Josh Sitton, Eddie Lacy named second-team All-Pro

Posted Jan 3, 2014

Associated Press honors two Packers -- one who made a position switch, and another who's a rookie

Packers guard Josh Sitton and rookie running back Eddie Lacy were named second-team All-Pro by The Associated Press on Friday.

"I think it’s well-deserved," Head Coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday after the Packers' final practice in preparation for Sunday's wild-card playoff vs. San Francisco. "Very happy, very proud of both. They’ve been staples throughout the year.

"Josh, I felt that he clearly had his best year as a pro. He went to the Pro Bowl last year, and I think he’s clearly one of the best guards in the league. Eddie Lacy, what an impact he’s made for our football team, especially as a rookie."

The honor is a first for the six-year veteran Sitton, who switched this year from right guard to left guard during offseason training and still played at a very high level.

"I guess it's my natural position," Sitton quipped. "At first, I was a little skeptical for a while. It took really a few games into the season to get used to playing over there. We started back in April or May or whatever it as, but it’s definitely worked out, and props to the coaches for making the switch."

Lacy broke a 42-year-old franchise rookie record by rushing for 1,178 yards, topping John Brockington's 1,105 yards in 1971. Lacy's 11 rushing TDs also set a Packers rookie record.

The recognition puts Lacy in good position to potentially win the league's Offensive Rookie of the Year award, which is also voted on by AP.

"I never thought I’d be in something like that, but I’m very excited for the achievement, and I just hope I can keep playing and continue to get better," Lacy said.

As natives of the South -- Sitton is from Florida and played in college at Central Florida, while Lacy is from Louisiana and played at Alabama -- both players were asked what it will be like to play Sunday's playoff game in the sub-zero temperatures that are forecast.

"I've played in a few cold ones, but nothing like this," Sitton said. "Once you get to a certain temperature, it's tough for anybody to get used to it. It's going to definitely challenge our toughness."

Sitton said he hadn't decided for sure whether to wear sleeves under his jersey, but he said he'd definitely be inclined to protect his skin if the temps are at dangerous levels. Lacy said he won't wear sleeves so that he has a better grip on the ball to avoid fumbling, which he hasn't done since his debut in Week 1 at San Francisco.

"I don't think it's anything you can prepare for," Lacy said of the cold. "It's more mind over matter. That's the approach I'm going to take."
