "I think it went pretty well. I did some good things out there, made some plays. The receivers did a great job. James (Jones) had a fantastic catch, Donald (Driver) breaking tackles and I think the line protected, for the most part very well. There were some mistakes out there. We've got to clean them up and hopefully get better for Saturday."
(on his feelings about the TD pass) "It felt great. It's nice when you throw not a great pass and you've got a guy who can catch it, break two tackles, lose the helmet and score a touchdown."
(on the fans' reaction to him and the team) "It was a good night. The reception from the fans, the signs I saw in the stands were very positive and encouraging."
"I've always felt like we've got the best fans in the NFL and that they would support our team regardless of how they feel about myself or Brett (Favre) or management or whatever. It was a great reception when we took the field and when we scored the touchdown. The fans were in it the whole game and it feels great to be able to look up in the stands and see the support and the signs and stuff. It definitely means a lot to you."
(on whether this felt like more than an exhibition with the recent heightened scrutiny) "It definitely had a different atmosphere. We had 70,000 fans, couldn't get the camera out of my face in pregame. It was all over me. It definitely had a different feel, but we prepared the same way (as any other game)."
(on how much he coached Brohm and Flynn) "I was into the game the whole time. I had my earpiece in and I was talking to both Brian and Matt on the sidelines and knew what the plays were. When they came off I was helping them out them out when they looked at the pictures, giving them one or two things to think about."
RUNNING BACK BRANDON JACKSON:
(on the first team offense moving the ball well against the Bengals first team defense) "We did good, tried to get off to a fast start. The O-line did a great job, the receivers were catching balls and we just need to clean up some stuff that we're going to get clarified on Tuesday."
(on making the first defender make contact, not bring him down) "Edgar Bennett, he always teaches us to not get tackled by the first guy and just learn how to break tackles and be on your blocker."
CORNER BACK JARRETT BUSH:
(on the first team defense holding up well against the Bengals first team offense) "Tramon (Williams) did what we're taught to do. The bump and run defense, we stayed with our technique and play at will."
(on stopping the Bengals on third down with effectiveness) "We just do what we do best. We're just trying to keep going from what we started in the NFC Championship, to keep that momentum going. Building and keep building and just keep getting better. We're still young, so just keep doing what we're doing. I can't say enough, just keep with our technique. Fix some communications errors that we made and just keep moving forward. Use this as a stepping stone to get back to where we were."
WIDE RECEIVER JAMES JONES:
(on if he's ever reached the end zone without his helmet on) "No, that had to be the first time right there. I was kind of rocked for a minute too. I was just hoping I was going the right direction."
(on what happened on his touchdown play) "It was an in route, you know, we got the right coverage that we wanted, Aaron (Rodgers) threw it. I knew I was going to get hit. I didn't know how hard I was going to get hit. I knew I was going to get hit though. Going through my head, was just, 'catch the ball,' and instead of tackling me, he tried to take me out for good. I stayed up on my feet and was able to get in the end zone."
(on if he was stunned for a minute) "Oh yeah, I was rang for a minute. Like I said, I was just praying I was going the right direction. I was rang for a minute pretty good, I had a little stinger. But it was fine and was just glad I was able to get into the end zone."
(on if his play was better than Dallas tight end Jason Witten's when he lost his helmet last season) "(laughing) I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. That's for ESPN and all those type of guys to put that on that type of scale."
(on if his catch is better because he scored a touchdown) "(laughing) Oh yeah, so mine's better then. We're better than Jason Witten here, we went to the house."
(on how big the play was for the psyche for the offense) "I think it was big. Every time we get the ball, we're trying to score. We're always telling ourselves, 'make big plays,' we were able to connect and make a big play. It's definitely a booster for the offense, get some momentum swinging on our side, the defense was playing great. Whenever we can contribute and make a big play, that's always good."
LINEBACKER A.J. HAWK:
(on if this defense can be better than last year's) "We think we can be a lot better, I think, a lot better in every category. Obviously tonight there was times where we felt we played alright. And then the (Bengals) first group, we let them drive on us toward the end and score, so that was disappointing for us. But we talk about all the time about being consistent, stopping the run, and tonight we didn't get that done as much as we can. But we took a couple small steps forward at times and we have a quick turnaround going to San Fran next week. So we're going to make sure we take the positives and take it into next week."
