PACKERS POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Mike McCarthy:
RE: What did you think of the offense today?
"I think it was off. Just to recap the game, I think the defense started strong, we gave ourselves a defensible position. In the first-half, efficiency was not very good and that lasted the whole game. So, I think we have a long road to go. We have a lot of work to do before we get there."
RE: What did you think about the early protection breakdowns?
"Protection wasn't very good. They pushed in the pocket consistently. Really it was something that happened throughout the game and I thought the 49ers played at a higher level than us."
RE: How would you rate QB Aaron [Rodger's] play today?
"His productivity wasn't very good. Even if the quarterback does well, that doesn't matter. The consistency wasn't there for the whole offense."
RE: What can you take away from this game?
"We didn't do our job tonight. If we can learn from this experience... We've got work to do. This is a great experience to learn from. The other team got the best of us in a number of different areas."
LB Nick Barnett
RE: How do you think the defense did as a whole to start the game?
"We did OK. We could have done a lot better. Obviously, we weren't hitting on all cylinders when we first got out there. For the whole game, we didn't play at our speed. That's the bottom line."
RE: Was there anything about the opposing offense's scheme that may have surprised you as a defense?
"There weren't too many surprises. The biggest thing is there were a lot of tweaks as far as the running game goes. It was just a little more game planning than just a couple of days going in. It is preseason, but at the same time we want to come in and be prepared every game."
RE: Did you guys prepare for all three 49ers quarterbacks leading into the game?
"No. We just prepared for the scheme as opposed to preparing for all three quarterbacks."
LB Brandon Chillar
RE: How did it feel out there today?
"I did some good things, I did some bad things. I know there are some things I can improve on and I'll go back and look at film and try to do that."
RE: What was your take on J.T. O'Sullivan today? What are some of the things you saw out there?
"I think he made some good throws. He had some good timing throws. He threw the ball right--when Vernon Davis caught it he threw it right when he turned around so I would say he had good timing."
RE: What do you take from a loss like this?
"It's preseason. We need to get back to the basics. We need to tackle better and just basically execute better."
WR Donald Driver
RE: How do you guys think you did as an offensive unit?
"Awful. Awful, awful, awful. I don't think we played well. From last week we felt like we had a little spark coming into this week. But, as an offense, we didn't play well."
RE: What do you need to do as a team to come back from this game?
"Just get focus back. We feel like we made a lot of mental mistakes out there today. We didn't catch the ball well. That's mostly on the receivers. We have got to make sure we go back and watch film, make our corrections and just come back next week and get better."
RE: How do you feel the chemistry is coming along with the wide receivers?
"It's coming along. It's coming along. You know, it's not something you build overnight. So, we have two more preseason games to get this all down."
QB Aaron Rodgers
RE: What was it like playing in the Bay Area?
"I had a lot of family and friends here tonight. I was disappointed that I didn't play better in front of them. It was great to have a lot of my friends and family here. I would have liked to have done better."
RE: What did you think about your team's performance?
"It was a step backwards tonight. We didn't get into any kind of rhythm. We made too many mistakes. For one thing, I held the ball too long at times and made some poor decisions. Their defense presents multiple fronts. They posed quite a challenge. Frankly, we didn't play or adjust well to what they did."
RE: What was your conversation with Alex Smith after the game?
"We've been friends since 2005. We didn't say too much, I just encouraged him and he encouraged me. I thought he played pretty well tonight."
CB Charles Woodson
RE: One last thing, Charles [Woodson]. Tonight, was kind of a stinker, big picture, how do you put in perspective, what goes on now?
"The one thing about these kind of games is there stunning a little bit, but what they do is they humble you. But, you go back, you watch some film of it. You've got to have a short term memory in some respect, but at the same time you need to work on those mistakes that you made during that game. So, you better believe that it will be a tough week for a lot of people and you've got to make up for it in the next week."
RE: On that play batting it out of bounds, at that point was it a desperation move knocking it out so nobody could get it?
"For the young players out there, ball security. I dropped the ball making sure the 49ers didn't come back up with it. Trying to stay heads up."
RE: At that point that was one of the only positive plays on both sides and it was just kind of a rough night. Are you just going to chalk it up to preseason, no big deal, throw it away?
"I mean it is only preseason, but at the same time there were a lot of mistakes and we got beat pretty bad. Guys will have to look at this tape tomorrow and on Monday and make the corrections we need to make because this is not the way we want to go into the season. It is preseason but it is the time that you work on the fundamental things that you need to work on to be a good team. So we've got a lot of work to do."
RE: Tell us about your interception.
"It was right to me." (Was it his easiest interception?) "I'd rank it right up there."
San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Mike Nolan
Opening Statement:
"A win versus a good football team: I'm pleased with that. We do want to keep in perspective that it was a preseason game although preseason games are important, naturally, in the development of the offense, defense and special teams, and the cohesiveness of the group. Offensively, I was pleased with several things: consecutive drives in scoring, again, against a very good defense. They left their starting units in, as we did, for the better part of the half. We only had the one turnover. That was early. The defense went out and did a nice job and stopped it: we held them to three [points]. But I thought we ran the ball, we passed the ball effectively, I thought that was good. Some individual performances on offense that come to mind: Josh Morgan and Jason Hill both did some good things, made some plays, caught the ball, ran with the ball well after they caught it. Frank Gore did fine. All three quarterbacks I was pleased with. So that was good. And then, there were zero sacks so from an offensive-line standpoint that was a real positive. On the defensive side, I thought we played very physical defensively. We had several turnovers in the game. Some of it was our causing, some of it was their mistakes. Nonetheless, those were important. We kept the yardage down. Individual performances: I saw several players make some plays but I know one player that caught my attention on some plays was Ray MacDonald. He's working very well on the defense both on the base-downs and in the sub-package. He works closely with Justin Smith. The two of them are working together well as far as pass-rush situations, whether it's on the outside or whether it's the inside. They mix it up, both. In the special teams area, obviously Allen Rossum did a nice job with his return scoring the touchdown. So those were good. Other than that, those were the things I saw."
RE: Do you think you saw enough from the three quarterbacks to make a decision after this game as to who the starter will be?
"Not at this time. I need to look at the film before I make any decisions. We do. Naturally, we utilize the evaluations of the coaching staff and myself. So there are meetings to have."

PACKERS HALFTIME QUOTES
CORNERBACK CHARLES WOODSON:
(on the interception) "It was a man-to-man play, but if my receiver does a certain thing I can come off of him because there's help inside. I came off and he threw the ball right to me. You just hope that it's a sign of things to come. I'm just going to continue to work hard and try to make plays."
(on the defense when the full first unit was in) "We looked pretty good. We were flying around. We made good tackles. We did well secondary-wise, limiting them if they caught any passes. I thought we looked pretty good."
