- WR Greg Jennings recorded his 12th career touchdown catch of 40-plus yards, this one for 64 yards. He became thefirst Packers player to record 100 yards or more in a single half since WR Donald Driver had 131 yards in the second half at Tennessee last season. GREEN BAY PACKERS HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY:
(on being comfortable if Brad Jones and Brandon Underwood have to play due to Aaron Kampman and Al Harris' injuries) "The two rookies had a chance to play today, and it'll give them a chance to learn from being in there. You know, Brad had a chance to play some last week so he'll have two games to work off. And Brandon, it was obviously a big opportunity for him so we'll just keep coaching them. We've kind of been going through the injury phase of it and hopefully these two injuries aren't as serious as we may think."
(on playing well in the first half, but then allowing San Francisco to come back in the second half) "Well, I thought we played an extremely productive first half as a football team, you know, in all three phases. I thought the defense really set the tone. They had the one long run, and the ability to get off the field on third down and to continue to give us the ball back on offense. On offense, we had a lot of production, but we didn't play as well as we liked in the red zone on those first two series. I thought the special teams was really…they kind of picked up where they left off against Dallas. The second half, they had some momentum swings, they had the big kickoff return, they hit a couple vertical routes on us, third and twenty, third and ten. They were big plays in the game and frankly, in hindsight now, sitting here in front of you, it's definitely something that we can build off of, because we've had some momentum swings in the past, just two weeks ago, that we didn't recover from. So, I like the way our defense hung in there, they kept battling and our offense, particularly in the four-minute offense, to run the clock out. So, it's a good team victory. It was an opponent that we had a lot of respect for, as far their players, their coaches. They're well coached. I can tell you that first hand. And this is a good victory for our team."
(on whether or not injuries take away from the win) "Well, injuries have kind of fallen upon us and hopefully Aaron and Al will be able to bounce back from this. It's unfortunate. You don't want to see any of your players get hurt, but it's part of our job. That's really a big part of a coach's responsibility to overcome these types of situations and navigate through your medical phase of it and aspect of your football team. It's a short turnaround. Our guys will be in here early in the morning, they'll be in the weight room, they'll be getting treatment, and we'll start on the film study. It will be a quick week, but our goal is to go 3-0 in our third quarter of the season and we've been preparing for this. It is a short week and we got a divisional opponent on national TV, so we're going to turn this San Francisco game over pretty quickly and get on Detroit in the morning."
(on his team's ability to run the football lately) "Yeah, we like the way we're running the football. We had been productive and I just think, as always, the opportunity to be balanced gives us our best chance to be explosive with our offense."
PACKERS SAFETY NICK COLLINS:
(on the defense setting the tone early) "That's our mind set, just start fast. Everybody's getting comfortable doing what they're doing, so that's what we did today, started fast. And in the second half, we just have to find a way to finish up strong."
(on what he saw on his interception) "(Quarterback) Alex Smith was looking down his receiver and I had a nice jump on the ball. I was able to get over there and make the pick."
(on taking a step toward the playoffs) "We're just taking it a game at a time. We're going to go out there, play hard, do our jobs. At the end of the day, we have a shot to be in the playoff talk."
(on the short week) "We just got to keep rolling. Hopefully everybody can get healthy, we're a little banged up right now."
PACKERS RUNNING BACK RYAN GRANT:
(on two wins in a row) "It's big for us. It's the way we want to keep it moving. This is big, I know we got a short week now, but it's a big win for us at home against a team that's solid, plays very physical. We had to grind it out, we'll clean some things up in the second half on all three sides and now we got to get ready for Detroit."
(on being backed up on the 9-yard line on their last possession and pushing it out with the running game) "Well that's what you got to do. We knew it was going to be that type of possession, backed-up, we were going to have to get ourselves out with first downs. So we were able to do it, the line did a good job, we were able to move our legs. Brandon (Jackson) did a good job at the end of the run I broke, helped a little bit. We finished it the way we needed to."
(on struggling the second half after such a productive first half) "Executing. I think we didn't keep the energy on all three cylinders really. If you look, I think they came out and played faster than us and they were playing with more energy. We got to clean that up. We were able to finish it, but we shouldn't have even been in that position."
PACKERS WIDE RECEIVER GREG JENNINGS:
(on his 64-yard touchdown catch) "I think my guy was in a two man look. I gave him a quick outside release, outside move, then got inside of him and A-Rod (Aaron Rodgers) hit me on the run and I was able to cut back on the safety. We saw a lot of cut back opportunities in their pursuit angles on film. I was able to cut back and then all my guys got a block for me, which was huge."
(on the offense starting fast) "That's what we talk about all the time, starting fast. We were able to start extremely fast this week. Obviously we didn't keep it going like we wanted to in the second half. But we were able to pull out a victory. We feel like there's been a lot of games where the defense has kept us in the game, so we figured we jump on them, then the teams have to play pass sets against our defense and it's pretty tough to come back on a defense like that."
(on the last drive to run out the clock) "It was huge, it was huge. The running game stepped up huge. In a situation like that you have to be able to run the ball. You got to be able to establish that four-minute offense, we talk about it all the time. Keep the ball out of their hands, just milk the clock and end the game kneeling down. It's the best play in the playbook, everybody loves to see it when you're on the winning side and we were able to get it done today."