(on a lot of the guys in the locker room suggesting this defense can be the best in the NFL) "Of course, I think this defense, our expectations that we set for ourselves is very high. We feel like the sky's the limit for the number of impact plays we can make, turnovers, everything we can do. We feel like we can set the tone of the game. We want to do that and set our offense up to score some points."
TIGHT END TORY HUMPHREY:
(on if it felt pretty good to get back out there after missing all of last season) "Yeah, it felt good. Last week with the Family Night and this week, getting in there, going live and getting tackled. It felt good to be out there making plays."
(on playing against a different team for the first time as opposed to the Family Night scrimmage) "It's totally different. Those guys don't care about if they hurt you. Your teammates will look out for you. But going against those guys, they don't care if you're hurt or not, they'll hit you no matter what."
(on if he feels like he's back up to game speed) "I think I'm pretty close. It'll probably take me a little bit to get acquainted to getting back out there, but as long as I just keep playing hard, I'll get there."
CINCINNATI BENGALS HEAD COACH MARVIN LEWIS:
(on the win) "I was pleased with how we took care of the football and our lack of penalties. We also made some plays defensively."
(on the play of the defense) "We saw a lot of different formations and had to make adjustments on the fly. It was a good test for us. I was happy with the plays we made early in the game."
(on tight end Ben Utecht) "Ben is a big target and he gives us another option on offense."
CINCINNATI BENGALS QUARTERBACK CARSON PALMER:
(on what it means to have a healthy Chris Perry) "He means a ton to our team. It seems like he is so much faster than other guys and he does a great job of finding the holes. He runs and catches the ball really well. He is a complete back."
(on the offense) "It took us awhile to get going tonight. We were close on a couple of things early, but I think we had some opening game jitters. The offense felt like we wanted to stay out there until we scored."
CINCINNATI BENGALS STRONG SAFETY DEXTER JACKSON:
(on his interception) "I read the quarterback and broke on the ball. The receiver had the ball. Our coaches always tell us to hustle to the ball and good things can happen. That's what I did on the play."
(on what the defensive expectations are this year) "I honestly feel like we can be a top ten defense this year, but we need to be able to do the little things well. We had problems with tackling last year and a great defense doesn't miss tackles."
(on Aaron Rodgers) "He was solid. He is under a lot of pressure, so I give him credit. He settled down as the game went on and he played much better."

HALFTIME QUOTES
HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY:
(on what his thoughts were when Aaron Rodgers came out for the first series) "I thought it was great that the crowd gave Aaron and the offense a standing ovation, but I was just thinking about the game and calling plays."
(on what moment stood out from Rodgers) "I thought he did a good job. He had a number of opportunities that he took advantage of. I thought he did a good job of managing the huddle. I didn't like the way we started on offense, particularly with the false start, the mental error with the protection that resulted in the sack, and then the interception in the second series. But I thought there was a lot of quality work, a lot of things we can build off of, and I thought he was off to a good start."
LINEBACKER NICK BARNETT:
(on the defense not allowing a first down on the first three series) "The defense went out there and we played well those three possessions. We communicated, got off on the snap, established the line of scrimmage up front, and the back end played well. It was a good start. We've definitely got some things to clean up, but it's definitely a good start."
(on importance of defense getting off to a good start) "It's very important. You get out there and you can kind of get it going and try to establish something for the season. I think we went out there and had a good start, still have some work to do, but it was a good start."
QUARTERBACK AARON RODGERS:
(on how it went overall) "It went pretty good. We made some plays. We were close to really putting some points on the board. We just didn't execute as well as we probably could have. We're going to clean it up, watch the film, make the corrections and get better next week."
(on the pass protection early) "We just had one miscommunication on one of the sacks. The other one I held the ball too long. I just have to get in a rhythm a little quicker next week and get the ball out of my hand a little quicker."
(on the interception) "We had the coverage we wanted, outside leverage. I put the ball where I wanted to. We have to make those plays. But we're going to clean that up and get better next week."
(on the touchdown) "It was a post by Donald and an in by James, and I probably had both of them open. James made a great catch and a great run."
