POST-GAME NOTES & QUOTES
GREEN BAY PACKERS HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY:
(On playing on the road) "It starts with the turnovers on defense and the ability to get the two first downs. It's difficult to win on the road. Coming down here to St. Louis, I was very impressed with our fan support here today. We got off to a great start defensively with the turnovers. There was some up and down parts to the game, but I really like how the team responded. The team kept fighting, and I thought it was a good victory for us to complete a good week of work."
(On coming up with big plays) "Well big plays equal points in this league. We fully have the ability to play that way. More importantly, it's the first time this year we were able to stay balanced offensively, both running and passing the ball on first down. That's when we play our best football."
(On running the football) "We talk about this all the time. The most important statistic in my view with running the football is being able to run it for four quarters, and those yards came in at the end. That's when you really need them. You come out running 6, 7, 8, 9 yards you should have a big day or the defense has to make some corrections. Just the fact that we were able to sustain a four quarter run-pass ratio, I think, is playing to our strength."
PACKERS RUNNING BACK RYAN GRANT:
(On him nearly getting 100 yards) "They told me I got 99, but if we did get it that is great. The offensive line finished strong. It was tough sledding, but I am glad that we fought through and finished it off."
(On the running game getting better as the game went on) "I think guys got more confident and I was trying to run as hard as possible and try to give them (offensive line) a spark. I think guys were gaining confidence that we could move the ball on the ground. They were really getting after guys on the offensive line."
(On this past week's practice) "I think guys really practiced hard to forget about last week and focus on this week."
PACKERS LINEBACKER AARON KAMPMAN:
(On getting the win against the Rams) "We needed it as a team, week three in my experience tells you a little something because the first two games are pretty sporadic and a little crazy. Week three you start to settle into a grove, and today we found a way to make the plays and get the win."
(On keeping their composure during the game) "They (Rams) came at us in the second quarter with a couple of drives. That is what good teams do when they are challenged, they respond and we were able to do that today."
(On finishing off the game in the fourth quarter) "We have had two games where we have not been able to do that and one that we have. Hopefully, we can make the former the trend. That was big for us heading into next week, a Monday night game, it would be huge for us to get a win."
PACKERS FULLBACK JOHN KUHN:
(On his two touchdowns) "It felt great to get back in the end zone. I mean every offensive player loves to get there. The offensive line and Aaron (Rodgers) did a heck of a job."
(On having a solid fourth quarter) "We are a well-conditioned team and we work hard in practice. When it comes to the fourth quarter, you could tell that is when we hit our stride. To be able to finish the way we did today that was a positive."
(To get rid of the feeling of last week's loss) "We had the whole week to remember it and it is good to get back on the winning side."
ST. LOUIS RAMS HEAD COACH STEVE SPAGNUOLO:
(Opening Remarks) "Injury wise, I know you're all curious. (S) James Butler, obviously, he came out of the game. He's got a knee injury. They're calling it an MCL. We'll know a little bit more about it tomorrow. (QB) Marc (Bulger) had a shoulder. Both of those guys are tough guys, so I'm certain that if they could have went, they would have went back in there, so there's some significance to both those injuries and we'll know more when we get a chance to look at them tomorrow. (WR) Laurent Robinson's ankle, same thing. Other than that we won't know until we take a look at it a little bit more tomorrow. (WR) Donnie Avery went out with a rib (injury) and he just told me it was the wind knocked out of him, so it's probably more than what he thinks, but an X-ray will tell that. Other than that a bunch of bumps and bruises. We did have some guys in and out of there. It's a battle or it's a struggle when guys get hurt, especially early in the game, somebody like James Butler who kind of runs the show back there. I did think Craig Dahl went in there and did a pretty good job for guys that don't get those reps."
"I'm disappointed in the results. I'm not disappointed in the effort. I though right into the third quarter it was about how we had to play the game. Now, you don't want to spot people 16 points or whatever it was, but our defense did rise up when we turned it over and held them to field goals. But the offense kept coming back. It's the big plays on defense that kill you and the turnovers – we didn't get any takeaways, so that's basically what it comes down to. But I'm now disappointed in the effort and the way the guys played and with that I'll open it up."
