PACKERS-SEAHAWKS POST-GAME NOTES & QUOTES
PACKERS BEAT SEAHAWKS 48-10
- Behind a dominant performance, Green Bay secured the franchise's 25th playoff berth.
- The Packers improve to 10-5 and will be one of the NFC's two Wild Card playoff teams. The win improved the Packers' home mark to 6-2 on the season and also was the team's 19th win in its last 25 regular-season games at Lambeau Field.
- Today's 38 point margin of victory ties for the twelfth largest in team history. The last time the Packers won by 38 points was Oct. 8, 1961 vs. Baltimore (45-7).
- The Packers were paced by five rushing touchdowns, the first time the team has scored five rushing TDs since Oct. 9,1988, when the team had five scores on the ground against New England.
- For the third time this season, the Packers recorded four interceptions. Green Bay also had four against Chicago (Week 1) and at Detroit (Week 12).
- QB Aaron Rodgers became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards in his first two seasons as a starter. With 237 yards on the day, Rodgers now has 4,199 yards on the season.
- The Packers now travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals a week from today, Jan. 3, while Seattle takes on Tennessee at home.
OTHER POST-GAME NOTES:
- Today's paid attendance was 70,429. It was the 285th consecutive sellout (269 regular season, 16 playoffs).
- LB A.J. Hawk recorded his second interception on the season and now has five for his career.
- Hawk's interception led to a scoring drive which culminated in a 13-yard touchdown pass from QB Aaron Rodgers to RB Brandon Jackson. For Jackson, it was his first TD of the season. Jackson also had a six-yard touchdown run and a four-yard touchdown run in the second half, making it his first multi-TD game of his career.
- RB Ryan Grant scored two touchdowns on the ground, extending his career high to 10. He finished the game with 97 yards on 16 carries, which makes him just the third running back in team history to post back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons. Ahman Green (2001-03) and Jim Taylor (1961-62) also accomplished the feat.
- Green also scored a rushing touchdown, his first of the season. It was his 68th career score as a member of the Packers.
- LB Nick Barnett recorded his fourth sack of the season, a new career high.
- DE Johnny Jolly recorded his 10th and 11th pass deflections of the season, a new team record for defensive lineman. DE Cullen Jenkins had the previous team record of nine (2007) in the statistic which began being recorded in 1980.
- WR Greg Jennings went over the 1,000-yard mark on the season for the second consecutive season. With 111 yards on the day, he now has 1,084 yards
- S Atari Bigby had the second multi-interception game of his career. His first came in 2007 at St. Louis (Dec. 16).
- K Mason Crosby connected on a 52-yard field goal in the fourth quater. He is now 8-17 from 50-plus yards on his career.
- CB Jarrett Bush recorded his first career interception in the third quarter.
GREEN BAY PACKERS S ATARI BIGBY:
(on clinching a playoff spot and how important it is to the team) "That's it. Our whole goal is to make it to the Super Bowl and you can't get there unless you make it to the playoffs."
(on the defense making a statement after a tough loss to Pittsburgh) "We felt like we wanted to be in control of our destiny. We really don't want to go out there and wait on another team to win or lose, so we knew we had to go out here and not relax but play with some urgency."
(on if it's more satisfying that the team was 4-4 and turned it around in the second half to make the playoffs) "You know, no matter how we get there, we're just trying to get there. Regardless of how you start, it's about how you finish."
PACKERS KICKER MASON CROSBY:
(on how it felt putting the 52 yarder through the uprights) "Obviously it felt great. In the fourth quarter, obviously we were winning by a bunch there, but it's nice. We did a good job coming in and moving the ball and have chances to score some more points there and definitely close it out. It was good. It felt good, confident. It was just kind of rolling today, it felt really nice."
(on drilling it from a long distance in cold weather) "I had a good week of work, good warm up. Trusted the operation, the protection was great, so they made it easy. I just had to swing through, it felt good. As soon as I hit it, I knew it went through. It's good to have this feeling, we have to definitely have that rolling here now that we clinched the playoff spot. It's very important that that starts clicking right now."
(on clinching a playoff berth with a game remaining on the schedule) "We just fought the second half of the season. You can just see the fight in this team. We still haven't played our best game. It's one of those where we find ways to win but we're still making some mistakes. That's very encouraging in a sense that we're winning games and we still have our best football. I think we're rolling here into the playoffs and we'll see what happens. We'll go down to Arizona (next week) and I think we'll take care of business down there too."
PACKERS RUNNING BACK BRANDON JACKSON:
(on scoring a career high three touchdowns) "It's a blessing. I was telling EB (Edgar Bennett) sometimes you just got to smell the end zone. I'm just blessed to do what I did today. It's all God and I give him all the honor and the glory. Just hard work and it pays off."
(on officially being in the playoffs) "We got win number 10. You know we got close two years ago and right now we're just fighting and we want to go all the way and win the Super Bowl. That's what it's about."
(on having three touchdowns in the final home game after being primarily a third down back all season) "It was a good game and I was just showing that I'm not only a third down back. I can catch, I can run, I can do whatever helps the team. Once again, I just give God all the honor and the praise and I'm just thankful. It was a great game."
PACKERS QUARTERBACK AARON RODGERS:
(on making the playoffs) "It feels great, it really does. I think it's a lot of hard work. The second half of the season we've been really putting it together. Guys are very excited in the locker room. But we realize it's just the beginning for us."
