USA Football, the sport’s national governing body, announced today that Green Bay Packers President and Chief Executive Officer MARK MURPHY has joined the independent nonprofit’s board of directors. USA Football leads the game’s development for youth, high school and other amateur football players. The Indianapolis-based organization with members in 50 states and Washington, D.C., created and administers the education-based player safety program Heads Up Football.

Murphy joins four other recently named board members: Miami Dolphins Executive Vice President DAWN APONTE, Director of Louisiana Youth Football LEROY HOLLINS II, NorthShore University HealthSystems board-certified neurological surgeon DR. GAIL L. ROSSEAU and Cincinnati St. Xavier High School head football coach STEVE SPECHT.

Murphy is in his sixth year as the Packers’ president and CEO. Under his direction, the team has earned four playoff berths, captured two division titles and won Super Bowl XLV. Murphy was a Redskins co-captain from 1980-84, a period that included consecutive Super Bowl appearances (1982-83). In 1983, he led the NFL with nine interceptions and earned consensus All-Pro honors.
