Packers sign DE Julius Peppers

Posted Mar 15, 2014

The Green Bay Packers have signed DE Julius Peppers. The signing was announced Saturday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Peppers, a 6-foot-7, 287-pound 13th-year player out of the University of North Carolina, played for the Chicago Bears for the past four seasons (2010-13) after spending his first eight seasons (2002-09) with the Carolina Panthers. He has played in 186 games with 184 starts during his career, appearing in all 16 games in 10 of his 12 seasons in the league. Peppers was drafted by Carolina in the first round in 2002 with the No. 2 overall selection.

Since entering the league in ’02, Peppers ranks No. 2 in the NFL in sacks (118.5) and No. 5 in forced fumbles (39) and leads all defensive linemen with nine interceptions over that span. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl eight times during his career (2004-06, 2008-12) and has been named first-team All-Pro three times (2004, 2006, 2010). Peppers was selected to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s and was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year by The Associated Press in 2002.
