Rob Salm Of Appleton North High School Named Green Bay Packers High School Coach Of The Week

Posted Sep 9, 2009

Rob Salm, of Appleton North High School, has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Through the first two games of the 2009 season, Salm’s Lightning team has stormed out to a 2-0 record, handing Kimberly its first conference loss in nearly four years and halting the Papermakers’ 29-game win streak. The 12-6 win over Kimberly has Appleton North in first place atop the Fox Valley Association Conference.

“This was the biggest game that we had circled on our schedule,” Salm said. “It turned out to be a great high school football game and I had a lot of fun being a part of it.”

Last Friday night’s contest was just the second game of Salm’s head-coaching career. Prior to his 2009 promotion, he served as an assistant on the Appleton North staff dating back to 1995, when he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

His assistant coaching staff includes Mike Baumann, Matt Berlowski, Bill Busch, Chris Feavel, Matt Hechel, David Meixl, Steve Meixl, Matt Moscinski, Jeremy Reider, Bob Salm, Curt Salm, Nick Salm, Jason Schwan, Andy Shadick, Ross Van Handel and Fue Xiong.

A native of Appleton, Salm played football at Appleton West High School under WFCA Hall of Fame coach, Paul Engen. Salm and Engen were reunited in 1995 when Engen gave Salm his first coaching job at Appleton North, a post he has held for the last 14 years.

Salm and his wife, Nicole, have two daughters, Brianna and Abigal, and a son, Bobby.

The Packers will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2009 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $1,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on packers.com.

Nominations for Coach of the Week should be submitted by 9 a.m. every Monday to Tim Schroeder, community outreach coordinator, at coachoftheweek@packers.com (e-mail) or by fax at (920) 569-7302. Please include the nominee's name, address, school, phone number, and reason he/she is deserving of the award.
