POST-GAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY:
(on how important it was to win in a ‘wild game like that') "You want to win. That's who we are, we're competitive, that's obviously our goal every time we take the field. I'll tell you this, we can definitely learn from some of the things that went on here at the end of the game. We had a chance to end the game twice and we did not, so I promise you we will learn from that as a football team. I thought we were impressive in the first half as a football team. I thought the special teams did a very good job with the field position. I thought the offense was sharp. The protection they were able to generate with the takeaways on defense. We had a challenge here in the first half where both the headsets on the offense and the defense were down. We could have probably handled that a little better. There's always things you can learn from this game. I think overall three weeks in a row would have been a very positive in a lot of our production but it's important to win. You always go out to win, and I think both sides showed that tonight."
(on the specific injuries to WR Greg Jennings, S Atari Bigby, DE Michael Montgomery, RB Brandon Jackson) "Greg (Jennings) had a blow to the head and he did not return. Atari Bigby had a sprained thumb. (Michael) Montgomery has a broken hand. Brandon Jackson has a bruised shin."
(on if WR Greg Jennings has a concussion) "I'm not sure if they classified it as that. I'm not going to take any chances."
(on how WR Greg Jennings is doing now) "He seems okay, I saw him briefly in the hall."
(on S Anthony Smith's performance with S Atari Bigby out) "I'll have to see the film. The second defense was out there a long time. A lot of pass defense, so I'll have to look at the film to give you a better answer."
(on his impression QB Brian Brohm's performance) "Well was it three series he played? He really didn't have an opportunity the first two, he had the deep ball on second or third down, he had zero protection. I thought on the third series he did a nice job leading that drive down the field. I thought he definitely played better than he did last week."
(on if the holding by Ruvell (Martin) was erratic)
"We'll have to look at that. Once I see [the tape] I'll be able to give you a better answer."
RB RYAN GRANT:
(on why he thinks the offense has clicked so well so far) "I think it is communication and attitude really. Attitude comes from the offensive line. The O-line is playing downhill. The tempo that they are playing with is phenomenal. We are all on the same page communication-wise. That is what we are trying to accomplish and what we are doing. If you look at the execution part, we are getting it done."
LB A.J. HAWK:
(on his initial reaction of how the defense played) "We talk about it all the time how they come in bunches. These first three games, they have been everywhere. I think that the defense allows you to play fast and create turnovers. We try to confuse the offense, have a couple of guys come free or be a back or something and get the ball out. If we don't carry this into the regular season, it's not going to mean anything. We're glad it is happening, but we have to find a way to carry it over."
(on the defense causing turnovers) "We talk about it all the time how they come in bunches.
(on what the defense needs to work on after the offense succeeded later in the game) "We say it all the time, but they are getting paid too. If you look at it, they have a great offensive game plan, great coaches. They made some plays. You have to give them credit. They picked up some of our blitzes. They had some guys that got open and made some plays too. You have to give them credit. Leinart played really well tonight. Their offense moved the ball really well. There is a reason they were in the Super Bowl last year. They have a very explosive offense. We have to make sure when we come back here January 3rd that we try to keep these turnovers going."
LB AARON KAMPMAN:
(on what happened during his second quarter touchdown) "We had a blitz on, I had the contain element, Charles (Woodson) made a great play on the ball and got it out. I just happened to be Johnny-on-the-spot and took it in for the score."
(on what he was thinking when he picked up the ball and started to run) "Run Forrest, run. It was good. I haven't scored like that since high school, so it was fun."
(on how important it was to have a good first half) "I think it is another step in the right direction, but you can never get too high in the preseason. I think the reality is that some fundamental things that we are doing are good things. Getting the ball, a lot of takeaways, those are all good things. They are going to be good signs for a pretty good defense this year."
(on playing against a high-powered offense like the Cardinals) "They were definitely a good football team. We did some good things. It was 38-10 at halftime. We came in at halftime and we said ‘we can get a lot better.' There were some sloppy elements to our play defensively, yet we were doing pretty good out there. That is a good sign that we can still improve and that we are taking the ball away on defense."
QB AARON RODGERS:
(on how he would assess the offensives performance) "I think we were great tonight. Three games, no punts for the first team. 31 points tonight. The line was great. I barely got touched. In the run game, we opened some holes up. It is just pitch and catch out there and the guys made the plays. Jordy (Nelson) was wide open on that one and I was just trying not to overthrow him. Donald (Driver) made a big play when they jumped off-sides. James (Jones) had a great catch down the sideline. Jermichael (Finley) made a great adjustment on two balls. We just made plays."
(On how important playing this well is to him and the team) "It is exciting. It really is. To have the defense playing like it is. Offensively to score points and capitalize on mistakes, it's exciting. People are going to say ‘it's preseason,' and we have been downplaying it a little bit, but this is the dress rehearsal for the whole season. To be able to go out there and play the way we did today, you can't help but be excited in Packer nation."
