Green Bay's Kennedy Elementary School chosen as Play 60 Super School

Posted Oct 31, 2011

A.J. Hawk to visit to celebrate NFL Spirit, dedication to health and fitness Nov. 15

Green Bay’s Kennedy Elementary has been chosen as one of 34 Super Schools by the NFL PLAY 60’s Back to Football campaign, an initiative that encourages schools to demonstrate their Packers spirit while also dedicating time to the health and wellness of today’s youth.

Kennedy’s prizes for their efforts are a $10,000 NFL PLAY 60 grant from the NFL, to put toward health and wellness programming or equipment, and a visit from Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk and his mother, Judy Hawk, Nov. 15. In addition, the NFL will donate all fitness equipment used during the Ultimate Physical Education Class for students to use in the future.

To celebrate the start of the 2011 NFL season, fans were encouraged to demonstrate their passion for their favorite NFL teams and their excitement for the upcoming season by planning a unique Back to Football Friday event for their school, all to support youth health and wellness. Schools that entered the Back to Football Friday contest at www.NFLRUSH.com/BackToFootball submitted photos of their event and answered brief essay questions. Butte des Morts Elementary School in Menasha, Wis., was last season’s winner.

As a supporter of Back to Football Friday, Dick’s Sporting Goods has provided special offers at retail cost for NFL fans who participate in a celebration, as well as a $500 gift certificate to each of the “NFL PLAY 60 Super Schools.”

Designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL PLAY 60 brings together the NFL’s long-standing commitment to health and fitness with partner organizations like United Way. Since the program was launched in 2007, the NFL has committed more than $250 million to youth health and fitness through programming, grants, and media time for PSAs.

Kids and parents can learn more about Back To Football and NFL PLAY 60 at www.NFLRUSH.com/play60.