(on being the first quarterback in NFL history with back-to-back 4,000 yard seasons in his first two seasons as a starter) "It means that I've been able to be on the field consistently for 31 straight games and I've been fortunate enough to throw to some very talented guys, and been coached very well."
(on how the team has performed the last seven games) "We had a sense of urgency and minor desperation starting with the Dallas game and got on a roll. I think defensively those guys started believing in each other, believing even more in Dom (Capers) and his strategy, and we've got an MVP candidate on defense. Charles (Woodson) has really taken over games at different points during this run we've been making and offensively I think we've figured some things out as well."
(on the five rushing touchdowns) "When you're laying in bed on Saturday night you're kind of hoping for five passing touchdowns, but it's nice to have some of the burden taken off of you and those guys did a great job. Ryan (Grant) I think has really taken off this second half of the season…all three of our guys bring different things to the table."
(on the team's chances in the playoffs) "Anything can happen. Like Kevin Garnett said, ‘Anything's possible.' We're very excited about the opportunity to get to the second season. We realize in order to get to where we want to go we're going to have to win on the road. But I think you look at coach McCarthy's record, since he's been here we've had a pretty good road record. The guys realize their responsibilities when we go on the road and we like our chances. We like the way we're playing. We're peaking at the right time. We're 6-1 in the second half of the season and excited about the possibilities that await us in that second season."
PACKERS C SCOTT WELLS:
(on clinching a playoff berth and not needing all 16 games after being 4-4) "Well we came close to needing all 16 games. It's a good feeling to go out there and secure a playoff spot, have some momentum. Again, we have to continue to take it week by week, enjoy this one for tonight and get ready for the next game."
(on the running backs scoring five rushing touchdowns) "It took us a little while to get it going. We had a rough first series for sure, came out a little flat. But we were able to get it going there toward the end (of the first half), Ryan (Grant) broke the big one, which was huge. He got into the secondary and was able to outrun everybody, which was big. Brandon Jackson made some excellent cuts today, Ahman (Green) ran hard. I know one run he got 15 or 16 yards out of nothing. He got it himself. It was a total team effort from that standpoint."
(on the Packers offense converting a favorable 8-14 third downs) "Well third downs are huge. That's one thing we've done pretty well the second half of the season. Aaron (Rodgers) does an excellent job converting passes on third downs. I think we execute better on third downs, especially in the second half. It extends drives. It keeps our defense off the field, keeps our offense on the field, extends drives, and gets you closer to field goal range or else in to score a touchdown."
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS HEAD COACH JIM MORA:
(on the loss) "I thought we responded fairly well early, but that is a really good football team and they got up on us in this environment. We struggled to stay up with them. I know that the score doesn't necessarily look like it, but I felt like the guys continued to have a good attitude, fight and play hard on both sides of the football."
(on how Seattle was able to put early pressure on Aaron Rodgers) "Guys were winning is what it was. We got there with a three- and a four-man rush. We continued to mix it up, but they did a better job of protecting as the game went on. I'm sure we shocked them a little bit (with the pressure). They are a team that early in the season gave up a lot of sacks, but of late have done a nice job."
(on if Seattle needs to go in a new direction at the quarterback position) "I am not thinking that way right now. I think that is something you talk about at the end of the season. I am happy with Matt (Hasselbeck). I know that he isn't happy with his performance the last couple of weeks. We will look at his body of work and see where we think he is headed."
SEAHAWKS WIDE RECEIVER DEION BRANCH:
(on Seahawks offense) "We just couldn't finish. We'd drive, drive, drive, then just hit a stone. Our execution was a fail. We had penalties here and there, I had a flag, a couple other guys had a flag and that just kind of kills the drive. We had chances, we just didn't execute."
(on field conditions) "The field was good. This is Lambeau, this is what happens in December and January. This is what you have to expect. We weren't worried about the field."
(on Seahawks defense) "I thought the defense did a great job of going out there and giving us chances to get on the board and we didn't do it."
(on Packers playoff potential) "I think they'll be all right. It's all about matchups and who they're playing. I think coach McCarthy knows what he's doing and they have a solid offense and a pretty good defense, so they'll be good."
SEAHAWKS FULL BACK JUSTIN GRIFFITH:
(on quarterback Matt Hasselbeck) "He's the leader of this football team and it doesn't pay for him to get down. I think he knows how to compete and he will continue to compete the rest of the way."
(on approaching week 17) "One thing we can do is stop the penalties. We need to run the football more and stop turning the ball over. We also need to give (Hasselbeck) more protection and keep people off of him. I know it can rattle the quarterback a little bit when you keep taking shots behind the line of scrimmage. If we do those things then everybody knows Matt Hasselbeck can come back and we can win."
SEAHAWKS QUARTERBACK MATT HASSELBECK:
(on his four interceptions) "I am definitely searching for answers. You have to look at each one individually. I am looking for answers and for ways to improve, things to do and things not to do. Looking at the last two interceptions, there is definitely an element of forcing things. I need to figure it out."
(on if he is comfortable with Seattle's offensive scheme) "It is the first year, but I do feel comfortable. It is a matter of certain plays, where balls have to be there perfectly on time. Sometimes those windows are tight and we just aren't hooking up."
(on if Green Bay could be a dangerous playoff team) "Yes, they are a good football team. We made them look really, really good today. This is a great place to play. I wish them luck."
