Packers, NFL offer high school players character and skill-development camps this summer

Posted May 23, 2013

Free program open to high school football players; presented by the National Guard

The Green Bay Packers and the National Football League are sponsoring two free football camps in Wisconsin, in Milwaukee (June 13-14) and Green Bay (June 15-16) as part of the NFL’s High School Player Development (HSPD) program presented by the National Guard.

Camps are open to all players entering grades 9-12 for the 2013-14 school year, and will focus on character development and specific football-skills training by position. Participants will develop awareness of some of the necessary skills needed to become a successful collegiate student-athlete.

The Milwaukee camp will be held at Wisconsin Lutheran College (June 13-14) and the Green Bay camp will be held at the Don Hutson Center (June 15-16).

Additionally, 12 players from each camp will be selected to form a team and compete in the Green Bay Packers Regional 7-on-7 Passing Tournament, June 22, at the Don Hutson Center. The tournament winner will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to the NFL’s National 7-on-7 Tournament in Cleveland, as representatives of the Packers. The national tournament will be comprised of 16 NFC teams and 16 AFC teams.

More information on the camps and sign-up forms are available online at https://sites.google.com/site/centralregionhspdcamps/.

Each participant receives an HSPD Student Planner, NCAA initial-eligibility requirements, SAT/ACT informational materials and time-management instruction.

On-field components of the HSPD program include fundamental skill development by position, reviews and individual competitions. As part of the on-field training, players will focus on both an offensive and a defensive position, and eventually apply their newly learned fundamentals to live drills. Participants have access to innovative teaching and drills developed by leading NCAA coaches.

More information on the HSPD program can be found online at www.nflyouthpd.com.
