Hanson Named High School Coach Of The Week

Posted Sep 23, 2010

Chad Hanson of the Greenwood-Granton cooperative high school football program has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Hanson’s Indians improved to 3-1 last Friday after defeating an undefeated Athens team, 19-14. Last week’s victory places Greenwood-Granton in a tie for second place in the Cloverwood Conference after going winless a year ago. The Indians travel to Newman Catholic this Friday for a matchup against the Fighting Cardinals whom they’ve split victories with the previous two seasons.

“The game against Athens was our homecoming game,” Hanson said. “It was an early-season goal of ours to win that game, and we haven’t done so since 2006. Coming off an 0-9 season, we ultimately want to end each Friday night with one more victory than we had the week before.”

Hanson began his coaching career at Eleva-Strum (Wis.) Middle School in 1998. After three years as a youth football coach, Hanson took an assistant coaching position at Eleva-Strum High School. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2004, and was subsequently offered his current position as head coach of Greenwood-Granton.

Hanson and his staff oversee a program that includes 33 players. He is assisted by Danny Bravener, Mike Lambrecht, Dean Lindner, Rugg Lindner, and Chris Schmitz.

A native of Mondovi, Wis., Hanson attended Eleva-Strum High School where he played football under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Famer Dick Salava. Hanson currently teaches social studies at Greenwood High School.

Hanson and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters, Adeline and Gretta.

The Packers will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 20010 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $1,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on packers.com.

Nominations for Coach of the Week should be submitted by 9 a.m. every Monday to Tim Schroeder, youth football coordinator, at coachoftheweek@packers.com (e-mail) or by fax at (920) 569-7302. Please include the nominee's name, address, school, phone number, and reason he/she is deserving of the award.
