Kyle Van Noy versatile, playmaking linebacker

Posted Feb 22, 2014

Will work out on Monday at scouting combine

INDIANAPOLIS—Kyle Van Noy is just what the Packers need, a playmaking linebacker with the versatility to play inside or out. What team doesn’t need that kind of player?

Van Noy, 6-3, 244, will work out at the scouting combine on Monday, and it’s believed the Packers will be one of the more interested onlookers.

Have the Packers shown interest in you, Van Noy was asked on Saturday?

“Yes, they have,” Van Noy said. When the same question came for another team, Van Noy added, “I shouldn’t be saying. I’ll stop after that one.”

That comment elicited laughter, but it’s no joke that Van Noy would address a hard need for a team drafting in the vicinity of where it’s projected Van Noy will be selected.

“I feel like I can play any position at linebacker in either the 3-4 or 4-3. I moved around a lot,” Van Noy said.

Van Noy exploded onto the draft scene in the final game of his junior season at Brigham Young. Against San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl, Van Noy scored two touchdowns, 1½ sacks, eight tackles, two tackles for loss and a blocked punt. His performance overshadowed that of teammate Ziggy Ansah, the fifth pick of last year’s draft.

“I feel like I’m an offensive player on defense,” Van Noy said. “I feel like anytime you get a sack you try to get the ball out. At the end of the day, it’s all about the ball.

“I just hope to get picked up by someone that wants me to play for them.”
