Packers and NFL donate $35,000 to Manitowoc Lutheran H.S. football program

Posted Nov 5, 2013

Grant will be used to expand current stadium seating

The Green Bay Packers and Manitowoc Lutheran High School announced the details of a $35,000 stadium grant at a school assembly on Tuesday.

The school will use the funds to expand the stadium’s current seating in hopes of hosting a WIAA playoff game in the future. Currently, the stadium does not have enough seating to host a playoff game.

The grant is supported by both the Packers and the NFL Grassroots Program, which provides non-profit, neighborhood-based organizations and middle/high schools with financial and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of football fields in under-served areas of NFL markets.

A partnership between the NFL Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the program makes available matching grants up to $200,000 for capital improvement projects including field surface grants and general field support.

Since 1998, more than $32.5 million in NFL Grassroots field grants has been awarded for 256 projects in more than 70 cities nationwide. Grants are announced and awarded annually in the spring.

"We're excited about the opportunity to help Manitowoc Lutheran High School improve their current stadium," said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. "The expanded seating that the grant is helping fund will provide a great venue for the community to gather and watch high school sports."
