Pete McAdams, of Stevens Point High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

McAdams, a social studies teacher at Stevens Point, is in his seventh season as head coach of the Panthers. The defending Wisconsin Valley Conference champions have gotten off to a 2-0 start in 2006 and are currently ranked No. 4 in the AP Division 1 poll. The Panthers will host conference foe Wausau West Friday.

"It's a great honor to be recognized by the Green Bay Packers," McAdams said. "There are a lot of great coaches in Wisconsin, and to be chosen as 'Coach of the Week' is quite an honor as well. It says a lot about our program and most importantly the assistant coaches that I have here."

Assisted by John Haka, Chris Haka, Mark Ehr, Kevin Deates, Josh Wood, Rich Riggs, Levi Massey, Bill Blake, Rod Koldziej, Ross Adamczak and Kyle Rogness, McAdams and his staff oversee a varsity team of 70 players with more than 180 players in the Stevens Point program.

McAdams was coached by John Miech at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Gary Vicini at Hall High School in Spring Valley, Ill.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at UW-Stevens Point in 1992. He also coached in the European Football League from 1992-95 during the spring and summer. In 2000, he was named head coach at Stevens Point High School. McAdams has already won 42 games in his career at Stevens Point.

The Packers will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2006 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $1,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on www.NFLHS.com, the NFL's high school football Web site.

Nominations for Coach of the Week should be submitted by 9 a.m. every Monday to Cathy A. Dworak, manager of community relations, at coachoftheweek@packers.com (e-mail) or by fax at (920) 569-7302.