(on if the offense is where he wants it to be at this point) "I think we are really close. The kind of weapons we got, to see Greg (Jennings) go down in the first quarter, to be able to plug Jordy in there and have a 78-yard touchdown. James Jones to make some big plays and have a touchdown be called back. Jermichael Finley has been a weapon for us all preseason. I am excited."
C/G JASON SPITZ:
(on his impressions of the offenses performance throughout the game) "We started off fast, scored points. We moved the ball effectively. That is a good thing. We put in a lot of hard work during camp and it is coming to fruition now. It's just one of those things; look at our mistakes in the second half and fix them and move on."
(on how important it is for the offense to be on this kind of a roll heading into the season) "You don't get your hopes up too early. One thing I do know is that we are working hard, putting time into the run game, time into the pass game, and things are working right now. It is too early to say. One thing I can tell you for sure is that we are going to keep working and keep doing our best to be successful."
(on the Cardinals defensive scheme) "It was effective in the second half against the two's. We were clicking tonight and we were executing. Regardless of what defense is out there, if you execute, do the fundamentals, and finish, things are going to happen."
(on Cardinals DL Darnell Dockett) "In any system, he is a good player. He is fast and strong and big. Regardless of the system, he'll do well."
ARIZONA CARDINALS HEAD COACH KEN WHISENHUNT:
(Opening Statement) "I'm proud of our team for fighting back in the second half and having a chance to win it but I'm extremely disappointed in our football team the way we played the second half. It's embarrassing that that team did that to us in the first half. I'm glad of two things. I'm glad that number one, it's a preseason game, and number two, that maybe this is a wake up call for our guys. One thing you worry about when a team has success that you think you can just show up and beat anybody. That's a lesson that we learned tonight. Part of that goes on me. Obviously we weren't coached well enough tonight. We were out-coached and we were beat physically. We have a lot of things to work on this next week before our last preseason game and before our first regular season game. I'm encouraged by a number of things I saw tonight. Especially our running game and the way Matt (Leinart) played in the second half. Obviously we've got a lot of things to work on."
(on why the Cardinals lost) "When you turn the ball over, like we did on offense. When you have penalties. When you don't make plays on defense. That to me is guys not focused on what they need to do in preseason. You get an attitude that it's a preseason game and that's what we did. Guys came in here and they didn't really care about the game. Green Bay came in here with a mission, and that was to prove that they were a good football team. They said it publicly that this would be a good mark for them because they thought that we were a good football team. We weren't a really good football team tonight, and hopefully we can learn from that."
(on whether or not Whisenhunt saw the loss coming) "Nope. I didn't sense it coming. I think that we ran into a buzz saw. I still think that we have a good football team and I know if we play the way we're capable of playing we're going to win our share of games. I think that we'll use this as a wake up call and I have no doubt we'll play better from this point."
(on the running game) "He (Beanie Wells) looked good tonight. That was impressive. That defense has played very well. I don't think they've given up any points in the preseason. Beanie (Wells) did a nice job running the football. Tim Hightower had a good night running the ball, too. I think one of the questions we have is whether or not we're improving our running game and certainly Beanie (Wells) is a good addition to that. I'm excited about that because he'll continue to get stronger and we'll look forward to seeing him play in the next game. One of the bright spots in a dismal evening was the fact that we did some good things in the running game."
(on Green Bay's play) "It's speculative until I see the game tape, but I believe they game planned us. They were prepared and they were on a mission to accomplish exactly what they did. That was to come in here and set a tone. I'm disappointed that we're not a more mature team that we could raise our level to meet that. One thing I know about this football team is that we learn from our mistakes. This couldn't have come at a better time because it will wake our guys up."
(on the status of Mike Gandy) "Mike's ok. He just had a little tightness. We just wanted to make sure we took care of him. Pago Togafau has a fractured bone in his foot. We'll have to see the extent of that tomorrow once we get all the results back. More than likely he's going to be down for a little bit of time. Larod (Stephens-Howling) appears to be ok. I talked to him in the locker room and he was alert. There's a baseline with that particular injury that the league requires him to be tested. I don't anticipate that it will be an issue."
(on the abilities of receivers) ""We found out a lot about a bunch of guys tonight. Unfortunately, some of that wasn't good. I don't think you can rule them out because a lot of time it was extended action against good players for the first time. Some of those guys that I was disappointed in in the first half ending up making some good plays in the second half. You like the fact that they were willing to fight back. We have talent and depth at our receiver. It's just disappointing that when we had opportunities to step up tonight we didn't. When you think back to last year when Anquan (Boldin) was hurt, Steve Breaston stepped up and made some big plays for us and we were able to continue successfully on offense. When you fumble the football, like tonight, it takes you out of your game. I feel like we would have moved the ball down the field and scored. We were a little better in the red zone tonight and that was good."