PACKERS NOSE TACKLE B.J. RAJI:
(on his first career sack) "It felt good. I work hard to get back there, getting ready to play, helping these guys out. The guys played a ton of plays, Johnny Jolly and Jenks (Cullen Jenkins) and Pick (Ryan Pickett). I just want to get back and help the rotation and help out the best way I could."
(on if the defense is hitting its stride) "To be honest with you, we got the players, there's no question about that. And it's the communication and execution. For instance on that one play, running back Frank Gore, we didn't get the communication and that's an easy score for them. You can't afford to give that. But besides that for the most part of the day our communication was pretty good."
(on holding Frank Gore to 17 yards rushing when his 42 yard run is thrown away) "A lot of people come in and play against us, they talk about being physical, but we're probably one of the most physical D-lines in the league. We pride ourselves on that. Those guys like to run the ball, but weren't having that today."
PACKERS QUARTERBACK AARON RODGERS:
(on what was working well in the first half) "I think we had good tempo, good rhythm in the passing game, a lot of time, a good scheme, good concepts and we were just kind of clicking. I think Greg (Jennings) made a big play off a little 10-yard pass and (it's) good to have Jermichael (Finley) back making plays. He kind of opens things up for everybody. We just got into a good rhythm."
(on if there's satisfaction beating the team that passed on him in the draft) "It's always good to get a win in this league. It's fun to play against a team that you idolized growing up and you watched every Sunday after church."
(on how confident they were in being able to run the ball late in the game) "Not super confident going into the game...but you've got to give credit to our guys up front. I think they did a nice job. RG (Ryan Grant), I think he had a good rhythm today as far as being patient, hitting the holes and breaking tackles, and the receivers do a great job blocking for him when we gets to that second level as well."
(on the importance of this win) "I think it's important for us to control our home-field advantage and the fans were great again today. We knew this third quarter stretch, these three games in 12 days, was an important time for us. We needed to win both the home games and now we need to go up to Detroit and get that one on a short week."
(on the pass protection) "It was good. They did a nice job. They gave me a lot of time and I had space as well when nobody was open to move around a little bit."
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS HEAD COACH MIKE SINGLETARY:
(on the loss) "Obviously a game like this is very disappointing. We've been here a few times this year. Either we're digging ourselves a hole early in the game and it's too much to overcome, or we're getting ahead and finding ourselves too comfortable with a lead. We have to settle down – our young guys have to settle down and play football and understand that this is 49er football going forward."
(on the team's first half play) "You have to play 60 minutes and you have to start fast, whether you're on the road or you're at home, it doesn't matter. We just have to learn how to come out and be ready to go from the start. Either we're not starting early or we're not finishing, and this is the time of year you can't do that. You have to come out and put it together across the board. It's as simple as that."
(on the team's offense) "I'm very proud of the way our offense fought. I think it's one of those things that's very encouraging going forward."
(on the team's defense) "Defensively we got off to a bad start. I think that our corners were playing a little bit too loose and I think they took advantage of some of those things. We have to challenge receivers better. We knew that their receivers were (yards after catch) kind of receivers – catching the ball and taking advantage of you being off, and running. We did not tackle well. There are a number of things we didn't do well, but moving forward we just have to do a better job."
49ERS WIDE RECEIVER MICHAEL CRABTREE:
(on his first career touchdown catch) "It's Lambeau Field, it's just undescribable and once I see it on tape I will feel that much better. It was just a go route. It looked like they were playing prevent man to man and I just had to make a play."
(on playing against Al Harris) "I think he is a good tackler and a good cornerback."
(on San Francisco's 4-6 record) "All we can do is focus on the next game and see if we can get better."
(on his performance so far this season) "I'm a rookie and I'm still getting used to the game. I am out there working hard and trying to get better every day."
49ERS LINEBACKER MANNY LAWSON:
(on why Green's Bay rushing game was successful today) "They have a great running back and the offensive line blocked well today. We need to stay about us and do our job. There were times when we were gapped removed. In this league, when there is a mistake and a team capitalizes they are going to get the better hand. That is what they did; they capitalized on our mistakes."
(on slowing Green Bay's offense in the second half) "I can't say anything really changed. We stuck with our same game plan. I think we just came back in here and got our bearings back, got ourselves regrouped and came out and played better football."
(on Aaron Rodgers) "I think he did a good job as far looking guys off and completing passes. I think he did a really good job of running his offense."
49ERS QUARTERBACK ALEX SMITH:
(on the team's first half) "I think we came out, for whatever reason, apprehensive, cautious and kind of waiting for somebody to make a play. We really didn't get going at all until the second half. We lacked rhythm getting first downs, which makes it more difficult. We've got to go make it happen, go execute the plays and get ourselves going."
(on his interception) "I got tangled on the release and tried to get the ball out quick. The time clock goes off a little faster when you're down on your own (one yard line) and you're in your own end zone. I tried to get the ball out quick and Vernon (Davis) was making an adjustment to see the ball and the ball carried past him. The safety was moving on my eyes and came over and made a play on it."
(on the Packers defense) "They're a really unique defense in the sense that they've shown a lot on film. They've shown a lot of different looks versus different opponents. You put in a game plan that can hopefully take care of all of what they can give you, and we didn't do that in the second half."