(On if Bulger is going to get an MRI tonight or tomorrow) "I don't know that. I'm quite certain, you know, there will be some more research on him and then we'll have a better idea tomorrow. I'll fill you in on that then."
(On when Bulger got hurt) "I think it was, I don't know for sure, but I think it was on the fumble down there close. But then he tried to go back and (Head Trainer) Jim (Anderson) came to me and said that his shoulder was bothering him and he wanted to give it a shot and went back out there. And then I'm not sure if he got hit again or if he just decided he couldn't do it."
(On how he would evaluate QB Kyle Boller's performance) "It's hard without looking at the film, but the feel is that once he was out there the team was moving the football and at the end when the defense knows what you have to do it makes it tough on any quarterback. But my gut feeling is right now he managed the game and he had the guys headed in the right direction. We'll look at it on tape."
(On how tough it was to lose WR Laurent Robinson early in the game) "Yeah and Laurent had done some thing that really helped us in key situations. It's disappointing when anybody gets hurt. But it's part of the league; it's part of the NFL. I'm sure other teams are fighting through the same thing and we have to have other guys step up."
RAMS QUARTERBACK KYLE BOLLER:
(On how he felt overall about today's game) "I thought it went pretty well. A lot of things I can work on now. We got to finish drives. That's the ultimate thing. We got to put points on the board and we can't give them the ball in the territory and give them points."
(On how tough it was coming in for QB Marc Bulger off the bench) "Well, it's not the easiest part but that's why it's such a tough job. You got to prepare during the week, know all the plays like you're a starter for that opportunity. Unfortunate, today Marc got hurt and I was able to go in there and step in."
(On how much work he was able to get in with the first team offense this week) "I didn't take any reps this week at all with the offense. Some guys don't really do scout team, I like to do a lot of scout team. So I was basically (QB) Aaron Rodgers this week which I think helps you out. With actual reps with our offense, I didn't take any."
RAMS QUARTERBACK MARC BULGER:
(On the injury to his right shoulder) "We'll see. I think we'll know more tomorrow morning. Obviously, I tried to go and couldn't do it. I have an MRI scheduled for the morning."
(On the play that he got injured) "It was on the turnover. I knew something was wrong. I tried to go back in and just work it out but unfortunately I think the next play was when it happened and I got hit again right on the same spot so at that point it was going to be counter-productive staying in."
(On what he saw from the sidelines that the team was missing) "I hate to judge everyone on the field when I'm not in the game because it is so different when you are in the game; from the sideline, from the press box, if you're watching it on T.V., it is five different games. I just know (RB) Steven (Jackson) played well, (QB) Kyle (Boller) came in and did a great job, our line got going, we got some juice going, we got the offense moving in the two-minute drill so I was proud of those guys, the way they played, especially Kyle, the way he came in and played with no practice all week."
RAMS LINEBACKER JAMES LAURINAITIS:
(On giving up a lot of points during the game) "It is never a good thing to give up a lot of points like this. I think there ae a lot of things that we can learn from this game. There are obviously some positives to the things we did well but anytime you allow this many points, it's a bummer. We've got to go into film tomorrow, kind of correct things, look at things we didn't do so well, and try and make those better. You've got to give credit to the Packers and Aaron Rodgers; he's great with his feet. He did a lot of big plays there, threw some balls down field. We'll get it corrected and we just have to look at it tomorrow."
(On what the defense does when down 16-0) "We just have to do our jobs; that's really all you can do in those situations. That's what makes a team a team. You go out there and your job is to stop the other offense and that's what we've got to do; it doesn't matter what the other scoreboard says. It just effects the situation what the other offense is trying to do depending on the score. We've got to go out there and play football and that is what we did, the guys fought hard, and we'll get after it tomorrow in the film room and we'll get some things cleared up."
RAMS WIDE RECEIVER LAURENT ROBINSON:
(On if his injury happened during the tackle) "It was actually a running play. I was blocking my man and the pile came and rolled up on me. I kind of just got caught underneath the pile and bent back. Some things happen, you just got to keep going and keep moving forward."
(On what the trainers are saying about his injury) "They haven't given me anything yet."
(On S James Butler, QB Marc Bulger, and WR Donnie Avery getting hurt also) "Yeah, you know football is a tough game, very physical, but injuries happen and the game doesn't stop for anybody. Backup's come and keep playing and making plays."