ARIZONA CARDINALS LINEBACKER KARLOS DANSBY:
(on the team's defensive effort tonight) "They made plays tonight. We didn't make plays, and it cost us. We were in position, but we just couldn't come away with making the right play at the right time."
(on if the Packers seemed to be targeting Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) "Well, Aaron Rodgers is tough, and they had a great game plan. I can't see them just picking on one person. They really took it to us as a team. It takes all 11 to get the job done, and we didn't get it done."
(on what Coach Whisenhunt said after the game) "We didn't get the job done. We didn't do what's required for us to do, in order to get a win today. We've got to go back to the drawing board. We messed up on a lot of technique, mental errors and stuff like that, and it caused them to have big plays and allowed them to get points on the board."
(on if the team came into the game less focused because of a preseason mentality) "I can't say that, because every time you step on the field, you want to give your best. You want to be able to execute, make plays and win the ballgame. So you can't really say the preseason is why what happened tonight happened. They outplayed us, bottom line. From the time they came out of the locker room, they outplayed us."
(On if the plan was to have the first-team defense play the full three quarters) "We planned to play the whole three quarters. We knew that coming into this game, and we just didn't do everything that we needed to do, on the field, at the right time, in order to get the win."
ARIZONA CARDINALS RUNNING BACK TIM HIGHTOWER:
(on the play of RB Beanie Wells) "He ran hard. He did really well. He's worked really hard in practice, so it was good to see him get a chance and get out there. It just shows we have a bright future ahead of us at running back."
(on if Coach Whisenhunt expressed his disappointment in the locker room at the team's play in the first half) "Absolutely, but that's something that I don't think he has to express. We've got to take it upon ourselves, that if we want to be a good team this season, we can't put ourselves down 30 points and have to come back against good teams. We've got to address that, get back to work at practice, and we've got to correct it next week."
(on if the team was too loose because this was a preseason game) "I hope not. Anytime you step on the field, it's time to get better. So I hope that's not the case. Whatever it is, we'll watch film on Monday, and we'll get back to work."
ARIZONA CARDINALS QUARTERBACK MATT LEINART:
(on the game) "It was a fun game. We didn't play too well. We had a lot of mistakes in the first half. Offensively we moved the ball well but we made a lot of mistakes that we have to clean up. But we didn't quit. We came out in the second half and put some drives together. We had a chance to win the game but we just fell short. The effort was there but we just have to continue to get better. It was fun to be out there though. I haven't gotten that much action in a while. It was fun though, it felt like a real game."
(on getting hyped up for a pre-season game) "It's the third pre-season game. We're out here to win games. We're not here to go through the motions to get by the pre-season. We're out here to play hard when you're in the game. Whomever's in the game, you're in there to play hard and take advantage of the opportunity. I can guarantee you that both sides of the ball are playing hard. Pre-season is pre-season but at the same time we're trying to win a football game."
(on players going all out) "That's the thing. People are trying to make the team and people are going all out, 100%. When I was in there the receivers did a great job catching the ball. They were getting hit hard. All those guys made plays. Every single one of them made great plays in the second half. It was hard hitting but that's just football."
(on his passing game) "It was fun to throw the ball around a lot. I wish we could've won the game. There's a couple throws I wish I could have back but there's plenty I can work on to get better and that's what I'm going to do."
ARIZONA CARDINALS QUARTERBACK KURT WARNER:
(on if the fumble on the 4th play of the drive that led to a touchdown was a "gamechanger":) "You have to look at every drive. Every drive you can point to something that caused us to stall. That's been a theme of preseason up to this point. We're doing a lot of good things, making a lot of plays, but we're just not making all of the plays. The thing about it is that some of them haven't really been that difficult. It's been technique or holding onto the ball or whatever it might be and that's the frustrating part. If we can do those little things, we can feel really good with adding that to all of the things that we've done. But, being that it's been three games so far and we haven't done those things, it's starting to get a bit frustrating. You get to the point where there really needs to be a sense of urgency moving forward. Everyone has got to feel it and everybody has to understand and everybody has to take it upon themselves not to let it happen again."
(on why mistakes keep happening in the preseason so far and if he is worried about slipping in bigger games) "I think you are always worried about slipping. I don't know what it is though. A couple of things you chalk up to some different looks that you haven't seen, you start preparing for different people and you have to get more comfortable with that. Some of it you chalk up to good plays. The fumble I had that went for a touchdown I was right on the verge of throwing that away. That's one of inches. The interception at the half, I thought their guy made a great play on it. We had a chance for a big play, but he covered some ground. Some of it's that but at the same time if I throw that ball two yards further maybe it goes for a touchdown instead of an interception. Those are some of the things you look at it in preseason and you look at it like ‘Ok, you're not going to hit every throw, but you want to make the right reads, you want to go to the right place with the football."
