Marcol's career a dream come true

Posted Apr 27, 2014

Packers.com editor Vic Ketchman sat down with former Packers kicker Chester Marcol who talked being drafted in the 2nd round from a small school to his famous play on September 7, 1980. Marcol spoke about the fear and uncertainty he faced with substance abuse as a player and how the difficult times shaped him into the person he is today.

Marcol, selected in the second round of the 1972 draft, scored 128 points in his rookie year, leading the league in scoring, and was named NFC Rookie of the Year and All-Pro. The two-time NFL scoring champion was, at the time, only one of three players in NFL history to score 300 points or more over his first three seasons. Marcol was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1973 and 1975 and was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1987.