(on the play of Beanie Wells) "I thought Beanie (Wells) did a great job. I thought he ran the ball hard, looked quick out there, was real definitive with his touch and his reads. It was fun to watch him. After a couple of games off, coming back from an injury, he wants to prove himself. That's how we all need to be playing. That's the one thing you hope guys aren't getting a little complacent after the success of last year and thinking we can just turn it on when we step out onto the field because it doesn't work that way. He played like a guy who had a little bit of a chip on his shoulder and wanted to prove something. We all need to take a little something from that."
(on playing "catch up" at the end of the game) "It was a fun game to be a part of. I think that's what you love in preseason especially when you're putting a bunch of different guys in at the end and interchanging guys, you love to see guys that can compete and continue to make plays. Guys who don't necessarily get an opportunity to do that in a normal situation get a chance to make plays. One guy I think of is Sean Morey who made some great plays. It's fun to watch those guys and cheer for those guys and see those guys battle. You just hope you're never put in a situation where they have to do as much coming back as they had to."
(on if he anticipates playing next week) "No. I don't anticipate that, but I have no idea. I feel really good with where I'm at right now and feel good going into the season. We definitely want to finish off more drives and do those sort of things and make more plays. That's only going to come with us fine tuning and making the plays that need to be made even though we haven't done it up to this point. I don't anticipate me having to play a lot to figure those things out, but it's coach's decision as always."
ARIZONA CARDINALS RUNNING BACK BEANIE WELLS:
(on his first NFL action) "It was great to finally get out there on the field. That was actually my first piece of contact since the first day of training camp. I'm definitely excited to have been in the game. I had a lot of butterflies going. It was good to be out there on the field."
(on those first couple of plays) "It was definitely up and down like a roller coaster. To finally put on that jersey and actually get out there, it hit me when I got that first carry in the NFL."
(on what it was like to score a TD) "It was great. The offensive line did a tremendous job. I kind of rushed that play if you take a look at it. I ran into the fullback. I kind of rushed it a little bit because I was anxious. I made the right cut and the blockers got to their assignments and I got into the end zone."
(on getting more practice in) "I have a lot of work to do. I have to get back out there Monday and get my timing right and get my ankle better. I felt like I didn't have a lot of burst tonight."
(on how close his ankle is to being 100%) "I'm still a ways away. I have a lot of work to do still. I just keep saying my prayers and doing a lot of rehab."
(on next week's game and continuing to adapt) "I think it will be the same because I've got a lot of work to do. I have to get a lot better and I have to get my timing right. I just have to get more comfortable out there."
(on Tim Hightower's leadership) "Yeah, he's (Tim Hightower) on me all the time. He's a great leader and one of the leaders on this football team. He's on me about never being satisfied. You have to go out there and be hungry. To get more then what people expect. Tim's a great motivator and a great person to be around. I take my hat off to him. I love him to death."

HALFTIME QUOTES
HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY:
(Offense on fire) The offense played well. Good point production. I'm very pleased with what we were able to accomplish so far.
(Defense great too) On defense, we had some communication breakdowns, actually on both sides of the ball, when our headsets went down. We need to learn to handle that a little better. We got ourselves in some bad situations, so we're going to clean that up and have a good strong second half.
(Woodson and the strips) It's great. Our defense is playing very well with vision to the ball, a lot more opportunities with the turnovers. We need to keep it up.
(Starters?) The starters are done.
QB AARON RODGERS:
(on first half) "That's about as good as we can play on offense. Talk about exciting. We've got a defense like that that can stop them and we get the ball back at the end. So many weapons, great play calling, and it's just us on offense executing.
(on the long passes to Driver and Nelson) "I saw the flag on the play with Driver. I just tried to elude the first guy. Donald, great feel for the game, took it deep. The one to Nelson, good play fake, the line sold it, and I was just hoping I didn't overthrow him."
(on his 34-yard run) "I just wanted to get out of bounds (laughing). My calves started tightening on me a little bit."
(how much confidence do they take out of tonight) "No punts yet for the first team. That is incredible. We've been clicking but we've just got to keep this momentum going."
CB CHARLES WOODSON:
(on the defense's 12 takeaways so far this preseason) "That's the kind of defense we want to be. It's been fun this preseason being an attacking defense, getting turnovers. That's the one thing we know we want to carry over into the regular season."
(on his three forced fumbles, two-sack performance) "I don't know how many days you have like that over the course of the year, but if I can get a few of those in the regular season and help this team win, I'm happy about that.
(on the overall team performance in the first half) "I thought it was good. I thought we took a couple of blows on defense as far as letting them go down the field, but we just kept attacking, made the plays when we needed to. The offense has been absolutely explosive, so like I said, it's fun to do it now in the preseason, but we have to carry it over to the regular season."
